There is no single best Cyberpunk 2077 streaming preset: the right settings depend on your platform, encoder, upload connection, and how much performance your PC has left after rendering the game. Start with a compatible hardware encoder, use a resolution and frame rate your system can sustain, and leave GPU headroom. If the stream or game stutters, reduce the game’s load or cap its frame rate before buying hardware.

Choose the platform and encoder first

Streaming services do not all support the same codecs, and compatible hardware matters. NVIDIA’s OBS guide recommends NVENC H.264 for Twitch. For YouTube, it recommends NVENC AV1 with an RTX 40 Series GPU, or NVENC HEVC otherwise. Treat these as vendor starting points for supported setups, not guarantees that every platform, account, or current configuration accepts every codec. Check your platform’s current encoder requirements and the options available in your installed OBS version.

NVENC is a hardware encoder built into supported NVIDIA GPUs. Using a hardware encoder can move encoding work away from the CPU, but it does not remove the need for GPU headroom: the game and stream still share system resources.

  • Tuning: High Quality.
  • Multipass mode: two-pass quarter-resolution.

These are vendor recommendations, not universal settings. Encoder menus and available options can vary by GPU, driver, and OBS version; use settings your hardware exposes and verify current platform support.

Pick a resolution, frame rate, and bitrate you can sustain

Higher resolution and frame rate can improve the viewing experience, but they require more from the game renderer, encoder, and upload connection. Begin with a modest target, test a representative scene, and increase quality only if gameplay remains smooth and the stream stays stable.

720p at 30 FPS 3,000 kbps CBR, 2-second keyframe interval, Quality preset, 2 B-frames

Before using a sample, confirm the current bitrate and encoder rules for your platform. A bitrate that works in a speed test may still be unstable on a busy or inconsistent connection.

Set bitrate against stable upload capacity

OBS explains that dropped frames mean the connection to the remote server is unstable or the configured bitrate cannot be sustained. Its troubleshooting guidance suggests testing another server and lowering bitrate. It gives 75% of total upload speed as a starting point, while noting that the streaming service’s limits also apply. This is a rule of thumb, not a guarantee: other household traffic and upload fluctuations can reduce usable capacity. Lowering bitrate may make the picture less detailed.

Leave performance headroom for Cyberpunk 2077

The game and encoder compete for system resources. If the GPU is fully occupied rendering Cyberpunk, encoding and delivery may suffer even when the internet connection is sound. NVIDIA says GPU utilization above 95% can in some cases make a stream lag. Streamlabs recommends running the game at least 70 FPS for a 60 FPS stream target as practical headroom; that is guidance, not a measured guarantee for every PC.

Reduce rendering load before upgrading

  • Cap the in-game frame rate so the GPU is not rendering frames your stream or display does not need.
  • Lower graphics settings or game resolution if GPU load remains high.
  • Try borderless windowed mode or V-Sync if either helps reduce GPU use on your setup.
  • Test changes one at a time in a demanding scene, watching both game performance and OBS statistics.

Cyberpunk’s published PC performance figures are CD PROJEKT RED internal test results; the company cautions that actual performance varies with hardware, software, settings, and resolution. Its recommended non-ray-tracing configuration lists 1080p/high with 60 expected FPS, while its Ultra example lists 2160p with 60 expected FPS. These are game performance references, not promises of simultaneous streaming performance.

Keep Overdrive and path tracing optional

Ray Tracing: Overdrive is GPU-intensive and off by default. CD PROJEKT RED’s support guidance recommends it on NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 Series cards from the 4070 Ti upward, and on an RTX 3090 at 1080p/30 FPS. This describes the Overdrive graphics mode, not a streaming requirement. The company’s 2160p Ray Tracing Overdrive example lists an RTX 4080 and 60 expected FPS, measured with DLSS Frame Generation; it should not be read as a guarantee for a stream workload.

If Overdrive causes unstable gameplay or leaves too little GPU capacity for encoding, turn it off or reduce other graphics demands. Streaming at a lower game setting can be a better trade-off than keeping the heaviest visual mode enabled.

Account for game and GPU versions

CD PROJEKT RED says Patch 2.21 introduced DLSS 4 support on compatible hardware, including Multi Frame Generation options for RTX 50-series cards and a Transformer model option for Super Resolution and Ray Reconstruction on RTX cards. Availability depends on the installed game build and compatible GPU, so check the game’s current settings and release information rather than assuming those options are present.

The published PC requirements specify SSD storage. CD PROJEKT RED says SSDs offer faster loading, improved streaming, and better overall performance than HDDs; its requirements page also notes that older minimum hardware might still run the game as active support and testing change. An SSD does not by itself resolve an overloaded GPU or unstable upload connection.

Protect the game audio

Cyberpunk 2077’s Streamer Mode disables certain songs for streaming and video use. Enabling it can help reduce copyright-claim risk when game audio is included, but it does not guarantee that every audio-related claim will be avoided.

Diagnose the symptom before changing settings

What you notice Likely area to check First adjustments
OBS reports dropped frames Network stability, bitrate, or server connection Try another ingest server and reduce bitrate; check whether other upload activity is using the connection.
Game FPS falls or gameplay feels uneven Game rendering load or GPU headroom Cap game FPS, lower graphics settings or resolution, and consider disabling Overdrive.
Gameplay is smooth but the stream looks soft Bitrate or output resolution/frame rate trade-off Test a sustainable bitrate and output target within the platform’s current limits; raising resolution without enough bitrate can worsen the result.
Encoder options are missing or the stream will not start Hardware support, selected codec, OBS version, or platform compatibility Confirm the GPU supports the chosen encoder and that the platform accepts the codec; select a supported alternative.

Change one variable at a time and test the same kind of demanding gameplay. That makes it easier to distinguish a network problem from a rendering or encoding bottleneck.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is to keep a prerecorded YouTube stream running 24/7 rather than stream live gameplay, StreamNeo is a different option from OBS: upload a recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for prerecorded-video streams to YouTube, not camera-based live gameplay. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start the free day.
