That setup can keep the encoder away from your home computer, but it does not guarantee uninterrupted uptime: the VPS, network route, Windows restarts, OBS, YouTube and music rights all remain potential failure points.
Before you rent a VPS, check whether the channel can go live
YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance says a channel must be verified and have had no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. It also states that a person must be at least 16 to live stream. A VPS does not bypass a channel restriction; check eligibility on the channel you intend to use before building the setup.
Resolve music and visual rights before testing publicly. Buying a track, subscribing to a music service or crediting an artist does not, by itself, establish permission for a continuous YouTube broadcast. You need permission that covers the intended streaming use and relevant territories, and you may need the rights holder to allowlist your channel in Content ID.
Choose where the encoder will run

No specific Mumbai VPS provider, data-center offer, price, egress allowance, Windows license, uptime commitment or route quality is established here. Before subscribing, check those terms with the provider and confirm that sustained video egress is allowed. For a one-way music broadcast, a stable sustained upload path and a workable recovery plan matter more than choosing a city based on proximity alone.

Set up YouTube Live and OBS on Windows
1. Create the broadcast in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio on the eligible channel and create a live stream using the encoder workflow. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions describe creating the stream and connecting an encoder.
- Copy the stream key from the stream setup and enter it only in OBS’s stream settings. Treat it as a password: do not expose it in screenshots, public scripts or logs. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- Use an unlisted test broadcast if you want to verify the complete path without making the test public. Confirm which visibility setting is selected before the intended launch.
2. Build a simple, rights-cleared scene
In OBS, make a scene containing the authorized music source, a static or gently animated visual, and station identification if needed. Confirm that every audio and visual asset is cleared for this specific use. The scene recipe is your choice; the important requirements are that the audio plays continuously, the visual behaves as intended, and neither includes material you lack rights to broadcast.
3. Configure the encoder for YouTube ingest
YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension to RTMP. Its encoder settings guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate (CBR); frame rates up to 60 fps; and a recommended two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds.

For a music-radio scene with little motion, choose a modest resolution and bitrate that your VPS’s tested upload path can sustain. Use the current YouTube bitrate table for the resolution and frame rate you select rather than treating one bitrate as suitable for every stream. A higher setting is not useful if the server cannot sustain it. Make sure the OBS output settings agree with the selected stream format, and check YouTube’s stream health during testing.
4. Test the actual program and connection
Before relying on a continuous broadcast, run a representative test with the intended audio, visual motion and encoder settings. Confirm that playback sounds clean, the scene continues as expected, YouTube receives a stable feed, and the viewer-facing playback page works. Check YouTube Studio’s stream health and messages, and test how OBS behaves after a network interruption. YouTube’s live streaming tips recommend testing and monitoring; a test is a way to find problems, not a guarantee that they cannot recur.

Make OBS start with Windows—and plan the recovery
OBS documents the Windows launch parameter --startstreaming as a way to start streaming automatically. This starts OBS streaming; it is not a watchdog and does not ensure that OBS will recover from every failure.
- On the VPS, create or locate an OBS shortcut. Open its Properties and, in Target, add
--startstreamingafter the quoted path toobs64.exe, separated by a space. - For automated or scheduled launch, set the shortcut’s working directory to the folder containing
obs64.exe. OBS’s Launch Parameters documentation specifically notes this working-directory requirement. - Configure Windows to launch the shortcut at the appropriate sign-in or startup point for your setup, then test a controlled restart. Confirm that OBS opens the intended scene, connects to the correct YouTube stream and produces audio and video.
- Decide how you will learn that the stream has stopped and how you will regain access to the VPS. Keep the stream key private, retain remote console or recovery access, and write down a manual restart procedure for OBS and the broadcast.
Plan Windows updates and maintenance for a time when a restart is acceptable. An unattended restart, a VPS reboot, lost connectivity, an OBS crash or a YouTube interruption can stop the feed. Startup automation may help after a restart, but it does not detect every fault or prove that the broadcast has resumed. YouTube’s tips recommend monitoring the live event and checking failover behavior; arrange monitoring appropriate to your operation rather than assuming that a running VPS means a healthy stream.

Music rights and YouTube interruptions
YouTube says that all live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted material in another live broadcast. A detected match can cause a placeholder to replace the stream, an interruption or termination. YouTube also says that a stream may be interrupted even when the creator has licensed the third-party content if the rights owner has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID. Confirm both the scope of your permission and any allowlisting requirement with the relevant rights holder before going live. See YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.

YouTube’s encoder guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That threshold is not a promise that a continuous 24/7 broadcast will have a complete archive. If you need recordings, plan a separate recording workflow and check the current behavior in YouTube Studio; do not rely on an uninterrupted day-long stream to produce a complete archive.

YouTube’s current eligibility help page also states limits of 10 simultaneous active streams per channel and three per stream key. Those limits matter for operating several concurrent broadcasts, not for a single radio stream.
Troubleshoot common failures
