YouTube lists creating a livestream among the features turned off for supervised kid accounts. A supervised teen account is different: YouTube describes teens as having access to YouTube except age-restricted content, but its help pages do not explicitly say whether teen supervision changes livestream-hosting eligibility. In either case, YouTube’s general rules require creators to be at least 16, use a verified channel, and have no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days.
Does the answer depend on the kind of supervised account?
Supervised kid account: hosting is turned off
YouTube’s supervised kid account guidance lists creating a livestream among the features turned off. If your child uses a supervised kid account, they cannot host a YouTube livestream from that account.
Supervised teen account: the specific interaction is not stated
YouTube treats supervised teen accounts separately from supervised kid accounts. Its family account comparison says teens can access YouTube except age-restricted content. The reviewed guidance does not specifically confirm whether teen supervision adds a restriction on livestream creation. Do not assume the kid-account restriction automatically applies to a supervised teen account; check the channel’s eligibility and YouTube’s current guidance.
Watching a livestream is different from hosting one
A supervised kid account may be able to watch livestreams depending on its content setting. YouTube says livestream videos are turned off for the Older kids setting; the Teen and Older teen settings allow livestream viewing. This viewing distinction does not change the rule that supervised kid accounts cannot create livestreams.

General YouTube livestream eligibility
Separate from account supervision, YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance states that a creator must meet all of these conditions:
- Be at least 16 years old.
- Use a verified YouTube channel.
- Have no live-streaming restriction on the channel in the previous 90 days.
Meeting these general conditions does not override the restriction on supervised kid accounts. Restrictions can also arise from policy enforcement or other channel eligibility issues.

What if someone under 16 appears on an adult’s livestream?
YouTube’s guidance on avoiding live-streaming restrictions says an under-16 participant on an adult-owned stream must be visibly accompanied by the adult. The adult should be an active co-creator using the described channel-delegate process. YouTube warns that a stream featuring 13- to 15-year-olds who are not visibly accompanied by an adult may have live chat disabled, and the account may lose access to features. Streams that do not meet the minimum age requirement may be taken down.
What to check before trying to go live
- Identify the account type. Confirm whether it is a supervised kid account or a supervised teen account; the hosting restriction is explicit for supervised kid accounts.
- Check the creator’s age. YouTube’s general minimum age for livestreaming is 16.
- Check channel eligibility. The channel must be verified and free of a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days.
- For a supervised teen account, verify the current status. YouTube’s public guidance reviewed here does not resolve whether teen supervision itself affects livestream creation. Do not treat the broader teen access description as confirmation that every supervised teen channel can go live.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the creator is eligible to livestream and wants a prerecorded YouTube stream to keep running, StreamNeo can loop uploaded videos from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add the YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; video streams as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card.
