Streamlabs’ Safe Mode is a feature for protecting a live stream and chat. If you mean Windows Safe Mode, that is a Windows startup option—not a Streamlabs setting. For an app that will not start or is crashing, use Streamlabs’ troubleshooting steps instead.
Does Streamlabs Desktop have a safe mode?
Streamlabs uses “Safe Mode” to describe a stream-and-chat safety feature, not an application startup mode. The feature is intended to help prevent harassment, hateful messages and chat spam. It clears recent events and queued alerts, disables follower alerts and, when used with Cloudbot, can apply chat restrictions. See Streamlabs’ Safe Mode overview for its current feature details.

How to open Windows Safe Mode
If you want to troubleshoot Windows itself, Microsoft’s Startup Settings instructions apply to Windows 10 and Windows 11. Microsoft describes Safe Mode as starting Windows “in a basic state, using a limited set of files and drivers.”
- Enter the Windows Recovery Environment. If you can reach the sign-in screen, hold Shift while selecting Power > Restart. You can also reach recovery through Windows settings or recovery options, depending on whether Windows starts normally.
- Choose Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
- After Windows restarts to the Startup Settings list, select the Safe Mode option you need. Choose Safe Mode with Networking only if you need network access; it adds the network drivers and services required for that access.
For the exact recovery options and current instructions, use Microsoft Support’s Windows Safe Mode guide. These steps change how Windows starts; they do not turn on a Streamlabs mode, and the available guide does not establish that every Streamlabs Desktop function will work in Windows Safe Mode.

What to do if Streamlabs Desktop will not start or keeps crashing
Use the symptom-specific steps in Streamlabs’ app guidance rather than assuming that Windows Safe Mode is a supported fix for Streamlabs Desktop. The vendor’s published troubleshooting covers crashes and startup behavior, but does not establish a dedicated Streamlabs Desktop Safe Mode launch procedure.
If Streamlabs behaves as if it is launching for the first time
For this repeated first-run behavior, Streamlabs recommends closing the app and ending lingering processes before reopening it:

- Close Streamlabs Desktop.
- Open Task Manager with Ctrl+Shift+Esc.
- End any lingering processes named Streamlabs, Electron, Obs64, Crash Handler or Crash_Handler.
- Reopen Streamlabs Desktop.

- Update your graphics and other relevant drivers.
- Reinstall Streamlabs Desktop, run the installer as administrator, and try launching the app as administrator.
- Check whether your firewall or antivirus is blocking the app and allow it if appropriate.
- If you can open the app, enable additional crash reporting under Settings > Get Support.
If the crash continues, request a diagnostic report or submit a support ticket using Streamlabs’ crash troubleshooting guide.
Be cautious with Clear Cache and Restart
Do not treat Clear Cache and Restart as a harmless first fix. Streamlabs says the option starts the app from scratch and wipes user data; its related troubleshooting guidance warns that clearing cache could lose scene collections and settings.
