The disconnect could be caused by an unstable or overloaded connection between your encoder and YouTube Live—not necessarily Oracle Cloud. First establish where the encoder runs, then compare its connection data with YouTube’s stream-health messages at the exact time of a failure. Without that architecture and evidence, the specific cause cannot be identified.
First, identify where the stream is breaking
“Oracle Cloud YouTube livestream” does not establish that the encoder runs on an Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) virtual machine. OBS or another encoder might run locally, on an OCI VM, or on another host. The distinction matters: OCI network controls are relevant only if the stream traffic actually passes through OCI.
Also separate three different symptoms:
- The encoder disconnects or reports dropped frames: investigate delivery from the encoder to YouTube’s ingest server. OBS explains that dropped frames indicate an unstable connection to the remote server or one that cannot keep up with the configured bitrate; the counter identifies a connection problem, not its precise location. - YouTube Live Control Room loses the incoming feed: check the encoder’s outbound connection, the ingest URL and protocol, and YouTube’s stream-health messages.
- The encoder and incoming feed stay healthy, but viewers report interruptions: investigate playback and viewer networks separately. YouTube notes that stream problems can vary with how many viewers report an error and whether they share a network. YouTube: Troubleshoot your YouTube live stream.
Record what you actually see before changing settings. A single dropped-frame report or viewer complaint is not enough to prove that OCI, your ISP, or YouTube is at fault.
Capture evidence during the next interruption
Watch OBS connection statistics and YouTube Live Control Room stream health together. At the time of a failure, note the encoder’s connection state, network-dropped-frame count, output bitrate, exact error message, and the time. Also note YouTube’s health status and any message it displays. OBS’s troubleshooting guidance connects dropped frames and intermittent disconnections with the path between the computer and the remote ingest server; YouTube recommends monitoring stream health and reviewing its messages. - If network-dropped frames rise or bitrate delivery collapses as the disconnect occurs, prioritize the encoder-to-ingest path.
- If the encoder remains connected and YouTube reports a healthy incoming stream while viewers alone report trouble, investigate viewer playback rather than changing OCI firewall rules.
- If the video or audio is already faulty inside the encoder, check source routing and encoder load as well as the network.
Check upload capacity where encoding happens
Run an upload test from the encoder’s actual host and network—not from a different computer or location. Compare sustained upload capacity with the stream’s total configured bitrate, and account for other streams, cloud uploads, backups, VPN overhead, and other users sharing the link. Download speed does not establish that outbound streaming capacity is sufficient.
YouTube recommends leaving 20% bandwidth headroom above the total streamed bitrate. That is YouTube’s recommendation, not a guarantee against interruptions. If sustained upload cannot carry the configured stream with headroom, lower the bitrate and, if needed, the resolution; then repeat a realistic test. Do not choose a bitrate based on a speed test alone or assume that a high headline connection speed guarantees stable delivery.
Verify YouTube’s ingest URL, key, and protocol
- Open the relevant event in YouTube Live Control Room and confirm the stream URL and stream key shown there.
- Check that OBS or your encoder is using that current event’s endpoint and key, rather than an old or different event’s settings.
- Confirm the encoder is using the intended protocol. YouTube recommends RTMPS. For an SSL error, YouTube says to verify that the protocol and server are
rtmps; it gives port 443 as a setting to try if needed. For a connection timeout, check that the URL is correct and the encoder supports RTMPS. YouTube live-stream troubleshooting.
Do not substitute an Oracle Streaming service endpoint or port for the ingest URL YouTube displays. YouTube Live ingest and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Streaming are separate services.

Inspect the network route that actually carries the stream
If OBS or another encoder runs on an OCI VM
Check that the VM has a working outbound internet route. Review the VM’s host firewall, OCI VCN security lists and network security groups, and any VPN or intermediary network on the path. Confirm that your rules allow the outbound traffic required by the encoder’s actual YouTube endpoint and protocol; do not open ports based on unrelated Oracle Streaming documentation.
Oracle documents hanging-connection cases involving Path MTU Discovery and fragment handling on certain VCN-to-on-premises paths. That is worth investigating only if your stream follows a route matching that architecture. Oracle Streaming’s documented connectivity checks discuss ports 443 and 9092 for its own API/SDK and Kafka use cases; those are not universal YouTube Live ingest ports. If the encoder runs on a local computer
Check that host’s network connection, VPN, security software, router, ISP path, and route to YouTube. OBS lists VPN or security software as possible sources of interference. In OBS, keep IP Binding at Default unless you have a specific reason to change it. IPv4-only can be tested as a diagnostic; if it makes no difference, OBS recommends restoring IPv4 and IPv6. YouTube’s listed encoder options include RTMP/RTMPS, H.264/H.265/AV1, and up to 60 fps. It recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval; the interval should not exceed four seconds. YouTube’s bitrate ranges vary by codec, output resolution, and frame rate, so consult its current settings table rather than applying a single bitrate to every stream. If the output looks or sounds wrong inside OBS, inspect the source, audio routing, and encoder CPU load. If local output is healthy but network-drop telemetry worsens, focus on the outbound delivery path instead.
Run a representative test and decide who to contact
Before the next planned broadcast, test with audio and movement similar to the real stream. Monitor OBS connection statistics and YouTube Live Control Room stream health together, and review YouTube’s messages. A static test image or a test under different network conditions may not reveal the same problems as the actual broadcast. YouTube live-stream troubleshooting.
- Upload cannot sustain the stream: reduce the bitrate or resolution, account for competing traffic, and retest. If YouTube’s guidance or the evidence points to an internet-connection problem, contact the ISP.
- RTMPS, SSL, or timeout message: recheck the current YouTube URL, key, protocol, and the encoder’s RTMPS support. Use YouTube’s port 443 suggestion only in the documented SSL-error context.
- OCI-hosted encoder with a suspected route or firewall issue: gather the failure times, encoder logs, route details, relevant OCI network rules, and YouTube health messages for the relevant support team.
- Healthy incoming feed but viewer-only errors: investigate playback and viewer networks rather than treating the symptom as an encoder disconnect.
