You can run a 24/7 devotional playlist from an India-based VPS by having FFmpeg send the video to YouTube Live over RTMPS. First verify that your channel can livestream, confirm you have worldwide rights to every recording, and check that the VPS can sustain the stream’s upload bitrate and data transfer. YouTube’s encoder settings are documented, but a playlist command must be tested with your own FFmpeg build and files; the steps below distinguish YouTube’s requirements from VPS and FFmpeg details you need to validate.

What you need before starting

  • A YouTube channel eligible to livestream. YouTube says the channel must be verified and have no live-stream restrictions in the past 90 days. First-time live streaming can take up to 24 hours to become available, so check access before scheduling a launch. See YouTube Help, “Get started with live streaming.”
  • An India-region VPS that can sustain outbound streaming. Confirm the selected region, CPU and memory limits, sustained outbound bandwidth or transfer allowance, and any acceptable-use restrictions directly with the provider. No particular provider, plan, India-region egress price, or minimum VPS specification is established here.
  • Your video and audio files, plus rights to use them. Confirm that the rights cover worldwide use in a YouTube livestream, including the underlying music and any third-party performances or recordings.
  • FFmpeg installed and tested on the VPS. Check the installed build and test playlist transitions, missing files, process restarts, and network interruptions before relying on it for a continuous broadcast.
  • A separate archive plan if you need reliable replays. A 24/7 YouTube stream is not a dependable way to preserve a complete recording.

Check the rights to every devotional recording

Religious subject matter does not itself make a recording free to rebroadcast. YouTube’s live-stream terms require the provider to hold the necessary worldwide rights for content used on Google services, including applicable music rights from artists, labels, publishers, and other rights participants. Which permissions apply depends on the particular recording, rights holders, territories, and use; this guide cannot determine the licences required for your case. See YouTube’s “Terms of Service” and check permissions with the relevant rights holders before you stream.

YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A match can cause a placeholder to replace the live video, and YouTube may warn the channel to stop using the content. Continued use can interrupt or terminate the stream. Even a licensed track can be interrupted if its rights holder has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. See YouTube Help, “Copyright issues with live streams.” If a rights holder needs to allowlist the channel, arrange that before going live and confirm that the correct channel is covered.

Choose a stream format that your VPS can sustain

YouTube recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval; it says not to exceed four seconds. It lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video, frame rates up to 60 fps, and AAC or MP3 audio. Its recommended advanced audio setting is 128 kbps stereo. For a first setup, use a format your FFmpeg build supports and match the output to the media and the VPS’s sustained upload capacity. See YouTube Help, “Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions”; check that page again before launch because platform recommendations can change.

H.264 output YouTube-recommended video bitrate Practical selection note
240p–720p at 30 fps 4 Mbps Use a resolution and frame rate suited to the source; this bitrate is YouTube’s listed recommendation for that range, not a guarantee of image quality on every file.
720p at 60 fps 6 Mbps Choose 60 fps only if the source benefits from it and the VPS can sustain the resulting upload.
1080p at 30 fps 10 Mbps Check sustained egress with headroom rather than relying on a provider’s peak-speed claim.
1080p at 60 fps 12 Mbps Use only when the source and available upload capacity justify the higher frame rate and bitrate.

These are YouTube’s H.264 recommendations. Its maximum and minimum columns for other codecs should not be read as H.264 targets. The listed video bitrate also does not include audio or network overhead. A 4K source does not require a 4K stream: choose settings for the actual material and the VPS connection you can sustain.

Create the YouTube livestream and protect its stream key

  1. Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to open Live Control Room. Create a stream or select an existing one, then choose the settings that match your intended broadcast.
  2. In the stream’s encoder or streaming settings, copy the server URL and stream key. YouTube provides these to connect an encoder. The key is a credential: keep it private, do not publish it in a script or screenshot, and do not share it with anyone who should not be able to send video to the stream.
  3. Enter the RTMPS server URL and stream key in your FFmpeg streaming setup. Use the encoder settings you selected above and confirm that the output resolution and frame rate are supported by the input material and VPS.
  4. Start FFmpeg and wait for the incoming preview in Live Control Room. Check the preview, audio, and stream health before completing YouTube’s go-live step for the selected stream configuration.
  5. Keep Live Control Room open during the test and monitor stream health after going live. YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement like the planned broadcast, rather than relying only on a static or silent test.

