If you want prerecorded video to stay live on YouTube while your computer is off, a hosted streaming service can run the broadcast from the cloud. You upload or select your video, connect the service to your channel, and configure a loop or playlist; the host handles continuous delivery. This suits documentaries, ambient programming, and other scheduled or repeatable video—not a live camera, interactive event, or production that needs real-time switching.
How hosted 24/7 streaming works
A hosted service takes the place of the computer that would otherwise play video and send an encoded stream to YouTube. You provide prerecorded media, choose or authorize the destination, and set the service’s playback controls. The service then broadcasts from its infrastructure, so your own PC and home internet connection do not have to remain on.
The exact workflow varies: a provider may ask you to upload files and enter a YouTube stream key, or connect through account authorization. Check its current instructions rather than assuming every host uses the same controls or media requirements.
Is a hosted service the right fit?
Choose hosted streaming for prerecorded programming
It is a practical fit for a documentary channel that wants to loop a film or run a planned playlist continuously. YouTube’s verified encoder guidance lists Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 prerecorded video that does not require a camera or dedicated PC. That listing verifies its inclusion in YouTube’s documentation; it is not an uptime guarantee or a ranking.

Use a different workflow for live production
A prerecorded-video host should not be assumed to support a webcam, remote guests, gameplay capture, audience interaction, or multi-camera scene switching. YouTube’s encoder guidance covers encoders used with cameras and microphones for more advanced live production. It also lists CamStreamer for continuous and scheduled in-camera streams; that is a camera-oriented use case, not a substitute for a prerecorded playlist host.
What to check before choosing a service
Compare the operational details that determine whether a host fits your channel. Product descriptions are vendor claims unless independently substantiated; the available information does not establish comparable uptime figures or service-level guarantees.

- Destination: Confirm that the service supports the platform you intend to use. If you need more than one destination, check whether multistreaming is supported and how it works.
- Scheduling and playback: Verify that the controls cover the loop, playlist, or schedule you need.
- Media handling: Check accepted file formats, file-size or duration limits, whether the host converts files, and whether you need to prepare media in advance.
- Continuity and support: Look for documented reconnect behavior, failure notifications, status visibility, support response information, and any contractual uptime terms. Do not treat a general reliability claim as a guarantee.
- Cost and terms: Review current pricing, storage and usage limits, destination charges, cancellation terms, and how the service handles your content and data. Plan details can change, so use the provider’s current terms.
- Controls and access: If several people manage the channel, confirm what team permissions are available and who can change or stop a broadcast.
Set up a hosted stream on YouTube
YouTube-specific requirements apply even when a cloud host handles the broadcast. The official encoder setup uses YouTube Live Control Room and, where required by the encoder workflow, a server URL and stream key. Follow the hosted provider’s current connection method if it uses account authorization or a different setup path.
- Enable live streaming. Confirm that live streaming is enabled for your YouTube channel. YouTube says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
- Prepare the video or playlist. Check the host’s accepted formats and limits, then upload or select the prerecorded media you intend to broadcast.
- Connect the destination. In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select a stream if the provider’s workflow requires it. Supply the YouTube server URL and stream key when requested, or complete the provider’s authorization flow.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it as a credential: do not publish it or share it casually. Follow YouTube and provider instructions if you need to replace or reset it.
- Configure playback and start a test. Set the loop or playlist, start a representative test, and verify the resulting YouTube playback before relying on continuous operation.
- Monitor stream health. Check the host’s status and YouTube’s stream health while testing, and understand how the service reports a failed file or connection.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That is a YouTube rule for streams under that duration, not a general promise about other destinations or longer broadcasts.

Preflight: media, rights, and playback
- Confirm that the selected video plays correctly, including its soundtrack, before scheduling a continuous broadcast.
- Make sure you have the rights needed to rebroadcast all footage, music, and other material in the video.
- Test with representative sound and motion, then view the stream at its YouTube destination to check picture, audio, and playback behavior.
- Check the host’s instructions for what happens if a file ends, becomes unavailable, or the connection to YouTube drops.
- Keep an eye on stream health after launch. Moving delivery off your PC does not remove the need to verify the source and destination workflow.
YouTube says all live content must follow its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service, and it may restrict live-streaming access. Those rules still apply when a third-party service delivers the video.
