Use Stripe Payment Links to collect tips during a livestream: create a hosted payment page in the Stripe Dashboard, choose a fixed amount or let viewers choose a one-time amount, then share the link or its QR code where your platform permits. First make sure the payment is genuinely a tip for content or another service already provided—not a personal transfer or a charitable donation without a specific charitable purpose.
Check that your livestream payments fit Stripe’s rules
Stripe distinguishes tips from charitable donations and personal transfers. It says a tip must be given for goods or services already provided, with content as an example. A charitable donation must support a specific charitable purpose, and the funds must be used for that stated purpose. Stripe does not support personal or peer-to-peer money transmission. Review Stripe’s requirements for accepting tips or donations before setting up your page.
For ordinary viewer support connected to your videos or livestream content, describe the payment accurately as a tip. Do not label a personal payment a “donation” just to change how the transaction appears, and do not use charitable wording unless the payment truly meets Stripe’s charitable-purpose requirements.
Check country-specific eligibility
Stripe’s guidance identifies restrictions that vary by country and use case. Its examples include limits on donations in Australia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, and Thailand. These examples are not a complete legal assessment, and the treatment of a tip can differ from that of a charitable donation. Check the current Stripe rules and applicable local law for your country and account before sharing a link.

Choose how viewers will enter an amount

For casual support during a stream, a customer-chosen one-time amount gives viewers flexibility. A fixed amount is useful if you want a clearly defined contribution or are charging for a specific offering. Use recurring payments only when the payment is genuinely for an ongoing service or arrangement that you intend to provide.
Create a Stripe Payment Link
- Open Stripe Dashboard and start a payment link. Choose the option to create a new Payment Link. Stripe describes Payment Links as a no-code way to create a hosted payment page.
- Select the amount model. For a fixed amount, select a product or subscription and set its name, description, and price. For an amount chosen by the viewer, select the customer-chosen-amount option; add a preset, minimum, or maximum if useful.
- Write an accurate title and description. Tell viewers what the payment supports, such as your published content. Be clear about whether the payment is one-time or recurring. Do not imply charitable status or promise a benefit you will not provide.
- Review the call to action. Stripe’s support guidance says the call-to-action setting can be changed under Advanced options, including from “pay” to “donate” when appropriate. For an ordinary creator tip, use wording that accurately describes support for content rather than “donate.”
- Create and test the link. Review the hosted payment page and confirm that the amount model and description match what you intend before posting it publicly.
- Copy the payment URL or use the QR code option. Stripe says Payment Links can be shared by email, social media, or on a website.
Put the link where livestream viewers can use it
Depending on the rules of your streaming platform, you might place the link in the stream description, creator profile, a pinned comment, or an on-screen graphic. Platform-specific rules vary and should be checked directly; do not assume every platform permits payment links or QR codes in every placement. If you use a QR code on screen, keep it visible long enough to scan without obscuring the content.

Use a short, plain explanation next to the link—for example, that viewers can leave a one-time tip to support your content. If the payment is for a specific charity, identify the charitable purpose and ensure the funds are used for it; do not use charitable framing for a personal creator tip.

- Decide whether the amount is fixed or viewer-selected, and whether any recurring charge is genuinely intended.
- Check that the title, description, and call to action do not misrepresent an ordinary tip as a charitable donation.
