Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →To run a YouTube channel through AWS Elemental MediaLive, create and validate the input that will carry your programme feed, then create a MediaLive channel, configure its output for YouTube, and test the complete path before making the stream public. AWS lists MediaLive in Mumbai (ap-south-1) and Hyderabad (ap-south-2); which Region is right depends on the rest of your design, not just MediaLive availability.
This setup involves more than choosing an encoder profile. You need a dependable upstream source, a decision about redundant pipelines, YouTube’s current ingest details, a monitoring plan and a cost estimate based on the actual services and audience. The steps below explain each decision without assuming that one configuration fits every 24/7 channel.
Before you begin: define the feed and the AWS design
Identify the upstream source
MediaLive needs an input from an upstream content source. Before creating it, establish what will send the programme feed: for example, a live camera or programme output, a network stream, or another source. Record the source’s format, protocol, credentials and whether it pushes a feed to AWS or MediaLive connects to a source that it pulls from. Those details determine the appropriate input type and configuration. AWS explains the source-dependent input setup in its MediaLive input guide and describes push and pull inputs in its push and pull input documentation.
Do not assume that uploading a video file to AWS by itself makes it a continuously playing MediaLive source. The intended source system must provide the feed MediaLive is configured to receive; confirm how it will produce and sustain that feed before building the channel.

Choose a Region for the complete workflow
AWS lists MediaLive in Asia Pacific (Mumbai), ap-south-1, and Asia Pacific (Hyderabad), ap-south-2. This only establishes that MediaLive is listed in those Regions. If your design also uses services such as MediaPackage, MediaConnect or CloudFront, check each service’s current regional availability separately. Check your account’s Service Quotas as well; limits are account-specific and may need review or a quota request. See AWS’s MediaLive endpoints and quotas reference.
Choose the MediaLive channel class
Channel class affects both pipeline redundancy and how outputs are delivered. Neither option is automatically right for every 24/7 channel: base the choice on the failure tolerance you need, how your downstream destination is configured, and the resulting cost and operating complexity.
| Channel class | Pipelines | Destinations for each output | When it may fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | Two | Two downstream destinations | Choose it when your architecture is designed to use two pipelines and duplicate downstream destinations for greater resilience. |
| Single-pipeline | One | One downstream destination | Choose it when one pipeline and one destination meet your availability requirements. |
Standard class does not, by itself, guarantee an uninterrupted YouTube broadcast: the source, both output destinations and the downstream setup must also support the intended recovery path. AWS documents the class behavior in its channel class guide.

Create the input, then the channel
- Prepare the source. Confirm its protocol and format, connection details, credentials, and whether it will push to AWS or be pulled by MediaLive. Coordinate any required changes with the system supplying the feed.
- Create the MediaLive input. In the AWS Elemental MediaLive console, create an input matching the source and configure the connection details it requires. Retain the resulting endpoint or connection information securely and make sure the upstream system is configured to use it. AWS requires an input to exist before you create its channel; see Setup: Creating inputs.
- Create the channel. Start the channel creation flow in the MediaLive console after the input exists. Select the appropriate MediaLive role, channel class and input specification, then associate the input you created. AWS’s channel and input setup guide describes these channel-creation choices.
- Save the configuration before starting. Review the input, class, output group and encoding settings together. A channel that is configured but has no valid incoming feed or working YouTube destination is not a tested live service.
Configure a YouTube output
Get the ingest details from YouTube
Use the ingestion address and stream name provided for your YouTube broadcast. YouTube may provide primary and backup RTMPS ingest addresses. Do not substitute sample server addresses or keys from a tutorial. Treat the stream key as a secret: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to the associated broadcast. YouTube documents the ingestion URL and stream-name structure in the LiveStreams API reference.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Add the output group and destination
- In the MediaLive channel configuration, add an RTMP output group for the YouTube destination.
- Enter the applicable YouTube ingestion address and stream name in the destination settings. MediaLive exposes destination URL and stream-name fields; AWS describes them in its Channels API reference.
- If you selected standard class, configure the two downstream destinations required by that design. Confirm that the destinations and YouTube ingest details match the pipeline arrangement you intend to operate.
- Restrict access to the stream key, including in screenshots, logs, shared documents and support messages. If you believe it has been exposed, replace or reset it through YouTube’s controls and update the MediaLive destination.
Set video and audio encoding for YouTube
Configure an output profile that is supported by both the MediaLive output and the source feed. YouTube’s encoder guidance, checked on 2026-10-03, lists RTMP/RTMPS ingest, H.264 video, constant bitrate (CBR), frame rates up to 60 fps, and a recommended two-second keyframe frequency that should not exceed four seconds. These are YouTube recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular source or AWS profile will produce a desired picture. See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions.
| Setting | YouTube guidance | How to apply it |
|---|---|---|
| Protocol | RTMP or RTMPS | Use the protocol configured for the YouTube ingest destination; YouTube recommends encrypted RTMPS ingest. |
| Video codec | H.264 is supported | Select a codec and output profile that MediaLive supports and that match your source and intended output. |
| Rate control | CBR | Configure constant bitrate and check the selected rate against the resolution, frame rate and source. |
| Frame rate | Up to 60 fps | Use a rate appropriate to the source; do not set a higher frame rate than the feed can provide meaningfully. |
| Keyframes | Two-second frequency recommended; no more than four seconds | Set the encoder’s keyframe interval accordingly and verify it in the live test. |
| 1080p at 30 fps, H.264 | 10 Mbps recommended | Treat this as YouTube’s recommendation for this profile, not a universal requirement or an AWS network-capacity guarantee. |
| 1080p at 60 fps, H.264 | 12 Mbps recommended | Check that the source, MediaLive output and the connection feeding AWS can sustain the selected profile. |
Choose the resolution and bitrate for the actual programme source and test them end to end. A higher bitrate cannot restore detail that is absent from the source, and the upstream connection must have sufficient, stable capacity for the feed it sends into AWS.

