No—not in Vimeo’s documented native workflow. Vimeo describes sending a live event to YouTube, not taking a YouTube playlist as the source for a continuous Vimeo stream. YouTube’s playlist loop repeats playback on YouTube; it does not create a live feed for Vimeo.
What Vimeo’s YouTube connection does
Vimeo’s documented options send a live production from Vimeo to YouTube. You can connect a YouTube account directly or configure YouTube as a custom RTMP destination. Either way, the direction is Vimeo to YouTube—not YouTube playlist to Vimeo. See Vimeo’s simulcasting instructions.
YouTube’s playlist loop is a playback control for content viewed on YouTube. Repeating a playlist there does not supply Vimeo with a live stream source. See YouTube’s playlist instructions.
How to send a Vimeo event to YouTube
Option 1: Connect YouTube directly
- In Vimeo, create or open the live event and go to Settings, then Destinations.
- Connect your YouTube account, choose the destination channel, select the YouTube privacy setting, and enable the destination.
- When the Vimeo event goes live, Vimeo simulcasts it to the enabled YouTube destination.
Vimeo documents up to 10 integrated destinations. The help article says simulcasting requires an Advanced or Premium plan, or an Enterprise plan with the Events feature added. Plan packaging can change, so confirm current eligibility with Vimeo before changing plans.

Option 2: Add YouTube as a custom RTMP destination
- In YouTube Live Control Room, obtain the stream URL and stream key for the event.
- In Vimeo, open the event’s Settings and Destinations, then add a custom RTMP destination.
- Enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key, save the destination, and start the Vimeo event.
- If the YouTube event was scheduled, check YouTube Live Control Room: You may need to select Go live there as a separate step.
Vimeo’s overview allows up to 20 custom RTMP destinations. YouTube requires a channel to be verified before it can go live; see YouTube’s live-stream setup guidance.
Livestream Studio route
Vimeo documents a separate YouTube workflow in Livestream Studio: enter YouTube’s stream URL and key in the YouTube provider and select Go Live. Vimeo says the Studio workflow changed as of October 2024. For eligible Advanced or Premium accounts, and Enterprise accounts with Events, Vimeo recommends using its platform simulcasting workflow.
