A reset can coincide with a connection problem, but the available guidance does not establish it as the cause of this particular symptom. Work through one change at a time so you can tell whether the issue is Windows-wide, Wi-Fi-related, or specific to OBS or the route to YouTube’s ingest server.
What repeated reconnects indicate
OBS Project’s Stream Connection Troubleshooting guide, dated September 30, 2024, says intermittent disconnections indicate a network issue between the computer and the remote stream ingest server. That is a useful starting point, not a diagnosis: the evidence does not show that a Windows adapter reset, OBS, YouTube, or any single device is necessarily responsible.
Use the checks below to distinguish a general Windows connectivity problem from a streaming-specific one. Change only one setting or connection at a time, then observe whether the reconnects change.
Check Windows connectivity before changing OBS
Confirm ordinary internet access
- Open a browser on the same PC and load a few websites. If they fail or stall, resolve Windows or router connectivity before treating this as an OBS-only problem.
- If browsing works, note whether other apps that use the internet also disconnect. Working web access does not prove the connection to YouTube’s ingest server is stable, but it helps separate a broad outage from a streaming-specific symptom.
- Check whether the problem began immediately after the adapter reset and whether it affects other devices on the same network. These observations can narrow the scope; they do not by themselves identify the cause.
Compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet if you can
If the PC is on Wi-Fi, test a wired connection to the router when practical, then stream under otherwise similar conditions. OBS recommends wired networking because Wi-Fi can be unstable for streaming. A change in behavior is useful evidence, not proof that Wi-Fi was the only cause. An Ethernet cable is a diagnostic option, not a guaranteed fix.

Check OBS network settings
OBS’s network options are under Settings → Advanced → Network. The exact labels can vary between versions, but the OBS guide documents these checks:
Set Bind to IP to Default
- In OBS, open Settings.
- Select Advanced, then find the Network section.
- Set Bind to IP to Default, apply the change, and test the stream again.
Binding OBS to a specific interface or address can matter when a PC has multiple adapters or virtual networking software. Default is OBS’s recommended setting for troubleshooting; if it was already selected, move on rather than repeatedly toggling it.

Try the documented Windows network options
In the same Network section, OBS lists Enable Network Optimizations and Enable TCP pacing as Windows troubleshooting options. Try an option and test before changing another, so the result remains interpretable. If you have previously changed these settings, record their original state before experimenting.
OBS also suggests trying IP Family: IPv4 Only if other troubleshooting has not helped. If that makes no difference, OBS recommends returning to the default IPv4 and IPv6 setting. Treat this as a comparison, not a universal fix.

Use dynamic bitrate only as a mitigation
OBS’s dynamic bitrate option can lower bitrate when the connection cannot keep up. It may reduce dropped frames during congestion, but it does not repair the underlying connection and can lower video quality. Use it as a temporary mitigation while investigating, not as evidence that the network issue is resolved.
Use the pattern of failures to narrow the cause
- Windows internet access fails too: focus on the adapter, router or modem, driver, and Windows connectivity steps below.
- Internet browsing works, but OBS disconnects: test OBS’s network settings and compare wired with Wi-Fi if relevant. A connection to websites does not guarantee a stable route to the stream ingest server.
- One streaming service or server behaves differently: OBS says testing another service can help identify a service-related difference. This comparison does not, by itself, resolve a general connection problem or prove which side is responsible.
- The stream changes after one OBS setting change: keep track of the setting and test conditions. A changed result is informative, but not necessarily conclusive about the root cause.
Run Microsoft’s Windows connectivity steps if the connection itself is unreliable
Microsoft documents the following commands for general Windows 10 and Windows 11 connectivity problems. They are not presented as an OBS-specific repair. If ordinary connectivity is failing, run them in order from an administrator Command Prompt, testing internet access after the sequence:

Microsoft’s guidance is available for Ethernet connection problems and Wi-Fi connection issues. The pages cover Windows connectivity generally, not a confirmed remedy for reconnects after a specific adapter reset.
Reinstall the network adapter driver only if earlier steps fail
Microsoft documents uninstalling the adapter driver and restarting Windows if less disruptive steps do not help. Before doing this, have a copy of the correct driver available from the computer or motherboard manufacturer in case Windows does not reinstall it automatically. OBS likewise recommends current network drivers from the computer or motherboard manufacturer when troubleshooting stream disconnections.

Keep Network reset as a last step
Microsoft describes Windows Network reset as a last resort. It removes installed network adapters and their settings, then reinstalls them with default settings after restart. A VPN client or Hyper-V virtual switch may need to be reinstalled or configured again afterward. Because this changes networking setup broadly, try the narrower checks first and make sure you can restore software or settings you rely on.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Check software, router, and hardware only when the symptoms point there
- Security or VPN software: OBS lists security software, VPN software, and bundled network utilities among possible factors. If safe and permitted, test whether the behavior changes with relevant software disabled or reconfigured; restore protections afterward. Do not leave security software off as a permanent workaround.
- Router or modem: if multiple devices or apps have connection trouble, check the router or modem and consult the ISP’s connection guidance. Restarting network equipment may interrupt other users and devices, so choose a suitable time.
- Driver or adapter: outdated drivers or faulty hardware are possible, but replacement hardware is not a first-step diagnosis. Check the manufacturer’s driver and seek support if the adapter continues to fail.
- ISP connection: if Windows checks and local network comparisons do not resolve the issue, OBS recommends contacting the ISP. Describe when the disconnects occur and whether other devices are affected.
Troubleshooting quick reference
| What you observe | Next useful check | What it can tell you |
|---|---|---|
| Websites and other apps lose connectivity | Use Microsoft’s Windows connectivity steps; check the router, adapter, and ISP connection. | The problem may extend beyond OBS; these checks do not identify a single cause by themselves. |
| Only OBS reconnects, while ordinary browsing works | Set OBS Bind to IP to Default, then test the documented network options one at a time. | Helps compare OBS configuration with general connectivity; it does not prove the route or ingest server is healthy. |
| OBS disconnects on Wi-Fi but behaves differently on Ethernet | Repeat a comparable stream test over the wired connection. | Points to a possible Wi-Fi stability difference, without proving it is the only factor. |
| Changing IP Family to IPv4 Only makes no difference | Return to the default IPv4 and IPv6 setting. | Matches OBS guidance for an unsuccessful IPv4-only test. |
| Reconnects ease when dynamic bitrate is enabled | Continue diagnosing the connection and assess the resulting video quality. | May indicate congestion mitigation helped; it does not repair the underlying network issue. |
