You must meet the relevant YouTube Partner Program (YPP) requirements, pass channel review, follow monetization and rights policies, and make sure livestream watch hours meet YouTube’s rules.
What it takes to monetize a 24/7 livestream
YouTube applies its channel monetization policies to live streams as well as long-form videos and Shorts. A continuous schedule is not an eligibility shortcut: your channel must meet the applicable YPP requirements, be available in an eligible country or region, satisfy other account conditions, and pass YouTube’s review. Reaching a threshold makes you eligible to apply; it does not guarantee acceptance. See YouTube’s YPP overview and eligibility requirements.
As of October 3, 2026, YouTube describes two relevant YPP entry stages. The expanded program’s earlier entry path may unlock certain fan-funding and Shopping features in eligible countries or regions. The higher threshold applies to ad and YouTube Premium revenue sharing. Feature availability and requirements can vary, so check the Earn area in YouTube Studio and the current Help pages before planning around a feature.

Both paths also have non-numeric requirements. These include living in a country or region where the relevant YPP offer is available, having no active Community Guidelines strikes, enabling two-step verification, having access to advanced features, and linking or being ready to set up an AdSense for YouTube account. Make sure livestream hours can count
If you are relying on livestream viewing to reach the public watch-hour threshold, preserve the replay as a public video on demand (VOD). YouTube excludes livestreams that are unlisted, deleted, or not converted to VOD from qualified watch hours. A 24/7 schedule does not make every hour eligible by default; review the watch-time information in YouTube Studio and the YPP eligibility rules.

Ways a 24/7 channel can earn revenue
Each revenue route has its own eligibility and obligations. For an overview of monetization features and modules, see YouTube’s guide to choosing how to monetize.

Configure livestream ads with viewer experience in mind
YouTube Help states: “If your channel is monetized and monetization is turned on for your live stream, YouTube will trigger ads to serve on your content.” The same guidance cautions that ad slots are not guaranteed to serve. When live monetization is on, pre-roll and display ads are automatically on; mid-rolls can be automatic, scheduled, or manual. YouTube reported that creators who chose live automatic mid-roll ads saw, on average, over 20% uplift in instream ad revenue per hour. That comparison was between channels with the setting enabled and channels without it, averaged across 207 countries in January 2024. It is YouTube’s reported comparison, not an independently verified causal estimate or a forecast for an individual channel. It should not be treated as a guaranteed result.

Make the stream original and rights-cleared
A stream’s monetization risk is not limited to the material currently on screen. YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to live streaming and assess channels as a whole. In a policy note dated July 15, 2025, YouTube renamed its former “repetitious content” policy “inauthentic content” to clarify that repetitive or mass-produced content has always been ineligible under its requirement for original and authentic work. Reviewers may consider the channel’s main theme, most-viewed and newest videos, the largest share of watch time, metadata, and About section. Read YouTube’s channel monetization policies.
For a documentary-focused channel, make the original contribution clear: for example, provide your own reporting, narration, analysis, educational context, or meaningful curation, and distinguish programming blocks so viewers can understand what they are watching. These are editorial approaches, not guarantees of monetization eligibility. Replacing a title or overlay, or looping a playlist, does not by itself make reused material original.

You must also hold the necessary rights for live content worldwide, including music rights, and comply with applicable laws and rules. A subscription that lets you listen to music does not necessarily grant the right to rebroadcast it on YouTube. Use only content for which you have the required rights and review YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions.
Keeping a stream live: computer or cloud
A 24/7 stream needs a playback and connection setup that can keep supplying the broadcast. A computer-based encoder can send a stream to YouTube, but choosing or buying an encoder is a production decision—not a YPP qualification. The right hardware video encoder depends on your existing capture and production workflow. Whatever setup you use, it does not change YPP thresholds, rights obligations, or the need for original value.

Plan for revenue without assuming an RPM
Do not budget from a single view count or a generic RPM estimate. The available evidence does not establish a universal ad rate, sponsorship fee, or income forecast for a 24/7 stream. Instead, plan around the pieces you can verify: YPP status, qualified watch time, the stream’s public replay, which monetization features your channel can access, and the actual performance shown in YouTube Studio.
