Amazon CloudFront pricing for video streaming: what to expect depends first on which of AWS’s two billing models you choose. Pay-as-you-go charges vary with traffic and configuration; flat-rate plans charge a published monthly price per distribution and include stated request and data-transfer allowances. Neither model produces a universal cost per viewing minute: estimate your workload, account for viewer geography and requests, and verify current rates on AWS’s CloudFront pricing page.
How much does CloudFront cost for video streaming?
AWS lists four standard flat-rate CloudFront plans, priced per distribution. The figures below are AWS’s published prices and baseline monthly allowances checked on October 3, 2026; plans and prices can change, so confirm them on the live pricing page before budgeting.
| Plan | Monthly price per distribution | Monthly data transfer allowance | Monthly request allowance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 100 GB | 1 million |
| Pro | $15 | 50 TB | 10 million |
| Business | $200 | 50 TB | 125 million |
| Premium | $1,000 | 50 TB by default | 500 million by default |
These are CloudFront plan prices, not the complete cost of running a video service. AWS’s flat-rate plans include CloudFront and selected supporting services, but included features vary by tier. A plan applies to one distribution and up to one apex or root domain. Check AWS’s plan details for the features and terms attached to the tier you are considering.
Premium configurable capacity
AWS lists higher monthly Premium capacity options. The published figures below pair data-transfer and request allowances with the monthly price:

| 125 TB | 1.25 billion | $2,250 |
| 200 TB | 2 billion | $3,500 |
| 350 TB | 3.5 billion | $6,000 |
| 600 TB | 6 billion | $10,000 |
These are AWS’s listed configurable levels as checked October 3, 2026; verify availability and current pricing on the AWS pricing page.
Is CloudFront pricing fixed or based on traffic?
Both. With pay-as-you-go billing, charges vary with use and the configuration and features selected. With a flat-rate plan, the monthly price is fixed per distribution and the plan publishes request and data-transfer allowances. AWS says flat-rate plans have no overage charges, but the allowances are not hard limits and do not guarantee unchanged delivery at any traffic level.

AWS sends allowance notifications at 50%, 80% and 100%. In a March 24, 2026 update, AWS said it accommodates a first monthly spike up to three times an allowance in that month. It assesses excess over multiple months; significant, prolonged excess may lead to delivery adjustments. The CloudFront Developer Guide describes possible adjustments such as serving from fewer or more distant edge locations or changing performance. Treat a sustained excess as a capacity and plan-review issue, not as a promise that service will remain identical without limit. See AWS’s March 24, 2026 plan update and flat-rate plan documentation.
What a CloudFront plan includes—and costs that can remain
AWS describes flat-rate plans as bundling CloudFront with selected AWS services, which may include WAF and DDoS protection, Route 53 DNS, CloudWatch Logs ingestion, TLS certificates, serverless edge compute and S3 storage credits. The exact bundle depends on the tier; consult AWS’s plan documentation rather than assuming every feature is included.

- 4K picture quality: With Roku Streaming Stick Plus, watch your favorites with brilliant 4K picture and vivid HDR color.
- Compact without compromises: Our sleek design won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, and it even powers from your TV alone, plugging into the back and staying out of sight. No wall outlet, no extra cords, no clutter.
- No more juggling remotes: Power up your TV, adjust the volume, and control your Roku device with one remote. Use your voice to quickly search, play entertainment, and more.
- Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.
- Transfer from AWS origins such as S3, Application Load Balancer or API Gateway to CloudFront is covered or waived under the plan.
- S3 storage itself may still cost extra, as may some log storage, query or delivery options, additional metrics and Lambda@Edge invocations.
- The broader video platform may also incur encoding, packaging, storage, application-service and other costs outside CloudFront.
For pay-as-you-go pricing, likewise check the selected services and configuration: the CDN delivery line item is not automatically the total bill for a streaming workflow.
Estimate the traffic before choosing a billing model
For a pay-as-you-go estimate, collect the inputs that drive delivery and feature costs, then enter them into AWS’s current pricing page or calculator. For a flat-rate plan, compare both the data-transfer and request allowances with expected usage, and verify that the tier covers the features you need.

Inputs to gather
- Monthly viewer data transfer in GB or TB.
- Monthly request volume.
- Viewer geography, since delivery rates depend on where viewers are served.
- Cache behavior and distribution configuration.
- Features or supporting AWS services you will use, including any that are not included in the selected flat-rate tier.
- For video delivery estimates, average delivered bitrate and expected viewer hours.
Estimate video data volume
A rough estimate of monthly delivered decimal gigabytes is:
average delivered bitrate (bits/second) Ă— viewer hours Ă— 3,600 Ă· 8 Ă· 1,000,000,000

This is a workload estimate, not an AWS quote or guaranteed billing calculator. It excludes protocol and container overhead and does not account for delivery or caching effects. Use it to estimate traffic volume, then apply current AWS pricing inputs for the relevant regions, requests, configuration and features. The available published pricing information does not establish a universal CloudFront cost per video-viewing minute.

When CloudFront is not the whole answer for a 24/7 YouTube channel
CloudFront is a content delivery network; its pricing alone does not describe a managed service that keeps a YouTube channel live around the clock from uploaded videos. If that is the specific goal, StreamNeo is a separate option: it runs uploaded videos and playlists from the cloud, with any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and the first day free.
Or let it run in the cloud
- Upload a recording or build a playlist.
- Add your YouTube stream key once.
- Go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded content from the cloud.
Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Every slot supports the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one price, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required. Monthly: $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for YouTube streams from uploaded videos, not camera broadcasts. Start at StreamNeo’s free trial.
