Put a clear commission disclosure at the very top of your YouTube description, before the affiliate links. If you endorse a product during a 24/7 livestream, the description alone is not enough: disclose the relationship in the stream itself and repeat the disclosure periodically so viewers who join later can see it. A persistent, readable on-screen notice can help keep the disclosure visible.
What to write in the description
Use plain language that tells viewers what you may earn. “Affiliate link” on its own may not make the financial relationship clear. The FTC gives “I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post” as an example of direct wording in its Endorsement Guides FAQ.
You could write:
Disclosure: I may earn a commission if you buy through links in this description.
[Affiliate links]
Only add “The price you pay is not affected by my commission” if that is true of your actual affiliate arrangement. The example is not mandatory wording; the point is to explain the commission connection accurately and plainly.

Where to place the notice
Put the disclosure at the beginning of the description, before the links and any long list of other information. Keep it close to the links and to any recommendation those links support. Do not bury it below a long description or behind “show more.” FTC guidance cautions that viewers may miss disclosures that require clicking “MORE,” and recommends a description disclosure before viewers click through.
Why the description is not enough for a 24/7 stream
A description may reach someone who opens it, but viewers can watch the livestream without reading it. If the stream itself includes an endorsement tied to an affiliate relationship, the FTC recommends disclosing that relationship in the video as well as near the links in the description. For livestreams, the FTC says the disclosure should be repeated periodically so people who see only part of the stream receive it. It does not prescribe a specific interval.

Use an on-stream disclosure
For an always-on stream, a persistent on-screen notice is a practical way to keep the relationship visible to people who arrive at different times. The FTC says creators may use a continuous, clear and conspicuous disclosure throughout a stream as a cautious approach. Make the text readable against the video and place it where it does not disappear behind player controls or other graphics.
Repeat disclosures if you use timed messages
If the notice appears only at intervals, repeat it periodically rather than showing it only at the start. There is no FTC-mandated number of minutes between notices in the cited guidance, so do not treat an invented schedule as a legal safe harbor. Ensure the message remains clear when the stream is viewed on different screen sizes.

Affiliate links versus sponsorships
An affiliate commission and a brand-paid placement are related commercial disclosures, but they are not identical. For an affiliate link, say plainly that you may earn a commission when a viewer buys through it. If a brand pays you, provides a product, or otherwise gives something of value in exchange for content, YouTube’s branded-content rules may also apply.
YouTube says creators must declare applicable branded content using the control in Studio. Its Branded Content Policies say a label will display on the video, while the creator remains responsible for a clear and prominent disclosure and applicable legal obligations. The separate paid-promotion control guidance describes a label at the beginning of the video. Treat that platform declaration as one layer: it does not replace clear wording next to affiliate links or any additional disclosure required by the FTC or rules that apply to you.

Check whether viewers can click the links
Disclosure and link clickability are separate issues. YouTube’s external-link help says URLs in long-form video descriptions and YouTube Live chat are clickable for horizontal live streams, subject to advanced-feature access for clickable external links. In the mobile app’s vertical live feed, links in live chat and the channel description are not clickable. Do not rely on a link being clickable in every viewing mode, and keep the disclosure visible even when viewers cannot click through.

- Write a direct notice. State that you may earn a commission from purchases made through the links.
- Place it first. Put it at the start of the description, before affiliate links and related recommendations.
- Disclose in the stream. If an endorsement tied to the affiliate relationship appears in the livestream, make the relationship clear in the video itself.
- Reach late arrivals. Repeat the disclosure periodically or use a continuous, clear on-screen notice; the FTC guidance does not specify a numeric interval.
- Declare branded content in Studio when applicable. Use YouTube’s paid-promotion control for branded content covered by its policy, without treating the label as your only disclosure.
- Check the viewing mode. Confirm that the description or chat link is accessible to your intended viewers, and do not confuse link availability with disclosure.
- Check local requirements. The FTC sources describe U.S. guidance. YouTube notes that legal requirements can vary by region, so determine which rules apply to your channel, audience, and arrangement.
