Start by checking the playlist timeline, not YouTube’s bitrate. FFmpeg’s concat demuxer uses each file’s reported duration to place the next one; inaccurate durations, mismatched stream formats, or audio and video ending at different times can cause gaps or other boundary artifacts. Compare the local output with YouTube playback, then fix the media timeline before investigating encoder or network problems.
Find out whether the gap is in the playlist or the YouTube feed
Compare the FFmpeg output locally with a recording or playback of the YouTube stream. If the silence or visual stall is already in the local output, focus on file boundaries, timestamps, and stream durations. If local output is continuous but YouTube shows delivery trouble, inspect the encoder and network path instead.
These are separate failure layers: a healthy YouTube ingest does not prove the playlist is gapless, and more upload bandwidth will not repair a broken media timeline.
Check file durations and audio/video endpoints
The concat demuxer advances timestamps for each next file according to the preceding file’s duration. FFmpeg warns: “The duration of each file is used to adjust the timestamps of the next file: if the duration is incorrect (because it was computed using the bit-rate or because the file is truncated, for example), it can cause artifacts.” FFmpeg concat demuxer documentation.

- [XLR Mic Input] One XLR microphone input interface is set on the gaming audio mixer, which is great to up your audio quality with your XLR setup. The XLR mixer is a stepping stone to upgrade your live streaming. Audio mixer offered built-in 48V phantom power which opens up more choices for mics. Directly use it with your condenser microphone but do not solve added peripherals. (NOT available for USB mic)
- [Individual Channel Control] Gaming audio mixer for one mic recording with smooth volume slider fader take your streaming recording to a whole new level with full pleasure. Four independent channels set on the DJ mixer give audio volume of the MICROPHONE, LINE IN, HEADPHONE, and LINE OUT channels individual control. Configurable on the PC audio mixer instead of just operating on your game or streaming software.
- [Mute and Monitor] The front mute and monitor buttons but not at the back, make it easier to get the audio interface use. Ability to mute audio, the audio mixer for streaming prevents background noise from damaging your live broadcast. Real-time feedback between speaking and hearing will not distract your attention, which encourage you to speak more confidently. The sturdy-built control button allow you to operate freely and easily during live streaming.
- [Sound Effects] The computer sound mixer supports four pre-recorded customized button that can be recorded and activated at the press of button to post production. 6 kinds of voice changing modes change your output style. 12 auto tune changes the tone of your voice. The podcast mixer being able to add different and fun effects is a huge bonus for your streaming or game voice.
- [Controllable Vibrant RGB] RGB button on the audio mixer DJ meets different live streaming themes. Lights on the video mixer is vibrant but not harsh on your eyes. Flowing or frozen RGB color rotation in a decent pace presents a greatly strong impression as a "light show" to your audience. Even a streaming equipment accessory will not be dull looking when video production.
- Inspect each playlist item’s container duration and the duration or end timestamp of its audio and video streams.
- Look for truncated files, unusual metadata-derived durations, or audio and video tracks that end at different times.
- If a file’s true duration is known more accurately than its stored value, you can use the concat script’s
durationdirective to override it. Use a reliable value; a guessed override can shift all later files and worsen the gap. - If audio and video genuinely have different lengths, fix that mismatch during media preparation instead of forcing a duration that conceals it.
Duration adjustment is global across streams, so audio and video that do not end together can produce gaps even when the next file’s start appears correctly calculated.
Choose a concatenation method that fits the files
Stream-copy-style concatenation is not automatically gapless. The concat demuxer expects the files to have the same streams, codecs, and time bases. When playlist items differ, normalize them to a consistent format or use a workflow that re-encodes.

- Analog mixing and equalization for pure sound
- Direct mixing of PC/gaming sounds into the streaming output
- Ultra-low noise analog mixer for streaming, podcasting and recording
- Stereo USB audio interface to connect your computer or mobile device
| Method | Use it when | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Concat demuxer | Files have matching streams, codecs, and time bases, and stream-copy-style concatenation suits the job. | It relies on file durations to advance timestamps; bad duration data or streams ending at different times can create artifacts. FFmpeg documentation. |
| Concat filter | You need a re-encoding workflow or want to make inputs consistent as part of concatenation. | Requires filtering and encoding rather than relying on the demuxer’s timestamp stitching. FFmpeg FAQ. |
| Normalize before concatenating | Playlist assets vary in stream layout, codec, or time base. | Adds a preparation or transcoding step; check the resulting boundaries afterward. FFmpeg documentation and FFmpeg FAQ. |
There is no single universal command that fixes every playlist: choose based on stream compatibility, whether re-encoding is acceptable, duration accuracy, and the ability to validate audio and video boundaries.
Validate YouTube’s encoder and network settings
Once the local media timeline is sound, check the live ingest configuration against YouTube’s current encoder recommendations. YouTube lists RTMP or RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), supported live video codecs, and AAC or MP3 audio. Its bitrate guidance varies by codec, resolution, and frame rate, so use the table for your actual output rather than applying a bitrate from another configuration.

Troubleshoot common gap symptoms
| Symptom | Likely area to check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| The same silence or stall appears in the local output and on YouTube. | Playlist boundary, timestamps, file durations, or stream endings. | Probe the files and compare container durations with the audio and video endpoints; correct reliable duration errors or prepare the files consistently. |
| Local output is continuous, but the YouTube stream has delivery or quality warnings. | Encoder configuration or network path. | Check the current YouTube ingest recommendations, upload headroom, Live Control Room preview, and stream health. |
| Only some transitions fail in a playlist of mixed media. | Input compatibility or duration metadata on those specific files. | Compare their streams, codecs, time bases, and endpoints with working items; normalize or use a re-encoding workflow if needed. |
| Adding loop or timestamp flags does not remove the transition gap. | The underlying per-file duration or compatibility problem may remain. | Diagnose the boundary itself. -stream_loop -1, -re, and arbitrary timestamp flags do not correct inaccurate per-file durations or make incompatible streams compatible. |
An exact diagnosis for a particular stream depends on its FFmpeg version and build, full command, concat playlist, probe output for each file, and relevant log excerpt.

For a 24/7 YouTube stream made from uploaded music videos, StreamNeo runs the playlist from the cloud so nothing has to stay on at home. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. Files stream as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; there are no quality tiers or re-encoding. The first day is free with no card. Monthly service is $9.99 per month. Cloud hosting avoids keeping a local computer running, but it does not fix gaps already present in the media timeline. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
