If you started the broadcast in the YouTube mobile app, tap Finish to end it. If a remote encoder or cloud service is sending video to YouTube, use that encoder’s supported mobile controls; YouTube does not provide a universal phone control for an unnamed third-party service. Restarting may also create a new broadcast rather than resume the same one.
First identify where the stream is running
“Cloud-hosted” can describe different setups, and they do not share one stop button. YouTube distinguishes streams created in its mobile app from encoder-based streams, where software or hardware sends video using the channel’s stream key.
- YouTube mobile stream: Your phone is the source, and the stream is controlled in the YouTube app.
- Encoder stream: An encoder sends the video feed to YouTube. The control may be in Live Control Room, the encoder, or both.
- Third-party cloud encoder: A provider runs the encoder remotely. Its dashboard or app—not a general YouTube phone control—determines whether you can stop and restart it from a phone.
Stop a stream started in the YouTube mobile app
- Open the active stream in the YouTube app on the phone that is streaming.
- Tap Finish to end it. YouTube’s mobile instructions describe this as the end-stream control: YouTube Help: Create a live stream on mobile.
This workflow applies to a stream created from the mobile app. It does not explain how to control an encoder running on a separate cloud service.
Stop an encoder-based stream without a PC
For an encoder stream, YouTube’s control guidance separates the broadcast from the incoming video feed. YouTube says that when auto-start and auto-stop are enabled, “you can start or stop streaming from your encoder.” Its encoder guide also describes ending the stream in Live Control Room and stopping the content feed from the encoder.

- Check the encoder settings. In YouTube Studio, open the stream’s settings and check whether auto-start and auto-stop are enabled. YouTube documents these as encoder controls; availability and exact controls can depend on the stream setup. See Manage live stream settings.
- Use the available control point. If the encoder is hosted by a third-party provider, sign in to that provider’s mobile app or browser dashboard and use its stop control, if offered. For an encoder you can operate through YouTube’s Live Control Room, follow its end-stream control and stop the encoder’s video feed. The YouTube-produced Live encoder settings guide covers the encoder workflow.
- Confirm the feed has stopped. Check the encoder or provider dashboard and YouTube’s Live Control Room for the stream’s state. Do not assume that closing the dashboard or browser stops the remote encoder; the service may continue running independently.
If the provider has no mobile controls, YouTube’s general encoder instructions cannot operate that remote encoder for you. Check the provider’s own documentation or support for its mobile workflow.
Restart it from a phone
To restart an encoder hosted remotely, use the provider’s supported mobile controls to start the encoder or its YouTube output again. If the provider does not expose those controls on mobile, there is no universal YouTube action that can restart it: the next step depends on the service running the encoder.

For a stream managed through YouTube and an encoder, check Live Control Room and the encoder before starting again. YouTube’s API documentation says a broadcast automatically ends around a minute after its bound live stream stops sending video. That lifecycle description does not guarantee a restart window or that reconnecting will preserve the same broadcast. See YouTube Live Streaming API: liveBroadcasts.

If your goal is an always-on YouTube channel playing uploaded recordings, StreamNeo runs that playback from the cloud rather than from a PC at home. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, then go live. It plays uploaded videos; it is not a camera-streaming service.