Test the stream before relying on it
- Start with a representative feed. Include typical audio and moving video rather than testing only a static slate or silent clip.
- Check YouTube’s preview and health messages. Confirm that YouTube receives the correct broadcast, that audio and video are present, and that no ingest or encoder warnings appear.
- Verify the viewer-facing event. Check the live event as a viewer would see it, including the selected visibility and the point at which the programme actually begins.
- Observe sustained operation. Keep monitoring while the stream runs. YouTube recommends testing with representative audio and movement, then checking stream health and messages during the event; consult its encoder guidance.
A short successful test confirms that the current feed and destination can work together; it does not prove that every source interruption or destination failure will recover without operator action. Define who will respond to a failed input, a stopped channel or an unhealthy YouTube ingest, and what checks they should perform.
Plan monitoring, failure response and rights checks
Monitor the whole path
For continuous operation, watch the source feed, MediaLive channel and output state, and YouTube’s stream health rather than relying on a single “running” indicator. Establish an operator response path for source loss, destination problems and other failures. If you choose a two-pipeline design, verify that the downstream destinations are configured to make use of it; redundancy in one part of the path does not automatically make every other part redundant.

Before broadcasting recordings or repeating a programme, confirm that you have the necessary rights for the video, music and other material, and review YouTube’s current rules for live streams and monetization. A technical ability to stream a recording continuously does not establish permission to use it or eligibility for monetization. Keep records of permissions and resolve claims through the appropriate rights holder or YouTube process; do not assume that changing an encoding setting resolves a rights issue. Estimate the recurring AWS cost from your actual design
There is no defensible single monthly price for this channel from the title alone. The bill depends on the selected input and output profile, hours of operation, Region, channel class, supporting services and how much content is delivered to viewers. A two-pipeline architecture has different resource needs from a one-pipeline architecture, and packaging, storage, distribution, logging or other services may add charges if your design uses them.
AWS’s Live Streaming on AWS deployment guide gives a scenario-specific US East (N. Virginia) example with a stated stream profile and viewer/distribution assumptions. It is not an India 24/7 price quote. Build an estimate using current regional prices and the services you will actually deploy; specify the output profile, operating hours, supporting-service mix and expected audience delivery before comparing monthly totals.
- Decide the channel class and output configuration first, since they affect the architecture being priced.
- List every AWS service the workflow will use, and confirm availability in the chosen Region.
- Estimate continuous operating hours and expected viewer traffic or delivery volume using your own assumptions.
- Check current regional pricing and your account’s quotas before launch; revisit the estimate if the profile, audience or service design changes.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded videos playing on YouTube around the clock, StreamNeo is a different option from assembling a MediaLive workflow: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so no computer, OBS or home connection has to stay on. It streams to YouTube only and does not broadcast live camera video.
