How to Add a Logo and Ticker to a Prerecorded YouTube Live Stream

Add a logo and ticker in OBS before sending prerecorded video to YouTube Live. Set source layers, connect your stream key, and test the complete composition.

Build the logo and ticker into the video composition before it reaches YouTube. In OBS Studio, add the prerecorded video as a Media Source, place an Image Source logo and a Text Source or Browser Source ticker above it, then connect OBS to YouTube Live with the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio. YouTube’s encoder setup connects the stream; it is not where you compose these overlays.

Prepare the logo and ticker

  • Use a transparent PNG logo if you want the video to show through around it. OBS also supports image formats such as JPG and GIF; transparency depends on the format.
  • Write a concise ticker line and check that it will remain legible at the final video size. Keep it clear of faces, subtitles, captions, and other important imagery.

Build the composition in OBS Studio

  1. Create a scene and add the video. In the Sources panel, add a Media Source and select your recording. OBS supports video files including MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, and WebM. Enable looping only if you want the recording to repeat. Play it in the preview and check its audio.
  2. Add the logo. Add an Image Source, select the logo file, and resize and position it in the scene preview.
  3. Add the ticker. For fixed text, add a Text Source and enter the line; OBS also supports reading text from a file. For a custom layout or scrolling effect, use a Browser Source to display a local page or URL that provides the ticker design. OBS’s source documentation describes Text and Browser Sources but does not provide a built-in scrolling-ticker recipe.
  4. Set the layer order and position. In the Sources list, put the logo and ticker above the video so they render on top. Arrange them in the preview and inspect the full frame at the intended output dimensions. Confirm the ticker is readable and does not cover essential content.
  5. Review the whole scene. Play through the recording and check the overlay placement, ticker wording, and audio together. If the ticker reads from a file or webpage, confirm that its content is available and correct before going live.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live

  1. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select a stream.
  2. In OBS streaming settings, select YouTube if the service is available, or enter YouTube’s stream URL and the matching stream key from Studio.
  3. Keep the stream key private. Start the encoder output and verify the incoming preview in Live Control Room. Begin the broadcast according to the stream setup you selected.
  4. Test for a few minutes before the scheduled start. YouTube and OBS guidance recommend checking the setup; use a test, private, or unlisted workflow appropriate to your channel and verify video, audio, overlays, and ticker content.

Choose a streaming route

Route What it supports Trade-off
StreamNeo — first option for a 24/7 YouTube stream Cloud playback of uploaded videos, with looping and playlists; one flat price per slot for any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps, and the first day is free. It plays uploaded videos to YouTube, not a live camera feed. The provided StreamNeo facts do not establish a logo or ticker overlay feature, so use OBS or another graphics workflow when those overlays are required.
OBS Studio connected to YouTube Combine media, image, text, and browser sources in a scene, then send the composed output to YouTube using the stream URL and key. Your computer and internet connection need to remain available while streaming. A scrolling ticker may require a browser overlay or other graphics design.
OneStream Live Its help guide documents selecting prerecorded video, adding and positioning an image overlay, choosing destinations, and scheduling a broadcast. The cited guide does not establish ticker support. Check current product documentation if a ticker is essential.
YouTube Premiere Not established by the cited setup sources as equivalent to an encoder-fed live broadcast. Check current YouTube documentation before treating a Premiere as the same format as a live encoder stream.

Or let it run in the cloud

StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for looping uploaded videos and playlists. Upload your video, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; each slot streams your upload at its original quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price, and StreamNeo can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. This workflow does not claim to add a logo or ticker; prepare those overlays in your video or encoder if you need them. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start the free day.

Copyright and replay considerations

Before broadcasting, confirm you have the rights to the recording, music, images, and other material in both the video and overlays. A prerecorded video presented as a live stream is still subject to YouTube’s copyright and channel policies. A continuous loop can also affect whether a channel’s overall programming is considered original or repetitive; an overlay does not by itself establish that the underlying content meets YouTube monetization requirements. Review YouTube’s current rules for your channel and content rather than assuming that encoder setup guarantees eligibility.

Archive length to keep in mind

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume the same automatic archive behavior for streams that run longer than 12 hours.

Troubleshooting

  • Logo or ticker is hidden: Check that its source is above the video in the Sources list, then reposition it in the preview.
  • Logo has an unwanted solid background: Use an image format and file that preserve transparency, such as a transparent PNG.
  • Ticker does not scroll: A Text Source displays text but OBS’s cited documentation does not establish a built-in scrolling effect. Use a Browser Source with a page designed for scrolling, or keep the ticker static.
  • Video does not repeat: Open the Media Source properties and enable looping only if you intend the file to replay.
  • YouTube does not receive the OBS stream: Recheck that the stream URL and stream key in OBS match the stream selected in YouTube Studio. Do not share the key.
  • Overlay or text is hard to read: Preview the entire composition at the intended output dimensions; move the ticker away from important content and adjust its size or placement before the broadcast.
  • Audio or video is missing in the preview: Test playback in OBS before going live, checking both the Media Source and the incoming preview in Live Control Room.
