To simulcast to YouTube and Twitch, send the same live program to both platforms through either an encoder that supports multiple outputs or a relay service. Set up and test each destination before going live, and make sure your connection can sustain the outgoing feed or feeds. Twitch permits simulcasting unless you have an agreement requiring exclusivity, but its rules require a comparable Twitch viewing experience and prohibit directing Twitch viewers to a concurrent stream elsewhere.
Before you start: check eligibility and prepare both destinations
Make sure YouTube Live is ready
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. First-time activation can take at least 24 hours, so enable live streaming well before the event. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
Create the YouTube event and protect its stream key
In YouTube Studio, create or schedule the live stream, then open its stream settings. Depending on your encoder, you may need to copy the YouTube stream URL and stream key into it. YouTube describes the key as a password and address for your stream: do not share it publicly. If it is compromised, reset it in Live Control Room and replace the old key in your encoder. The exact workflow is in YouTube’s encoder setup guide.
Get Twitch’s destination settings
Prepare the Twitch stream using Twitch’s current creator workflow, then configure your encoder or relay with the Twitch destination details it requires. The precise controls vary by encoder or relay; there is no single interface or set of labels that applies to every product. YouTube’s cross-platform streaming guide explains the general need for each platform’s URL and key unless your encoder handles destination setup for you.

Choose how to send the program to both platforms
| Approach | What it does | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Multiple-output encoder | Sends the program from your streaming setup to both platform destinations. | Confirm your encoder supports simultaneous outputs and whether it sends multiple feeds from your connection. Check compatibility with both current platform workflows. |
| Third-party relay | Sends one feed to a relay, which distributes it to YouTube and Twitch. | Confirm compatibility with your encoder and both destinations, the relay’s account requirements, and how it handles delivery. Do not assume a relay reduces every bandwidth or reliability concern. |
The official platform guidance establishes the need to prepare each destination and have sufficient upload capacity, but does not test or rank particular encoder or relay products. Choose based on your existing setup and verify the selected product’s current capabilities directly. If you want to read or respond to chat from both platforms, decide whether you need a combined-chat tool; Twitch says such tools may be used to combine cross-platform activity for personal use.
Configure settings and bandwidth for both outputs
Choose output settings that are supported by your encoder and workable for both destinations and your available upload connection. There is no universal upload-speed figure for simulcasting: the requirement depends on the encoder settings and whether your setup sends separate outbound feeds or one feed to a relay. YouTube emphasizes that sufficient upload speed is critical for high-quality simulstreaming.

- 【1080P HD High Quality】Capture resolution up to 1080p for video source and it is ideal for all HDMI devices such as PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii U, DVDs, DSLR, Camera, Security Camera and set top box. Note: Video input supports 4K30/60Hz and 1080p120/144Hz. Does not support 4K120Hz/144Hz. Output supports up to 2K30Hz.
- 【Plug and Play】No driver or external power supply required, true PnP. Once plugged in, the device is identified automatically as a webcam. Detect input and adjust output automatically. Won't occupy CPU, optional audio capture. No freeze with correct setting.
- 【Compatible with Multiple Systems】suitable for Windows and Mac OS. High speed USB 3.0 technology and superior low latency technology makes it easier for you to transmit live streaming to Twitch, Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, OBS, Potplayer and VLC.
- 【HDMI LOOP-OUT】Based on the high-speed USB 3.0 technology, it can capture one single channel HD HDMI video signal. There is no delay when you are playing game live.
- 【Support Mic-in for Commentary】Rybozen capture card has microphone input and you can use it to add external commentary when playing a game. Please note: it only accepts 3.5mm TRS standard microphone headset.
Do not assume a particular resolution, bitrate, frame rate, or keyframe interval is right for every setup. Check the current recommendations for your chosen encoder and each platform, then test with the actual settings you plan to use. YouTube automatically transcodes incoming streams into multiple output formats, but that does not guarantee a particular result for every viewer or for Twitch. Its encoder settings guidance recommends testing and monitoring.
A wired Ethernet connection can be a practical way to connect the encoder computer to your network, but it is not a platform requirement and cannot increase the upload capacity of your internet service.

Start and monitor the simulcast
- Run a representative test. Use audio and movement similar to the planned program so you can catch issues that a static image or silent test would miss. YouTube recommends testing before a live event; see its streaming tips.
- Start the outputs through your chosen workflow. Start the encoder or relay as required, then verify that YouTube and Twitch are both receiving the program.
- Check YouTube’s preview. Use the YouTube Live Control Room preview to confirm that picture and sound are arriving. Also check the Twitch output itself; a healthy preview on one platform does not prove the other destination is working.
- Monitor while live. Watch picture, audio, and stream health on both services. If a destination fails, check its status and the encoder or relay’s output before changing settings mid-stream.
- End the stream using your setup’s controls. Follow the encoder or relay workflow and confirm the platforms have ended the broadcast as intended. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived.
Follow Twitch’s simulcasting rules
Twitch’s Simulcasting Guidelines FAQ allows simulcasting unless your agreement with Twitch requires exclusivity. Permission to broadcast in parallel does not remove the rules about the Twitch viewing experience or how you address Twitch viewers.
- Keep the Twitch viewing experience at least comparable to the experience on the other destinations; do not intentionally make Twitch’s video quality worse.
- You may identify in your profile that you are also present on other platforms, but do not actively promote another live-streaming service during the Twitch stream or encourage Twitch viewers to leave for the concurrent broadcast. Twitch’s wording is: “Twitch may not be used to drive users to a live stream on another platform or service.”
- Using a tool to combine activity from other platforms, such as chat, for your own use is not itself described as a simulcasting violation.
Troubleshoot common simulcast problems
| Symptom | What to check | Practical fix |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not let you start a live stream | Whether live streaming is enabled, the channel is verified, or there are live-streaming restrictions within the past 90 days. | Enable live streaming and allow for the possible first-activation wait of at least 24 hours; resolve eligibility or restriction issues before the event. |
| A destination does not receive the feed | Whether the encoder or relay has the correct destination settings and whether it supports the configured output. | Recheck the URL and stream key where required, confirm that the destination is enabled, and test again before the event. |
| A stream key may have been exposed | Whether the key was shared or otherwise compromised. | Reset it in YouTube Live Control Room and update the encoder with the replacement key. |
| Video or audio quality is poor or unstable | Whether the selected settings are sustainable for the available upload capacity and whether the issue affects one or both outputs. | Test with representative motion and audio, adjust settings to fit the connection and setup, and monitor both destination feeds. Do not apply a generic bandwidth target without accounting for your routing method and settings. |
| YouTube looks fine but Twitch does not, or vice versa | Each platform’s own receiving status and output, rather than only the encoder’s overall status. | Check each destination independently and inspect the relevant encoder or relay output before changing settings. |
Or let it run in the cloud
