If YouTube says your phone number has already verified the maximum number of channels, use a different eligible phone number. YouTube’s stated limit is no more than two channels per phone number per year, and its help guidance does not document an immediate reset or an exception for verifying another channel with that same number. If the number has not reached the limit and the code is missing, treat it as a delivery problem instead: wait a few minutes, then try the voice-call option if it is available.
First identify which problem YouTube is reporting
A number-limit error and a missing verification code have different remedies. YouTube says it limits the number of channels associated with each phone number to help prevent abuse.

YouTube Help states: “If you’ve already verified 2 channels with 1 phone number, you must verify a different phone number.” It does not establish a universal wait time for the yearly limit to reset, so repeatedly retrying the same number is not a documented fix.
Verify the channel with a different number
- Sign in to the correct Google account. Make sure you are working on the channel you intend to verify.
- Open the verification control. On desktop, go to YouTube Studio → Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility → Intermediate features → Verify phone number. On mobile, YouTube directs creators to m.youtube.com/verify.
- Enter a different eligible phone number. If YouTube has shown the maximum-number error for your current number, use another number rather than trying to bypass the limit.
- Choose a delivery method. Select text message or voice call, depending on the options shown for your account and region.
- Enter the six-digit code. Follow the on-screen confirmation. Only a channel owner can verify a non-Brand Account channel; for a Brand Account, its owner or a manager can verify.
- Check the resulting status. In YouTube Studio, return to Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility and confirm the channel’s current access.
What phone verification unlocks—and what it does not
Phone verification unlocks YouTube’s intermediate features, including custom thumbnails, live streaming, uploads longer than 15 minutes, and copyright-claim appeals. It is also the first step toward advanced features, but completing it does not itself guarantee every feature or advanced access.

For advanced features, eligible creators may build sufficient channel history or use ID or video verification if YouTube offers those options for the account. YouTube says ID and video verification are not available to all creators. Many active channels may already have enough history; eligibility depends on channel activity and Google Account history, and policy violations can delay or remove access. Feature-specific requirements may apply separately, so check the channel’s Feature eligibility page rather than assuming phone verification enables everything.
Troubleshoot a code that does not arrive
The SMS is delayed
- Wait a few minutes before requesting another code.
- If YouTube offers it, try the voice-call option instead of SMS.
Neither text nor call arrives
- Check that the number, including its country/region selection, is entered correctly.
- Some carriers or regions may not support Google’s text or voice messages. Try a different supported carrier or number if delivery remains unavailable.
- If YouTube reports the number cap, changing from text to voice will not remove that cap; use a different number.
Verification succeeds but the feature is still unavailable
- Recheck YouTube Studio → Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility for the channel-specific status and any remaining requirements.
- For advanced access, follow the channel-history or ID/video option actually shown to your account; ID/video verification is not universally offered.
- Look for channel notices or restrictions that could affect eligibility. The official guidance does not specify one universal reset or processing time for every account.
Why common workarounds are not a good fix
YouTube’s documented remedy for a number-limit error is a different phone number. Its help guidance does not recommend virtual or rented SMS numbers, public SMS inboxes, changing devices, clearing cookies, or repeatedly retrying as ways to bypass the limit. Those approaches are not established fixes and may not provide a number YouTube will accept or a code you can reliably receive.

A prepaid SIM that gives you a different mobile number is one possible route, but YouTube does not endorse a particular SIM product or guarantee a newly acquired number is eligible, unused for this purpose, or able to receive Google verification messages. Confirm the number and carrier work for you before relying on it.
