A cloud VM can look inexpensive if you compare only its compute charge, but a refurbished desktop’s total cost depends on its purchase price, power draw and local electricity rate. First decide whether you mean repeating a video for viewing or broadcasting prerecorded video as a continuous YouTube Live stream: those are different jobs, with different costs.
First, clarify what “looping YouTube videos” means
Repeat a video while watching
You do not need a VM or a dedicated computer just to repeat a video in YouTube’s player. On a computer, right-click the video and choose Loop. You can also loop a playlist. YouTube’s instructions are at Loop videos or playlists on YouTube.
Keep a remote browser playing
A VM can host a browser for remote playback, but that is not the same as using YouTube’s repeat control on a device you already have. The VM needs a suitable operating system and browser, and a very small instance may not provide desktop-equivalent performance. No reliability or browser-performance comparison establishes how well a particular VM will handle continuous playback.
Broadcast prerecorded material as YouTube Live
A continuous live broadcast of uploaded videos is a production workflow, not a YouTube player loop. It may involve a computer running streaming software or a cloud playout service. Compare these options only if your goal is to keep a live broadcast running; their costs and requirements do not answer the cost of ordinary viewing.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
What the cloud VM price example actually tells you
Google Cloud lists an on-demand e2-micro compute rate of $0.008376428 per hour in its general-purpose VM pricing table, accessed in 2026. At an illustrative 730 hours of runtime, that works out to about $6.11 for compute alone. This is a calculation from the hourly rate, not a quoted monthly bill or a universal regional price. Check the Google Cloud general-purpose VM prices for the relevant region and pricing model.
The e2-micro is a constrained shared-core machine, not an established equivalent to a refurbished desktop running a browser continuously. Google documents it with 2 guest-visible vCPUs, 1 GiB of memory and 0.25 fractional vCPU capacity; shared-core machines time-share physical CPU resources. See Google Cloud machine family specifications.

Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Compute is only one possible VM charge. Persistent disk is billed separately, and networking and storage can affect the total. Consult Google Cloud VM pricing and its calculator for a specific deployment. The $6.11 illustration should not be treated as an all-in cost.
How to compare the desktop and VM fairly
Choose the same task and comparison period for both options. For example, do not compare a desktop used for 24/7 playback with a VM billed only for a few hours a day, or compare player looping with live broadcasting.

| Cost or requirement | Refurbished desktop | Cloud VM |
|---|---|---|
| Upfront cost | Purchase price; the price of a suitable refurbished desktop is not established here. | No desktop purchase, but compute is billed for the VM’s runtime. |
| Ongoing energy or compute | Measure average power draw in watts, then multiply by runtime and your electricity tariff. | Use the chosen machine type, region and hours; the e2-micro reference is $0.008376428 per hour for on-demand compute, as listed by Google Cloud in 2026. |
| Other charges | Account for maintenance and any other costs relevant to the machine. | Disk, networking and applicable software or licensing can add charges; check the specific deployment. |
| Practical fit | Requires a physical computer to remain available; account for monitor use if it will stay on. | Requires a suitable VM configuration. The e2-micro is a small shared-core reference, not a proven desktop replacement for browser playback. |
For a continuously powered desktop, estimate energy cost over the chosen period as:
average watts × hours ÷ 1000 = kilowatt-hours
Then multiply the kilowatt-hours by your local price per kWh. Add that energy cost to the desktop’s purchase price and any maintenance. To estimate a VM, add compute, disk, network and applicable software costs over the same period. The purchase cost should be considered over your chosen ownership period, rather than compared with one month of VM compute as though the time horizons matched.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
A break-even result needs a real desktop quote and measured or documented power draw, your local electricity tariff, the VM size and region, expected runtime, and disk and network use. Without those inputs, neither option can be declared universally cheaper.

- For watching a video or playlist repeatedly: use YouTube’s built-in loop control on a device you already have. A VM adds cost and setup without being necessary for the loop itself.
- For remote browser playback: compare a desktop you already own with a VM sized for the operating system and browser workload. Do not assume the lowest-cost shared-core VM will perform like a desktop.
- For a continuous YouTube Live broadcast of uploaded videos: compare a do-it-yourself computer setup with a cloud playout service. This is not the same as repeating content in the YouTube player.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a continuous YouTube Live stream of uploaded videos, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live.
