To run OBS from a cloud-hosted computer, create or select a YouTube livestream in YouTube Studio, connect OBS to its stream URL and key, configure an encoder profile YouTube supports, then test the full setup before relying on it. The cloud machine must sustain the chosen encoding workload and network upload; neither OBS’s basic system requirements nor YouTube’s ingest settings establish that a particular virtual machine will do so. Also plan a separate archive: YouTube may not capture a livestream that runs longer than 12 hours.
What you need before setting up cloud-hosted OBS
- A cloud VM or hosted workstation you can access remotely, with an operating system and graphics/encoding capabilities suitable for your actual OBS scenes and output. OBS cautions that meeting minimum system requirements does not guarantee that a specific configuration can be streamed; workload depends on encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity. See the OBS system requirements.
- OBS Studio installed on that machine, plus your scenes and media. Check that any media files are accessible from the cloud machine rather than only from your home computer.
- A YouTube channel with livestreaming available and a stream created or selected in YouTube Studio.
- A stable outbound connection from the VM to YouTube’s ingest service with enough sustained capacity for the selected bitrate.
- A plan for restarts, remote access, recording, and archive retention. A cloud session is not automatically fault-tolerant just because it runs away from your home PC.
This setup is about streaming prerecorded video or an OBS scene from a cloud computer; it does not by itself make a camera feed or guarantee uninterrupted operation. The available OBS and YouTube guidance does not validate a particular cloud provider, VM size, GPU, or monthly compute cost, so test the exact machine and workload you intend to use.
Connect OBS to your YouTube livestream
1. Get the stream URL and key
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room. Create a livestream or select the one you intend to use.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream. YouTube describes stream keys as the information that tells the encoder where to send the feed and allows YouTube to accept it. Treat the key as a password: do not publish it, include it in screenshots, or share it with anyone who does not need access.
- Check the stream’s settings for auto-start and auto-stop. YouTube supports these controls, but do not assume they are enabled or behave as you want; confirm the setting in Live Control Room. You can reuse stream settings, including custom stream keys, where appropriate. Read YouTube’s live stream settings guidance.
2. Enter the destination in OBS
- On the cloud machine, open OBS and select Settings > Stream.
- Choose YouTube as the service if it is available in the list, then enter the stream key. If you configure a custom destination instead, use the exact server URL supplied by YouTube and its matching key.
- Select Apply and OK, then confirm the intended scene is active and that its sources are available on the VM.
OBS documents the service, server, and key fields in its overview guide, which also recommends testing scenes and settings before a broadcast.
Choose resolution, frame rate, and bitrate together
Set the OBS output resolution and frame rate to the stream you actually intend to deliver, then use YouTube’s current encoder table for that codec and output mode. Do not take a bitrate recommendation for one resolution or frame rate and assume it applies to another. For H.264, YouTube currently recommends 5 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 6 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. Its settings guidance also recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval. YouTube recommends RTMPS for standard RTMP-family ingest. Consult the full YouTube encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions table for the precise row matching your codec and output.

