To keep it running around the clock, the encoder or streaming service must also play and repeat the recordings, stay online, and recover from interruptions. YouTube’s setup instructions explain the connection process, but do not guarantee unattended playlist looping. Plan the stream in sessions shorter than 12 hours if you want YouTube to archive them; streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured.
What a 24/7 prerecorded stream requires
The basic chain is recordings → playback and looping software or service → encoder output → YouTube. YouTube supports software and hardware encoders. The encoder sends video and audio to YouTube using a server URL and stream key; a separate feature in your chosen setup must handle the recording playlist and repeat behavior.
Decide whether you need a single continuous viewing destination, archived sessions, or both. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured. A nominally continuous channel therefore should not rely on one uninterrupted 24/7 session to create a complete archive. Schedule shorter sessions and keep local recording backups when archives matter.
Prepare the channel and recordings
Check live-stream eligibility early
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it and confirm readiness before the church’s intended launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.

Review every recording and its permissions
Before scheduling a Bible study, confirm that the church has the rights it needs for all material in the recording, including music, images, and guest contributions, under the applicable agreements and location. YouTube’s terms require the provider to represent that it has the necessary rights for live content worldwide, including music licensing rights.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. A match may replace the picture with a placeholder, and a stream may be interrupted or terminated if the detected content remains. Even licensed material can be interrupted if the rights owner has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID. If a stream is interrupted despite permission, contact the rights owner about allowlisting. YouTube may also issue a Content ID claim on an archived live stream after it ends. Choose a setup that can run unattended
Pick an encoder or service that can play your recording file formats in the required order and repeat or schedule them. YouTube’s encoder instructions cover connecting and sending the stream, not providing that playback automation. Verify the loop and scheduling feature in the product you choose, and test it with the church’s actual files before relying on it.
- Playback and scheduling: Confirm that it supports your files, playlist order, repeat behavior, and session boundaries.
- Recovery: Consider what happens after a power, network, or software interruption, and whether the setup resumes without someone present.
- Backups and monitoring: Check whether recordings are retained locally, how you can monitor audio and video, and how you will notice a failed feed.
- Compatibility and cost: Check the existing computer, audio chain, and network, then compare total operating cost rather than the encoder alone.
YouTube lists software and hardware encoder options, but does not evaluate them against these church-specific needs. Its encoder setup guidance explains the YouTube connection workflow.

Connect the encoder to YouTube Studio
- Create or schedule the stream: In YouTube Studio, create a live stream using the encoder workflow, or schedule one for a planned session. Follow the current on-screen options for the channel.
- Copy the connection details: Copy the stream URL and stream key displayed for that stream into the encoder’s corresponding fields. Treat the key as a credential: anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Do not publish it or place it in a public document.
- Configure playback: Load the Bible study recordings into the encoder or service’s playlist feature, set the intended order and repeat behavior, and configure session lengths under 12 hours if YouTube archives are needed.
- Preview before going live: Start the encoder’s output and confirm that YouTube Studio receives the expected picture and sound. Check the correct stream and watch-page access before starting the public session.
- Start and end deliberately: Start the live stream through the encoder and YouTube workflow shown for your setup. At the end of each planned session, follow the product’s stopping procedure and confirm the YouTube session has ended before beginning the next one.
YouTube’s encoder instructions describe creating the stream, entering its URL and key, previewing, and starting the feed. Exact labels can change, so use the current YouTube Studio interface.
Plan network capacity, testing, and archives
YouTube recommends about 20% upload-bandwidth headroom beyond the total bitrate of the stream. Treat this as a planning recommendation, not a guarantee: check the actual upload connection and allow for other traffic sharing it. YouTube’s streaming tips also recommend testing and monitoring the full setup.

- Run a test stream and verify playback from both the channel and a mobile view.
- Listen for clean, continuous audio and watch for freezes, dropped frames, or unexpected pauses in the loop.
- Test network or power recovery if the selected setup supports it; confirm what a viewer sees during a failure and how playback resumes.
- Check that local backups are being created and that the church can retrieve them.
- Keep each YouTube session under 12 hours when automatic archiving is important. YouTube warns that longer streams may not be captured, so do not treat the live stream as the only copy of a recording.
