For a prerecorded YouTube channel that should run continuously while your computer is off, start with a cloud playout service—not a conventional live-production studio. StreamNeo is the first option to consider: it loops uploaded videos from the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers the first day free. Gyre and Upstream are also listed by YouTube for 24/7 prerecorded streaming. If you are producing a live camera, gaming, or interview feed, YouTube Studio can remain your destination while an encoder or cloud studio handles production.
The right alternative depends on what “24/7” means for your channel: unattended playback of existing videos, or a continuous feed you are actively producing. Those are different jobs, with different setup, duration, archive, and cost considerations.
Choose the workflow that matches your stream
| Workflow | Best fit | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Cloud 24/7 prerecorded playout | A library of uploaded videos that should loop or play as a continuous YouTube channel, including while your computer is off. | YouTube destination support, storage and playlist controls, maximum run length, restart behavior, archive handling, output quality, and plan cost. |
| YouTube Studio plus a software encoder | A locally generated feed such as gaming, a camera, scenes, or overlays. | Your computer and internet connection must remain available; check encoder compatibility, stream-key handling, settings, and monitoring. |
| YouTube Studio plus a hardware encoder | A camera or production system that should encode independently of a desktop software setup. | Supported inputs and codecs, network protocols, and the physical equipment’s restart process. Hardware is not needed just to loop files from a cloud service. |
| General-purpose cloud studio or multistream service | Guests, interviews, browser-based production, overlays, or distribution to multiple platforms. | Whether unattended looping is supported, each destination’s duration rules, recording limits, and plan caps. |
YouTube’s encoder directory describes Gyre and Upstream as cloud tools for 24/7 prerecorded video streaming. That identifies their intended use; it is not independent testing of stream quality or reliability. YouTube’s encoder directory is a useful starting point for checking that category.

Each slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB of storage per slot (pooled across active slots), playlists and 24/7 looping, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and support from the StreamNeo team.

5. Restream and StreamYard: useful for production, with duration distinctions
Restream says it has no duration cap within its service, but warns that maintenance may restart a continuous stream running for over 24 hours and suggests restarting every 24 hours. Its help page lists destination-side examples: Facebook 8 hours, LinkedIn 4 hours, Twitch 48 hours, and Instagram 1 hour; it says YouTube has no duration limit, while YouTube archives streams under 12 hours. Confirm destination rules before relying on those figures. Restream’s duration guidance distinguishes its own service from destination limits.
StreamYard says paid plans have no StreamYard-side streaming duration limit, but destinations set their own rules. It documents YouTube as having no duration limit while recording only the last 12 hours; recording caps also vary by subscription tier. See StreamYard’s streaming and recording limits. These are general-purpose production services, so confirm that their current controls meet your unattended playback needs.

How to send a live camera or locally produced feed through an encoder
If your stream is generated live—rather than played from uploaded files—YouTube Studio can be the destination while an encoder sends it the feed. YouTube defines an encoder as software or hardware that converts video into a digital format for streaming.
- Confirm channel eligibility. YouTube’s current help page says live streaming requires a verified channel with no live-stream restrictions in the past 90 days, and creators must be at least 16. YouTube also documents a limit of 10 active streams per channel and three per stream key, applied together; a third-party service does not remove those limits. Check YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and setup page.
- Create or schedule the stream in YouTube Studio. Use the Live area in Studio to prepare the broadcast and obtain its server URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: enter it only in the encoder or service that will send your feed, and do not publish or share it.
- Configure the encoder. Enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key. YouTube accepts RTMP/RTMPS and recommends RTMPS. Its documented video codec options include H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1; it recommends constant bitrate encoding and a 2-second keyframe interval, not over 4 seconds. Follow the settings supported by your encoder and the current YouTube encoder settings guidance.
- Set a bitrate your connection can sustain. YouTube’s H.264 recommendations include 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps, 12 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps, 42 Mbps for 4K at 30 fps, and 50 Mbps for 4K at 60 fps. These are encoding recommendations, not universal minimum internet speeds; leave upload headroom so other traffic or connection variation does not destabilize the feed.
- Test motion, sound, and stream health. YouTube recommends testing representative motion and audio before starting, then monitoring stream health during the event. Start the encoder and confirm that Studio is receiving a healthy feed before you share or promote the live page. The exact controls depend on the encoder you choose.
- End the broadcast deliberately. Stop the encoder output when the event is over and check the Live tab in Studio for current, upcoming, and previous streams. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a stream longer than 12 hours will produce one complete archive; plan separate recording or archive handling if you need a full-length copy.
For camera-based work, equipment can range from a webcam, microphone, or headset to multiple cameras, microphones, a mixer, and a hardware encoder. Choose gear for the feed you are actually producing; a dedicated hardware encoder is optional and does not solve the separate problem of cloud-looping a prerecorded library.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

What to compare before committing to a 24/7 service
- Source and destination: Can the service play uploaded files unattended, and does it send to the YouTube channel you need? Do not assume a live-production or multistreaming tool also supports continuous looping.
- Run length and recovery: Check maximum configured duration, scheduled restarts, what happens after a dropped connection, and whether you must intervene. A stated lack of a service-side cap is not the same as a guarantee of uninterrupted operation.
- Playlist and file handling: Confirm storage allowance, supported files, playlist order or shuffle, scheduling, and any conversion requirements.
- Quality and bandwidth: Check available resolution, frame rate, bitrate controls, and whether the provider re-encodes files. For a locally generated feed, compare the encoder’s output settings with the upload capacity available at the streaming location.
- Archives and recordings: Distinguish a continuous broadcast from the saved VOD. YouTube’s automatic archive behavior applies to streams under 12 hours; other platforms may have separate recording caps.
- Eligibility, plans, and total cost: A paid tool does not override YouTube channel eligibility or active-stream limits. Compare the plan required for the exact run, number of streams, storage, billing interval, and any destination-specific restrictions.
YouTube rules still apply to third-party streams
Using an encoder or cloud playout service changes how a feed reaches YouTube; it does not bypass YouTube eligibility, copyright enforcement, or content policies. Make sure you have the rights needed to stream every video, music track, image, and other asset in a playlist, and review YouTube’s current rules before scheduling a continuous channel. A prerecorded stream is still a YouTube live broadcast, not an exemption from platform requirements.
For a practical preflight, use StreamNeo’s copyright safety checklist. To estimate upload time, try its upload-time calculator; to compare ongoing computer and cloud costs, use the cloud vs PC cost calculator.
Or let it run in the cloud
For an unattended prerecorded YouTube channel, StreamNeo’s setup is: upload your video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home. Your uploaded quality streams up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card; the Monthly price is $9.99 per month. Start your free StreamNeo day.
