To stream a prepared Bengali devotional video to YouTube Live with FFmpeg, create an encoder stream in YouTube Live Control Room, copy its current RTMPS address and stream key, then send a compatible video-and-audio feed from FFmpeg. Test the feed privately or as an unlisted event, check the Control Room preview and stream health, and start the public event only after confirming the video, audio, network and rights are ready.
This is a file-to-live workflow: you do not need a camera or microphone if the recording is already prepared. YouTube does not specify a distinct ingest setting for India; use the endpoint and key shown for your account, and check that live streaming is available on your channel.
Before you begin: eligibility, video and rights
Confirm the channel can go live
YouTube’s current Help guidance says a channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. The stated minimum age for live streaming is 16. If this is the first time live streaming is enabled on the channel, activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the planned broadcast. YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming
Check what the recording contains
A devotional subject does not by itself make a recording free to rebroadcast. Confirm you have rights to the exact compositions, performances, recordings and video footage in your file. YouTube scans live streams for third-party material; a detected match can replace the stream with a placeholder and trigger a warning, and continued use can lead to interruption or termination. If you have a licence for third-party material, ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube says a stream may still be interrupted when the channel is not allowlisted, including when rights are licensed or territorial restrictions are set. Keep permission records for the material you use. YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams

Create the YouTube Live event and get the RTMPS details
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room. Create or schedule a live stream and select an encoder workflow rather than a webcam workflow.
- Choose the event timing and visibility. For a rehearsal, use a private or unlisted test event. For a public broadcast, set the event’s visibility and schedule as needed.
- Copy the ingest details shown for that event. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the connection. The ordinary RTMP address may be shown by default; choose the RTMPS address in Live Control Room and use the exact current URL and stream key provided there. YouTube Help: Encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions
- Protect the key. Treat the stream key as a password. Do not publish it in scripts, screenshots, shared notes or logs. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube’s live-stream settings before broadcasting.
Choose a resolution, bitrate and audio format
YouTube’s encoder guidance for conventional SDR ingest lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 video over RTMP/RTMPS, at up to 60 frames per second; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate encoding; and a recommended two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. Its SDR recommendations include Rec. 709, 8-bit video, 44.1 kHz stereo audio and 128 kbps stereo audio. Follow the settings shown in the current YouTube guidance and match them to what your FFmpeg build and source file support. YouTube encoder settings
| H.264 output | Minimum bitrate in YouTube’s table | Recommended bitrate in YouTube’s table |
|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
For many prepared devotional videos, 720p30 or 1080p30 is a sensible starting point, depending on the source’s actual quality, motion and available upload bandwidth. This is a practical choice based on YouTube’s bitrate guidance, not a platform requirement. Avoid upscaling a low-resolution source just to select a larger output frame size.

Send the file with FFmpeg
FFmpeg’s documented command structure places global options, input options and inputs before output options and the output URL. The following is an illustrative H.264/AAC example for a video file with audio. Replace the placeholders with the actual file, current RTMPS URL and key from Live Control Room. Check your FFmpeg build for the required codecs and protocols before relying on this command; it has not been validated against your file or build.
ffmpeg -re -i "bengali-devotional-video.mp4"
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -b:v 8M -maxrate 8M -bufsize 16M
-pix_fmt yuv420p -r 30 -g 60 -keyint_min 60 -sc_threshold 0
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100 -ac 2
-f flv "RTMPS_URL/STREAM_KEY"
In this example, the 8 Mbps video bitrate corresponds to YouTube’s recommended H.264 bitrate for 720p30; the 30 fps output and 60-frame GOP make a two-second keyframe interval. If you choose 1080p30 instead, use a bitrate appropriate to the source and YouTube’s listed recommendation of 14 Mbps, then update the bitrate-related options consistently. The audio options specify AAC stereo at 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps, in line with YouTube’s advanced SDR recommendations. The FLV muxer is used for the RTMP-family output workflow; the endpoint itself should be the RTMPS URL supplied by YouTube.

The -re option paces file input in real time, rather than sending it as fast as it can be read. For source files without an audio track, this example needs an audio source or an intentional silent audio stream; do not assume every file will work unchanged. For playlists or repeated playback, test the exact FFmpeg workflow and event duration in advance rather than assuming one file will loop automatically. FFmpeg’s documentation describes the general syntax and protocol behavior, but does not certify this specific command for a particular file, build or YouTube event. Test, start and monitor the broadcast
Rehearse before the public event
YouTube advises setting up an encoder event at least two hours ahead, starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time, checking the Live Control Room preview before starting the event, and monitoring audio and video throughout. Run an unlisted or private test first so you can verify the whole path before a public devotional programme. YouTube Help: encoder setup

- Listen for audible, synchronized audio; check levels and channel availability on a phone as well as a computer.
- Confirm the intended stream is accessible from the channel or watch page with the selected visibility.
- If you are recording a local archive at the same time, check that the archive file is being written and growing.
- During the event, keep Live Control Room open and watch stream health and any alerts.
Allow for real upload capacity
YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom between the stream’s total outgoing bitrate and available upload bandwidth. Upload capacity can be lower than download capacity, and other users or devices on the same connection can consume bandwidth. Test the actual uplink under realistic conditions; a connection disruption can break a live stream. YouTube encoder settings · YouTube Help: troubleshoot live stream issues
Pick latency for the kind of broadcast
Lower latency can make audience interaction feel more immediate, but YouTube notes that it may increase playback buffering. If the devotional video is prerecorded and chat interaction is not central, lower latency may offer little benefit. DVR, when enabled, lets viewers pause and rewind. Choose based on whether real-time interaction matters more than a steadier playback experience. YouTube Help: latency and DVR settings

Troubleshoot common FFmpeg and YouTube Live problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| No preview in Live Control Room | Wrong ingest URL or key, stream not yet being sent, or an incompatible output | Copy the current RTMPS URL and key from the correct event; check FFmpeg output for connection or codec errors; verify the build supports the selected codecs and RTMPS protocol. |
| Buffering, unstable health or dropped connection | Insufficient or variable upload capacity, network interruption, or bitrate too close to the uplink limit | Test upload capacity during the event’s likely network conditions, leave YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, reduce the output bitrate or resolution if needed, and limit competing network use. |
| Video appears but sound is missing or wrong | The input has no usable audio track, the selected stream mapping is wrong, or the audio format/settings do not match the output | Inspect the input streams with FFmpeg, confirm an audio stream is present or add an intentional audio input, and check the Control Room preview and a viewer device during rehearsal. |
| Keyframe or format warning | Output keyframe interval, codec, frame rate or pixel format differs from YouTube’s ingest guidance | Use a two-second keyframe interval, keep it within four seconds, and confirm the selected codec and SDR settings against YouTube’s current encoder table. |
| Stream interrupted with a copyright notice | YouTube detected third-party content, or a licensed channel has not been allowlisted by the rights owner | Stop using material you cannot clear; for licensed content, contact the rights owner about adding the channel to the Content ID allowlist. Keep permission records for the specific material. |
For account-specific availability or a restriction notice, check the channel’s Live Control Room and YouTube Help rather than assuming an India-specific ingest configuration; the guidance cited here does not identify a separate India setting.
