For an encoder stream, send video to the scheduled event with the correct stream URL and key, wait for the preview in Live Control Room, then click Go live. For a webcam stream, open the scheduled event under Manage and click Go Live.
First, identify how you planned to stream

The scheduled event page and the active broadcast are separate. A scheduled time or viewer reminder does not, by itself, send video from an encoder or launch the event.
Check the likely causes in order
1. Confirm your channel can live stream
YouTube’s live-stream setup guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. It also says a person must be at least 16 to live stream. These are eligibility checks, not proof that eligibility is the cause of a particular launch failure.
2. Open the scheduled event in Live Control Room
In YouTube Studio, find the scheduled stream in the Live tab under upcoming content. Make sure you have opened the intended event rather than a different stream or a general channel page. For a webcam stream, select Manage, choose the scheduled item, and click Go Live.

3. If you use an encoder, verify the destination and stream key
- Open the scheduled event in Live Control Room and locate its stream URL and stream key.
- In your encoder, enter the URL and key for that event. A stream key is the credential and destination pairing that lets YouTube accept the encoder’s feed.
- Start the encoder and check that it is actually sending video.
- Wait for the incoming-stream preview to appear in Live Control Room, then click Go live.
If there is no preview, first check that the encoder is running and that its destination URL and key belong to the scheduled event you opened. A key from another event or an old configuration can leave Studio waiting for a feed.
4. Refresh the key if the encoder reports an error
YouTube recommends copying a stream key from Live Control Room and updating the encoder when the encoder displays an error. If your software connects through a third-party sign-in flow and does not use a stream key, contact that software provider’s support rather than looking for a key field that does not exist.

5. Check connection quality and prepare early
YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours ahead and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time. Use that time to confirm the preview appears and that the event is reachable from your channel and watch pages. YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom; network interruptions can disrupt a live stream.
6. Treat auto-start as a setting, not a guarantee
YouTube’s auto-start and auto-stop options can allow a broadcast to start or stop from the encoder when enabled. The scheduled encoder workflow still calls for starting the encoder, checking the preview, and clicking Go live. Auto-start behavior depends on your selected configuration; enabling it is not a universal fix for a missing feed or an event that has not launched.

If it still will not start
- Studio shows no preview: confirm the encoder is running, sending to the correct event URL and key, and has a working network connection.
- The encoder shows a key or connection error: copy the key from the event’s Live Control Room and replace the encoder’s saved key.
- You are using a sign-in connection without a key: ask the software provider for help with its sign-in workflow.
- The preview appears but the event is not live: check that you clicked Go live in Live Control Room.
- The webcam workflow is stuck: return to Manage, select the correct scheduled stream, and use Go Live.
- The event cannot be launched despite a working setup: check channel verification and live-stream eligibility, including any restrictions in the preceding 90 days.
