You can run a continuous rain-and-piano channel through YouTube Live by sending a prepared audio-and-visual program from an encoder. Before you build the loop, secure rights to every recording and image; then enable live streaming, configure a local or cloud playback route, test the feed, and plan for outages and YouTube’s archive limits. A 24/7 broadcast may stay live without producing one complete replay.
1. Clear the rights to your music, rain audio, and visuals
Before uploading or streaming, make sure you have permission for the exact use: a YouTube livestream and, if you want one, an archived replay. YouTube’s live-stream terms put responsibility on the streamer to hold necessary worldwide rights on Google services, including music rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. Read YouTube’s livestream terms.
- For piano, use your own performance or a recording whose license explicitly permits livestreaming and the intended archive use.
- Apply the same check to rain recordings, cover art, backgrounds, animations, and other visuals. Material being available online does not establish permission to broadcast it.
- Check the recording and composition separately where relevant. A composition’s age, a “royalty-free” label, or a credit by itself does not establish that every recording, territory, platform, monetization use, and archive is covered.
2. Choose how the continuous program will run
YouTube defines an encoder as software or standalone hardware that converts an audiovisual feed into a stream. Its encoder directory includes OBS, hardware products, and cloud services; YouTube says listed encoders are not made by YouTube, so their appearance there is not an endorsement or a performance guarantee. See YouTube’s encoder options and encoder setup guidance.
| Route | What it means for this channel | Trade-off to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Local encoder | A computer runs the prepared playlist and sends the feed to YouTube. | Playback depends on that computer, its power, the local internet connection, and recovery after a failure. |
| Cloud streaming | A cloud service runs uploaded prerecorded video or a prepared program and sends it to YouTube. | You depend on the provider, its account and workflow, and any service fees; compare current service terms and capabilities directly. |
YouTube identifies both local encoder and cloud-service approaches, but does not establish a universally better choice or compare providers’ costs, reliability, or performance for a rain-and-piano channel.

Build a program that is more than a static loop
Prepare the audio and visual sequence before configuring the encoder. Decide how long each segment should play, how transitions should sound, and what viewers will see throughout the program. A distinctive identity can come from original piano performances, deliberate curation and variation, thoughtful sound design, and original visual treatment.
3. Enable live streaming and create the YouTube event
- Check eligibility. The channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. First-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours. See YouTube’s live-stream setup requirements.
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create or schedule a stream, then retrieve the stream URL and stream key using YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
- Keep the stream key private. YouTube describes it as working like a password and address that allow an encoder to send the feed. Do not share it publicly; if it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Set up the encoder. Enter YouTube’s stream destination and key, select the prepared audio and visual source, and confirm the encoder is sending the intended program.
- Wait for the preview before going live. Check the feed in Live Control Room before starting the public broadcast.
4. Test the feed, bandwidth, and recovery plan
Do a complete test before treating the channel as continuous. YouTube recommends preparing the encoder ahead of time, previewing the feed, checking the event from channel and watch pages and mobile devices, and monitoring audio and video. Its streaming tips recommend upload capacity above the stream bitrate, with 20% headroom; if you run primary and backup streams at once, account for both. See YouTube’s streaming tips.

- Acoustic Piano Feel - Touch-sensitive keys allow for true expression and dynamic performance. The weighted action replicates the acoustic piano experience
- Elevated Sound - Choose from 10 unique Voices, including the richness and resonance of a Yamaha grand piano, with full dynamic sound and deep bass
- Effortless Control - Simple one-button operation and streamlined functionality designed to keep you focused on your music
- Layered Sound - Dual Mode lets you blend two Voices, like piano and strings, creating a rich, layered sound for an inspiring new playing experience
- Included sustain pedal allows for subtle variations and greater expression in your performances
- Confirm the piano and rain are audible at a comfortable, consistent level and that the visuals appear as intended.
- Check that the watch page opens and plays on both desktop and mobile before relying on the stream.
- Watch for network interruptions, frozen visuals, silence, or a playlist that stops at its end.
- If using a primary and backup encoder, test failover by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its network and confirming that playback switches to the backup. YouTube recommends this kind of test; a single-encoder setup does not provide automatic failover.
Decide how the playlist should resume after an encoder or network interruption, and who will notice and respond if it does not. No configuration can guarantee uninterrupted YouTube availability.
5. Plan separately for live continuity and replay archives
A continuous livestream and a complete saved replay are different outcomes. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube recommends keeping a local recording as a backup. Check YouTube’s archive guidance.

If you need a replay, do not assume a 24/7 broadcast will yield one complete VOD. Record locally and consider a session plan that fits YouTube’s archive behavior; balance replay needs against the operational work of ending and restarting sessions.
6. Make the channel original and set realistic monetization expectations
YouTube applies its channel monetization policy to livestreams. It says monetized content should be original and authentic, and should not be mass-produced, generic, repetitive, or manipulative. A long, nearly unchanged loop may therefore be a weak basis for a distinctive channel; give the program meaningful creative choices rather than assuming duration alone makes it valuable. These steps do not guarantee monetization approval. Read YouTube’s channel monetization policies.

- Acoustic Piano Touch - 88 weighted, touch-sensitive keys and Graded Hammer Compact action deliver a natural acoustic piano feel
- Superior Sound - Hear the premium sound of a grand piano, complete with the natural resonance and rich, full tone of its internal mechanics

Eligible monetized livestreams may use pre-roll, display, and mid-roll ads, but ads are not guaranteed to serve to every viewer. YouTube recommends automatic live mid-rolls, which may run at natural breakpoints. YouTube reported that creators choosing automatic live mid-rolls saw, on average, over 20% uplift in instream ad revenue per hour compared with channels that had not chosen them; this was an average across 207 countries in January 2024, not a forecast for an individual channel. See YouTube’s livestream monetization guidance.

| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| No preview or stream will not start | Live streaming is not enabled yet, or the encoder destination/key is wrong. | Confirm channel verification and restrictions, allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation, and re-enter the current stream URL and key from Live Control Room. |
| Stream disconnects or becomes unstable | Insufficient upload headroom or an unreliable network. | Compare available upload capacity with the stream bitrate, preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, and account for both feeds if running a backup. |
| Viewers hear silence or see the wrong image | Incorrect source selection, muted audio, or a failed playback item. | Review the encoder’s selected sources and monitor the preview and live watch page, including on mobile. |
| The backup never takes over | Failover was not configured or has not been tested. | Test by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its network and verify the backup path actually takes over. |
| No complete replay appears | The broadcast exceeded YouTube’s 12-hour archive threshold. | Use a local recording and plan sessions around archive requirements instead of relying on a single 24/7 VOD. |
| Music is claimed, blocked, or removed | The rights do not cover the recording, composition, territory, livestream, or archive use. | Review the relevant licenses and permissions; replace material you cannot document as authorized for the intended use. |