- 【AMD Ryzen 7330U】 – The Efficiency-Tuned Powerhouse,AMD Ryzen 7330U (Zen 3, SMT, 4C/8T) in KAMRUI P2 mini PC crushes rivals: Intel i3-10110U (2C/4T, 2019) and N95 (4 efficiency cores, no HT, single-channel memory). Vs predecessor Ryzen 3 4300U (4C/4T): ~50% faster single-core, ~46% multi-core, 8MB L3 cache (vs 4MB). Beats both Intel chips hugely in multi-core, making heavy multitasking, coding, data work smooth at just 15W TDP. High-end power in a cool, efficient box.
- 【AMD Radeon Graphics】– Triple 4K Vision & Fluidity,The integrated Radeon Graphics (based on the modern Vega architecture with 6 CUs) is a visual beast, outclassing the iGPU offerings from both AMD's prior generation and Intel. The Intel UHD Graphics (i3-10110U/N95) struggles with single-channel memory and low execution units, crippling its gaming performance and barely handling basic 4K video without stuttering. While the older Radeon Vega 5 (4300U) was decent, our 7330U's Radeon Graphics (6 CUs) pushes the boundaries, delivering higher graphics clock speeds (up to 1.8GHz) and significantly better rendering capabilities. It can drive triple 4K@60Hz displays with zero lag, edit photos/videos.
- 【Generous Storage & Easy Expansion】The KAMRUI Pinova P2 mini desktop computers comes with 16GB LPDDR4X RAM (higher frequency, lower power) for buttery‑smooth multitasking, and a 256GB M.2 SSD for blazing fast boot‑up, quick file transfers, and no more long loading screens. Two USB 3.2 Gen2 Type‑A ports (up to 10Gbps – 21x faster than USB 2.0) make data transfers and device expansion a breeze.
- 【USB 3.2 Gen2 Type‑C: 10Gbps & Versatile Connectivity】The USB 3.2 Gen2 Type‑C port on the KAMRUI P2 small pc supports 10Gbps data transfer speeds and can also output DisplayPort 1.4 video. Together with Gigabit LAN, Wi‑Fi, and Bluetooth, you get a fast, flexible, and productive connected environment – wired or wireless.
- Resolution and frame rate: Choose the intended output in OBS and ensure the VM can encode it without overload.
- Rate control: Use CBR as YouTube recommends for live encoder settings.
- Keyframes: Set the interval to two seconds.
- Bitrate: Match the exact codec/resolution/frame-rate row in YouTube’s table, while keeping the VM’s stable upload capacity above the selected rate.
- Transport: Prefer RTMPS for the standard RTMP-family ingest path, using the destination details YouTube provides.
YouTube says Live Control Room detects encoder settings and transcodes the incoming source into multiple playback formats. That does not eliminate the need to send a stable, correctly configured source.
Validate the cloud machine before depending on it
- Start OBS with the intended scenes and output profile, then start the stream or send the feed for preview.
- In YouTube Live Control Room, wait for the encoder preview and confirm that moving video and audio arrive as expected.
- Check audio levels and listen for missing, distorted, or unintended audio. Watch moving content rather than relying only on a static preview.
- Monitor stream health and OBS status for dropped frames or encoding overload. If you use a backup encoder, test failover before the primary stream is business-critical.
- Run a sustained test using the same scenes, media, resolution, frame rate, and bitrate planned for the real broadcast. Recheck after changing the VM, encoder, or scene complexity.
YouTube recommends setting up encoders in advance and testing backup-encoder failover where redundancy is used; OBS likewise advises testing the configured scenes and settings. See YouTube’s livestreaming tips.

Plan for the 12-hour archive limit
YouTube can automatically archive livestreams shorter than 12 hours. A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, so a single continuous 24/7 broadcast should not be treated as a guaranteed complete YouTube archive. If retaining the full program matters, arrange an independent recording or archive strategy and verify it works in the actual cloud-hosted setup. YouTube’s archive guidance recommends making a local archive backup.

YouTube does not receive the stream
- Recheck the stream key and server URL against the selected Live Control Room stream. A mismatched or stale key can send the encoder to the wrong destination.
- Confirm that OBS is set to the intended YouTube service or custom server and that the stream is active in the correct account and event.
- If the key may have been exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and replace it in OBS. YouTube says a channel owner or manager can reset a compromised key.
Dropped frames or an unstable connection
OBS identifies an unstable path to the ingest server or a bitrate that exceeds stable upload capacity as common causes. Reduce the bitrate if the VM cannot sustain it, using the appropriate YouTube table row as a guide, and investigate network instability on the cloud host’s path to ingest. Network conditions may be outside OBS’s control. See OBS stream connection troubleshooting.

Encoding overload, stutter, or a failed long test
Do not assume that a VM meeting baseline OBS system requirements can handle the chosen stream. Encoding demands change with encoder type, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity. Reduce the workload or test a different cloud configuration, then repeat the full-duration test with the actual scenes. The available documentation does not establish a universally reliable VM size or GPU requirement.
The stream is live but the archive is incomplete or missing
Check how long the continuous broadcast ran. YouTube’s automatic archive may not capture streams exceeding 12 hours. Use an independent recording and retention method if a complete copy is important, and test that recording path separately from the livestream.
