When you end the source stream, YouTube can move viewers to the Premiere; tell them to wait a few seconds for it to load. Autoplay-disabled viewers may need to click Play.
Before you start: check eligibility and prepare the Premiere
YouTube’s Live Redirect feature is available to a sending creator whose channel has more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes, according to the current YouTube Help instructions checked in 2026. If your channel does not meet those requirements, the redirect option may not be available.
- Create or schedule the destination Premiere first. YouTube recommends setting up the Premiere before the livestream that will send viewers to it. You can set a Premiere to start immediately or schedule it for a later date and time. See YouTube’s Premiere setup instructions.
- Make sure the Premiere is the intended destination. A Premiere is a video event watched with the creator and community in real time. Viewers can rewind to an earlier point, but cannot skip ahead of what has played live. After the event, the video remains on the channel as a regular upload, with chat replay available.
Set the livestream’s redirect in YouTube Studio
- Sign in to YouTube Studio and select Content.
- Open the Live tab and find the livestream that will send viewers to the Premiere.
- Open Edit for that livestream.
- Select Customization.
- Under Redirect, select Add, then choose the Premiere you created or scheduled.
- Save the livestream settings if Studio prompts you to do so.
YouTube’s current Live Redirect instructions also cover sending viewers to another channel’s live stream. The steps above are for selecting a Premiere as the destination.
What happens when the livestream ends
When the source livestream ends, YouTube says autoplay moves viewers to the selected Premiere. The transition may take a few seconds, so tell your audience to wait while the page reloads. It is not guaranteed that every viewer will arrive automatically: YouTube’s TeamYouTube announcement says viewers who have autoplay disabled need to click the Play button. You can mention this in the livestream before ending it.

If the destination is another channel’s live stream
This is different from redirecting to a Premiere on your own channel. The receiving channel must allow your channel to redirect viewers to its live stream. Its owner can allow all channels, allow channels based on subscriptions, or manually approve specific channels. The manual approval list supports up to 100 channels, according to YouTube’s current Live Redirect instructions. If the intended live destination does not appear, ask its owner to check the redirect permissions in YouTube Studio.
Troubleshooting
- You cannot find the Redirect option: Check that the sending channel meets the current eligibility requirements—more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes—and that you are editing the source livestream in YouTube Studio.
- The Premiere is not available to select: Confirm that you created or scheduled the Premiere first and are editing the correct livestream.
- Viewers remain on the livestream page: Ask them to wait a few seconds for the destination to load. Viewers with autoplay disabled may have to click Play.
- A different channel’s live stream is missing: The recipient channel may not have granted your channel permission. Ask its owner to review the destination’s redirect settings.
Or let it run in the cloud
Live Redirect is a YouTube Studio setting; it does not require a streaming service. If your documentary channel also needs to keep a pre-recorded video or playlist live around the clock, StreamNeo is a separate YouTube-only cloud service: upload your video, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; uploaded videos stream at their original quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly service is $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
