Playlist shuffle and 4K 60fps are separate things. Shuffle changes the order in which playlist videos play; 4K/60fps describes a live stream’s picture quality. If you mean watching videos in a YouTube playlist, shuffle the playlist in the player when that control is available. If you mean broadcasting a shuffled sequence as one YouTube Live stream, YouTube’s documented IFrame Player API can shuffle an embedded player’s playlist, but that does not, by itself, turn the player into a live broadcast.
How do I shuffle videos in a YouTube playlist?
First decide which workflow you mean: watching a playlist, or broadcasting a sequence of videos live. A YouTube playlist is a collection of videos. YouTube Help explains how to save videos to a playlist and reorder them by dragging them on desktop, but its current playlist guidance does not establish one shuffle-button location that applies across desktop, mobile, TV, and other devices.
For watching a playlist
- Open or create the playlist that contains the videos you want to watch. On desktop, YouTube Help documents saving videos to a playlist and dragging playlist items to reorder them.
- Use the shuffle control in the YouTube player if it is shown in your current app or device interface. The control’s location can vary, and the current Help instructions do not provide a cross-device walkthrough.
- If you want the playlist to repeat, use loop. Looping repeats the playlist; it does not randomize its order. YouTube Help documents playlist looping on desktop, mobile, TV, and gaming consoles.
For an embedded player you control
The YouTube IFrame Player API documents setShuffle(true) for a playlist. If shuffle is enabled after playback has started, the current video continues; the next selection comes from the reordered playlist. The shuffle setting does not persist when a different playlist is loaded, so enable it again after changing playlists. This API behavior applies to the embedded player; it does not establish which shuffle controls appear in YouTube’s consumer apps.
Can I shuffle a YouTube Live playlist?
That depends on what “Live playlist” means. If you mean a playlist containing live-stream videos or their replays, shuffle is a playback-order question: use the playlist/player controls, or the IFrame Player API for an embedded player you control. If you mean one live broadcast that plays a changing sequence of prerecorded videos, shuffle must be handled by the playback or broadcast setup; YouTube Live’s resolution and frame-rate settings do not choose the order.

The API’s shuffle setting controls a playlist in an embedded player. It is not documented as a control for rearranging the content of a separate YouTube Live broadcast. Do not assume that enabling shuffle in a viewer’s playlist changes what a broadcaster sends to YouTube.
Does 4K 60fps affect shuffle?
No. 4K/2160p refers to a resolution of 3840 × 2160 pixels, while 60fps is the frame rate. Neither setting changes playlist order. For a live broadcast, YouTube’s current English-language encoder guidance recommends the following bitrate settings:

YouTube says 4K/2160 streams use normal latency; the low-latency option is unavailable at that resolution. Its feature table lists 4K bitrate streaming for horizontal live streams and says it is unavailable for vertical live feeds on the YouTube app. These are broadcast constraints, not playlist controls.
Will YouTube save a 4K live stream automatically?
YouTube says 1440p and 2160p streams are automatically archived, and streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived. A stream that runs longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Keep a local recording if the archive matters; do not treat the live broadcast archive as the only copy.

Common mix-ups and fixes
- The same video keeps playing: confirm that shuffle is enabled rather than playlist looping. Loop repeats; shuffle changes order.
- The order changes only after the current video ends: that is consistent with the IFrame Player API behavior when shuffle is turned on mid-playback.
- Shuffle stops after loading another playlist: the API shuffle setting does not carry over to a different playlist; call
setShuffle(true)again. - You cannot find a shuffle button: YouTube’s Help article does not document a universal control position across devices. Check the controls in the player you are using rather than relying on instructions for a different app or screen.
- The live output is not shuffled: viewer playlist shuffle and broadcast sequencing are separate workflows. An embedded player’s shuffle setting does not itself control a separate live encoder or broadcast.
- The 4K stream cannot use low latency: YouTube does not offer its low-latency option for 4K/2160 streaming; use normal latency at that resolution.
