To remove a Content ID-claimed song from an archived YouTube livestream, open the video in YouTube Studio, open the claim notice, select View details, then choose Take action. Select Erase song, Mute all sound in the claimed segments, Replace song, or Trim out segment. Back up the video and preview your edit before saving: YouTube says saved Studio Editor changes cannot be reverted, and the claim clears only if all claimed material is removed or covered.
First, check whether this is an archived-video claim
This guide is for a Content ID claim on a completed livestream that was archived as a video. YouTube scans live streams for third-party material while they are running; if detected material remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. For archived livestreams, YouTube says: “Content ID claims are only made after you complete your live streams, if you decide to archive the video.” YouTube Help: Content ID claims on live streams
If the stream is currently live and YouTube has interrupted it, editing the archive is not a way to resume that live broadcast. The steps below apply to the archived video and its claim notice.
Open the claim in YouTube Studio
- Sign in to YouTube Studio and open Content.
- Find the archived livestream and open its claim notice. You can also select the video to view its details.
- Select View details for the relevant claim.
- Under the claim, select Take action to see the available editing options.
The controls and claim status for a particular livestream are shown in that channel’s Studio account. YouTube’s documented workflow is described in YouTube Help: Remove claimed content from videos.

Choose the least disruptive edit that removes the whole claim
The right choice depends on how much of the soundtrack and picture you need to preserve. The claim clears only when the claimed material is fully removed or covered; a partial edit can leave it active.
| Studio action | What it changes | Best fit and limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Erase song | Attempts to mute only the claimed song while preserving other audio, such as dialogue or effects. | Try this when preserving non-song sound matters. YouTube cautions that it may fail when the song is difficult to separate. |
| Mute all sound in the claimed segments | Mutes all audio during the affected interval. | A broader fix that YouTube says is usually faster and more likely to clear the claim, but it also removes dialogue and other sound in that interval. |
| Replace song | Replaces the claimed audio with one or more tracks from the YouTube Audio Library. | Available for audio claims. Replacement coverage must span the entire claimed interval, or the claim may remain. |
| Trim out segment | Removes the selected video segment, including its audio. | Use when removing the picture and sound in that interval is acceptable. Any claimed content left behind can prevent the claim from clearing. |
These options and their limits are documented in YouTube Help: Remove claimed content from videos.

Check every claimed timestamp in a looping livestream
A song that repeats in a pre-recorded loop may appear in more than one place in the archived video. Review all claim timestamps in View details, not just the first occurrence. Make sure the chosen edit removes or covers every occurrence of the claimed material. Muting or replacing one interval will not necessarily address a later repeat; trimming only one occurrence may leave another claimed segment in the archive.
After editing, check the claim details again. YouTube requires all claimed material to be removed for the relevant action to clear the claim. YouTube Help’s instructions for removing claimed content explain this requirement.

Back up and preview before saving
- Save a copy first. Download the video or use Google Takeout before editing. YouTube recommends keeping a copy because of the change to reverting edits.
- Preview the edit. Check the affected interval in the player and adjust the start or end times as needed. For a replacement, confirm the new track covers the full claimed interval.
- Save only after checking. YouTube states that, starting in June 2025, saved edits in Studio Editor cannot be reverted with Revert to original.
See YouTube Help: Download YouTube videos that you’ve uploaded and YouTube Help: Download your data for the available backup routes, and YouTube Help: Remove claimed content from videos for the editing and revert guidance.
Wait for processing, then verify the result
After you save, Studio shows that the edit is processing and provides an estimated time. You cannot make other edits to the video while processing is underway. When processing finishes, reload the video list and check that the edit applied and the claim is gone.
