You can schedule a YouTube stream in YouTube Studio, but scheduling an event is not the same as keeping a channel live around the clock. Use Live Control Room’s Manage tab to create the upcoming event, publish its date and time with an explicit time zone, and separately arrange for an encoder or streaming service to send the video continuously. YouTube’s documented scheduling guidance does not establish how scheduled times are converted for viewers or confirm a native recurring schedule, so verify the time shown in Studio and make the time zone clear in your event details.
What scheduling does—and does not—do
Scheduling creates an upcoming live event that you can promote. Viewers may see it as upcoming, share it, and use a reminder option such as Notify me. The scheduled event is only one part of the operation: an encoder or streaming system still has to send the video, and the stream must be started in Live Control Room.
For a 24/7 channel, treat these as separate jobs: tell viewers when an event begins, keep a video source and streaming system running, and plan how to respond if the feed or connection fails. The documented YouTube workflow covers scheduling and starting an encoder stream; it does not establish a built-in repeating schedule or guarantee uninterrupted broadcasting.
How to schedule a YouTube live stream
- Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, select Go Live, then open the Manage tab.
- Create the scheduled stream. Select Schedule Stream. Reuse settings from a previous stream or create a new one, then review the title, description, privacy, and other event settings.
- Make the time unambiguous. Include the date and a named time zone in the event description and in any promotion. If your audience is concentrated in several regions, give the corresponding local times there as well.
- Check the event in Studio before sharing it. The YouTube Help instructions describe setting a time but do not explain whether Studio shows the creator’s local time, stores a time in UTC, or converts it for viewers. Verify the displayed date and time in your own interface before publishing the event.
- Share the upcoming event URL. Scheduling can make the stream visible as upcoming, so viewers can find it and, where available, request a reminder.
- Connect and start the encoder at the event time. Enter YouTube’s stream URL and stream key in the encoder, start sending the feed, wait for the Live Control Room preview, and select Go live.
YouTube’s settings include encoder auto-start and auto-stop controls. Treat these as controls for a stream, not proof of a recurring schedule or a promise that a 24/7 broadcast will stay online.

How to publish times for viewers in multiple time zones
Name the time zone, not just the clock time
A listing such as “8:00 PM” is incomplete for an international audience. Publish the date, clock time, and named time zone together—for example, “October 12 at 8:00 PM Eastern Time”—and add conversions for the regions that matter to your viewers. Do not assume that the event will automatically display in every viewer’s local time; the cited YouTube instructions do not specify its time-zone display or conversion behavior.
Recheck recurring announcements after clock changes
If you promote the same start time regularly, review the event and your public schedule after daylight-saving changes. A region may move its clocks while another does not. This is a general scheduling precaution, not a YouTube conversion feature.

Do not mistake settings reuse for recurrence
You can reuse settings from a previous stream when creating another scheduled event. That is not the same as a confirmed recurring-event scheduler. YouTube’s documented pages explain scheduling a stream for later but do not establish a native repeating schedule. If you create separate events, verify each event’s date and time before sharing it.
What a real 24/7 setup needs
A scheduled event cannot keep a broadcast alive by itself. For a continuous channel, identify who or what supplies the video, runs the encoder, maintains power and network access, detects a failed feed, and restores it. Build in monitoring and a response plan rather than treating one successful scheduled start as proof that the stream will remain live.

- Continuous source: Make sure the video or playlist is available for the full intended run.
- Streaming system and connection: A connected encoder must send the feed. Account for power, network interruptions, and what happens when either returns.
- Monitoring and recovery: Decide how you will notice a stopped or degraded stream and who will act. Test failover and recovery before relying on them.
- Rights and channel suitability: Use video, music, images, and other material you have the rights to stream. A license to use material does not by itself establish that a channel meets YouTube’s other monetization or reused-content requirements; assess those separately and check the current rules that apply to your channel.
- Recording and replay: Keep a separate recording plan if you need an archive or replay from a long-running stream.
Prepare and test before the scheduled start
YouTube’s encoder tips recommend setting up at least 2 hours ahead, starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start, checking the preview, testing encoder failover, and verifying access to the stream. These are preparation recommendations for an event, not a guarantee of 24/7 uptime.
- Confirm that the stream key and stream URL are entered in the intended encoder and that the correct event is selected.
- Start the encoder early enough to check that video reaches Live Control Room.
- Inspect the preview and verify the stream is accessible as intended before the scheduled start.
- Test the failover path and the recovery steps your operator will use if the encoder or connection stops.
- At the scheduled event, use the Live Control Room preview and select Go live when ready.
Archives for long-running streams
YouTube’s encoder guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. It does not make the same archive promise for streams longer than 12 hours. If your 24/7 broadcast needs a replay, preserve a separate recording and plan how you will publish or manage it; do not rely on an archive outcome that YouTube’s cited guidance does not establish.

Troubleshooting scheduling and continuity
The event appears at the wrong time
Likely issue: The time zone or date was assumed rather than verified. Fix: Check the displayed event time in Studio, then update the event description and promotions to state a named time zone and relevant regional conversions.
The scheduled event exists, but no video appears
Likely issue: Scheduling did not start the encoder, or the encoder is not sending to the intended stream. Fix: Check the stream URL and key, start the encoder, wait for the Live Control Room preview, and select Go live when the feed is ready.

The stream starts but later stops
Likely issue: The source, encoder, power, or network has failed. Fix: Check which part stopped sending, restore it, and test the failover and recovery process. A scheduled event alone does not provide continuous operation.
The stream runs longer than expected, but no replay is available
Likely issue: The broadcast exceeded the duration for which the cited YouTube guidance says automatic archiving applies. Fix: Keep an independent recording when a replay matters and arrange its publication separately.
Or let it run in the cloud