For YouTube’s key and ingest workflow, see YouTube Help, “Set up your encoder for live streaming.” If you expose a key, replace or reset it in Live Control Room before using the stream again.

Configure FFmpeg for a repeating playlist

The playlist side is specific to your files and FFmpeg build. The sources for this guide establish YouTube’s ingest requirements, not a tested FFmpeg concat file, looping option, or command line. Do not treat a generic command copied from elsewhere as validated for your VPS. Build and test the input and repeat strategy against the installed FFmpeg version, then verify that its output meets the YouTube settings you chose.

  1. Put the media on the VPS. Organize the files in a stable directory and make sure the account running FFmpeg can read them. Keep a record of the playlist order and file names.
  2. Choose and test a playlist strategy. Configure FFmpeg to read the files in the intended order and repeat them. Test a complete cycle, including transitions between files; check for pauses, unexpected gaps, missing-file failures, audio-level changes, and mismatched resolution or frame rate.
  3. Set and verify the encoder output. Configure the chosen video and audio codecs, CBR behavior, target resolution and frame rate, bitrate, and two-second keyframe interval. Confirm the actual output with a test stream rather than assuming that input-file properties carry through as intended.
  4. Send the output to YouTube over RTMPS. Use the server URL and private stream key from Live Control Room. Do not place the key in a publicly readable script, repository, log, or support request.
  5. Test failure and recovery behavior. Simulate or safely test a missing playlist file, an FFmpeg exit, a VPS restart, and a brief network interruption. Decide how the process will be restarted and how you will notice a failure; do not assume the stream resumes correctly without checking.
  6. Run a monitored launch. Watch the YouTube preview and health indicators through file transitions and for long enough to catch problems that a short connection test would miss. Keep an independent recording if retaining the program matters.

A 24/7 service also needs ongoing operations: check the playlist when files change, monitor disk space and logs, protect the stream key, and verify the stream after maintenance or a VPS reboot. Those controls depend on the VPS operating system and process manager, which are not specified here.

Plan around YouTube’s archive and DVR limits

Do not assume a continuous broadcast will leave you with a complete YouTube replay. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but “If your live stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours. See YouTube Help, “Archive live streams,” and its live-stream DVR guidance.

Operating choice What it helps with What to plan for
One continuous stream Keeps the channel’s live program continuous without planned session breaks. Over-12-hour archive capture is uncertain, and DVR rewind can be limited or unavailable.
Planned shorter sessions Creates deliberate program boundaries and makes it easier to manage separate broadcasts and replays. Plan the handoff and verify how ending and restarting affects the live experience you want.
Independent recording Gives you a separate copy to preserve or publish if a YouTube archive is missing or incomplete. Requires storage and an additional recording workflow; test that it continues through the playlist as intended.

YouTube recommends keeping a local archive backup. On a VPS, confirm that the chosen recording method has enough available storage and that the saved files are accessible to you; do not confuse a YouTube archive with an independent backup.

Understand monetization before building around it

Technical ability to stream around the clock does not guarantee monetization. YouTube applies its monetization policies to live streams. Its July 15, 2025 policy update renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content” and clarified that repetitive or mass-produced content is ineligible for monetization under the existing policy. A playlist that repeatedly cycles through devotional videos should not be treated as having assured monetization; review YouTube’s current channel monetization policies for your content and channel.

Budget and operational checks for an India VPS

  • Ask the VPS provider about the actual India region offered, sustained outbound bandwidth, recurring transfer limits, overage charges, CPU policy, and whether long-running media streams are permitted. None of those provider-specific terms or prices is established here.
  • Budget for both the VPS and any storage or transfer charges associated with keeping a continuous stream online. Use the selected video and audio bitrate when estimating transfer needs, and leave room for protocol overhead and operational headroom.
  • Test the route from the VPS to YouTube ingest at the intended bitrate. A location in India alone does not establish network performance or uninterrupted delivery.
  • Maintain a fallback plan for a VPS restart, file or disk issue, encoder exit, or YouTube interruption. A VPS provider’s service terms and your own monitoring determine what recovery is available; do not infer a particular uptime level from the VPS category.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is a YouTube playlist that stays live without maintaining a VPS and FFmpeg process, StreamNeo is the simpler cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos to YouTube; it does not broadcast from a camera. Nothing has to stay on at home, and the stream keeps running with your computer off. Any quality up to 4K 60fps streams as uploaded at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers. StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card; the monthly option is $9.99 per month. Start the free first day with StreamNeo.
