Where to change the rotation
Your broadcast has two separate controls: OBS supplies the video and other visuals sent to YouTube, while YouTube Live Control Room manages the stream setup and metadata. To change the media rotating on screen, work with the OBS source. Use YouTube’s controls separately if you also need to change stream details such as its title or category.
YouTube’s stream settings documentation covers setup and stream-key management; it does not provide a control for editing an OBS media playlist. YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings
Use an OBS VLC Video playlist
OBS documents VLC Video as a source that can play a playlist of media files. The source offers loop and shuffle properties. VLC must be installed for the VLC Video source to appear in OBS; for 64-bit OBS, OBS says to use the matching VLC architecture. See the OBS Media Sources documentation.

Prepare before going live
- Install VLC and confirm it is detected. Install the VLC version whose architecture matches OBS. In OBS, check the source-creation menu for VLC Video. If it is missing, check the VLC installation and architecture before continuing.
- Create the playlist source. In your gaming scene, use the Sources panel’s add control and choose VLC Video. Give the source a recognizable name, then add the local video files you want in its playlist.
- Set the rotation behavior. In the source properties, enable Loop if the playlist should repeat. Enable Shuffle only if you want the file order randomized. Confirm the source fits the intended area of the scene and does not obscure essential gameplay or overlays.
- Test the exact update you plan to make. With a private or otherwise non-public test broadcast, rehearse adding, removing or reordering a file while the source is active. Watch both the OBS preview and the resulting stream. OBS documents playlist support, but does not say that changing an active playlist is invisible or interruption-free.
Update the rotation during the broadcast
Once you have tested the workflow on your setup, make the change in the VLC Video source’s playlist properties in OBS. Add the new media or adjust the list as needed, then verify that the source is still visible and playing in the scene. Do not assume a particular edit will preserve playback without a brief interruption: behavior can depend on the specific edit and configuration.
If a visible change would be disruptive, an operational precaution is to prepare a backup scene or use a brief scene transition while making the edit. These are precautions, not a guarantee of seamless playback. Test the same sequence ahead of the live broadcast.

Keep stream metadata separate
If by “rotation” you mean changing the game shown on screen, that is a content change in OBS. If you mean changing the stream’s title or category, update the relevant stream details in YouTube Live Control Room instead. YouTube’s live streaming getting-started guide covers the platform’s live setup; it does not replace playlist controls in OBS.
Troubleshoot playlist changes
- VLC Video is not available in OBS: Install VLC and check that its architecture matches OBS, including 64-bit VLC for 64-bit OBS.
- A video does not appear in the rotation: Reopen the VLC Video properties and check that the file is in the playlist and that the source is visible in the current scene. Confirm the file plays in VLC.
- The video order changes unexpectedly: Check whether Shuffle is enabled. Turn it off if you want the listed order.
- The rotation ends instead of repeating: Check the Loop setting in the source properties.
- The stream briefly shows a change or interruption during editing: The documentation does not promise seamless active-playlist edits. Use the tested method, or switch to a prepared scene/transition and rehearse before the next broadcast.
- The game or title is wrong on YouTube: Playlist edits affect OBS media, not YouTube stream metadata. Correct the relevant field in Live Control Room.
Optional physical controls
A Stream Deck is not required to edit an OBS playlist. A third-party project called obs-playlist-deck advertises Stream Deck integration, but that describes the project rather than a universal feature of OBS. Check that project’s current instructions and compatibility for your setup before relying on it.
