Short answer: PRISM Live Studio Mobile is a mobile live-production app, but its official documentation does not confirm that it can play a full local video file as the outgoing YouTube Live stream. The same limitation applies to the reviewed documentation for Streamlabs Mobile and Larix. For a confirmed prerecorded-media workflow, YouTube’s encoder directory describes an optional PlayToStream feature for the AJA HELO Plus hardware encoder; it is not a phone app. If your goal is to keep uploaded recordings looping on YouTube from the cloud rather than produce a one-off phone broadcast, StreamNeo is another option.

What counts as a prerecorded-video alternative?

A mobile streaming app and a prerecorded-video playout system solve different problems. PRISM Live Studio Mobile, Streamlabs Mobile, and Larix are documented for live camera, screen, or encoder streams. A feature for recording video or adding media to a production does not, by itself, establish that an app can take a video file saved on the phone and play it continuously as the live broadcast.

YouTube describes three broad ways to stream: a webcam, a mobile device, or an encoder, which can be software or hardware. Encoder-based streaming uses a YouTube stream URL and key. YouTube’s encoder setup guide lists mobile encoders including PRISM and Larix, but being listed as an encoder does not prove local-file playback.

Options, compared by what is documented

Option Local prerecorded-file playout Device and setup What the official documentation establishes
StreamNeo Yes, for uploaded videos and playlists Cloud service; upload videos and add a YouTube stream key Runs an always-on YouTube stream from the cloud, with looping, playlists, and automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. StreamNeo
AJA HELO Plus with optional PlayToStream Yes, as described in YouTube’s encoder directory Dedicated hardware encoder; verify the exact model, configuration, and feature packaging before purchase YouTube’s directory says optional PlayToStream functionality can schedule prerecorded media and stream it directly to YouTube Live without a computer. YouTube encoder directory
PRISM Live Studio Mobile Not confirmed in the reviewed official documentation Phone app; platform connection or custom RTMP Supports live broadcasting, screen casting, overlays, recording/video creation, and YouTube; these features do not confirm full-length local-file playout. PRISM Mobile · PRISM overview
Streamlabs Mobile Not confirmed in the reviewed official documentation Phone app; YouTube or custom RTMP destination Support documentation describes destinations and adjustable audio/video settings, but not local-file playout. Streamlabs Mobile support
Larix Not confirmed in the reviewed official documentation Mobile encoder workflow YouTube lists Larix among encoder options; the cited material does not establish phone-local video-file playout. YouTube encoder setup

“Not confirmed” means the cited official pages do not establish the capability; it is not a claim that a feature can never exist in a particular app version or configuration. Check the current app documentation before relying on local-file playback for an event.

Which option fits your job?

For uploaded videos that should run continuously

StreamNeo is #1 for this workflow: it keeps uploaded videos or playlists live from the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day. It is for YouTube playback of uploaded videos, not camera-based live production.

For scheduled prerecorded media on dedicated hardware

YouTube’s encoder directory identifies the AJA HELO Plus with optional PlayToStream scheduling as a direct prerecorded-media route. Confirm the exact HELO Plus configuration, current availability, and whether the optional feature is included or must be added before buying. This is a specialized hardware setup, not a phone-only solution.

For a live phone camera or screen broadcast

PRISM is a relevant mobile production alternative if the source is a live camera or screen. Its official pages describe YouTube support, custom RTMP, screen casting, overlays, and recording/video modes. PRISM’s FAQ also says users can connect platform accounts or enter custom RTMP details, and supports 3.5mm, USB, or Bluetooth microphones for live streaming or recording. None of those points confirms playing a complete local recording as the live output. PRISM FAQ

Streamlabs Mobile is another documented route for YouTube or custom RTMP live production, with adjustable audio and video settings, but its reviewed support page likewise does not confirm local-file playout. PRISM’s RTMP Overlay feature receives another device’s RTMP feed as a source or overlay; it should not be mistaken for a phone-local video player. PRISM RTMP Overlay guide

Built-in OSD generator adds scrolling text, logos, or timestamps directly to the video stream — ideal for branding, event info, or security labeling. Backed by a 1-year warranty and 24/7 online technical support.

For an edited one-off video without a live event requirement

If viewers do not need a live broadcast experience, consider uploading the recording as a regular YouTube video instead. That avoids treating a live-production app as a file playout tool. YouTube Premiere may also be worth considering, but its current setup details are not established by the sources cited here.

How to set up a phone-based YouTube live stream

This workflow is for live camera or screen content from a mobile app such as PRISM—not a verified method for playing a local prerecorded file.

Blackmagic Design Streaming Encoder 4K
  • H.264 & H.265 Streaming to SRT or RTMP
  • DCI 4K Streaming up to 60 fps

  1. Check YouTube mobile eligibility. YouTube’s mobile-live requirements page lists at least 50 subscribers, a verified channel, no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and live streaming enabled. These are requirements stated for YouTube’s mobile route; do not assume they apply identically to every encoder setup. Check YouTube’s current mobile live requirements before planning.
  2. Choose the live source in the app. Use the camera or screen-casting workflow if that is what you intend to broadcast. PRISM’s documented production features include overlays and screen casting; a media decoration or recording feature is not proof of full-file playout.
  3. Connect the YouTube destination. Use the app’s supported platform connection or configure a custom RTMP destination where appropriate. For an encoder workflow, YouTube provides the stream URL and stream key in its live setup; follow the current encoder setup instructions.
  4. Prepare and preview before going live. YouTube recommends setting up the encoder in advance, previewing in Live Control Room, checking that a local archive is growing, confirming audience access, and monitoring audio and video. Follow the YouTube livestreaming tips.
  5. Test the complete route. Confirm the selected source, destination, audience visibility, and sound before the real event. A microphone, tripod, or other production accessory can improve a camera-based broadcast, but none supplies prerecorded-file playout.

Why OBS is not a phone-app alternative

OBS Studio is a desktop option, not a native mobile app. The OBS Project says development for mobile devices is outside its current scope and points users toward mobile apps including PRISM Live Studio, Streamlabs Mobile, IRL Pro, and Moblin. OBS Project’s mobile-apps page

A desktop encoder can be part of a do-it-yourself playout setup, but this article’s reviewed sources do not establish a specific OBS local-file configuration or settings for this use. Do not assume that OBS’s ability to handle media sources means the mobile apps named above provide the same workflow.

With StreamNeo, upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not need to stay on. It supports the quality you upload up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Each slot includes 10 GB of storage, pooled across active slots, plus 24/7 looping, playlists, and StreamNeo team support; the product is the same on every plan, with only the billing length changing. See StreamNeo pricing. Start the free first day at StreamNeo signup.

Common decision mistakes

  • Assuming “video” means file playout: product pages may use video to mean recording, overlays, or media elements within a live production. Verify that the app can play a full local file as the outgoing live source.
  • Buying hardware before checking the feature bundle: YouTube describes PlayToStream as optional for the AJA HELO Plus. Confirm configuration, availability, and packaging for the exact unit.
  • Applying mobile requirements to every encoder: the 50-subscriber threshold and other listed conditions belong to YouTube’s mobile-live requirements. Check the relevant current YouTube setup route for your chosen encoder.
  • Treating a successful connection as rights clearance: only stream material you have the rights to use, and review YouTube’s applicable copyright and live-stream policies before broadcasting. The sources cited here do not determine whether any particular recording is cleared.
  • Expecting a phone accessory to solve playout: microphones and tripods can aid live capture, not turn an app into a confirmed prerecorded-file streamer.
