How to Schedule Different Videos on a 24/7 YouTube Livestream

Scheduling a YouTube broadcast does not queue separate videos. Learn how to send a continuous playlist through a local encoder or hosted service.

YouTube lets you schedule a livestream event, but scheduling the event does not queue separate video files for playback. To show different prerecorded videos one after another on one continuous YouTube stream, use an encoder or hosted service to assemble and send the playlist as the live video feed, then connect that feed to the scheduled YouTube broadcast.

What you are scheduling: the broadcast or the playlist?

A scheduled YouTube broadcast sets up the live event—its start time, visibility and other details. It is not a playlist player for separate video files. You need a separate playback workflow that sends a continuous output to YouTube: either a local encoder running on your computer or a hosted playlist service.

YouTube’s Live Streaming API can create and manage broadcast and stream resources, but that does not make it a ready-made consumer tool for playing a queue of videos. See the YouTube Live Streaming API reference for its scope.

Before you schedule the stream

Confirm the channel is eligible

YouTube’s getting-started guidance says livestreaming requires a verified channel with no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days; its general guidance also sets a minimum age of 16 for livestreaming. Check the current requirements and enablement process in YouTube’s live-streaming getting-started guide.

Settle the video order and rights

  • Write down the exact order of videos and decide whether the playlist should repeat. A test run is the safest way to confirm how your chosen workflow handles the end of the queue.
  • Use video and audio you have the rights to stream. A video being prerecorded or already online does not by itself give you permission to rebroadcast it.
  • Choose whether the YouTube event should be public, unlisted or private using the current controls in YouTube Studio.

Plan to check the stream

Before relying on a long or unattended broadcast, verify the playlist order, transitions, audio, visibility and preview. YouTube recommends setting up encoder streams in advance, checking the preview before going live and monitoring audio and video quality. Its live-streaming tips explain those operational checks. No workflow should be treated as guaranteed uninterrupted without verifying its monitoring and recovery behavior.

Option 1: run a playlist through a local encoder

With this approach, playback and stream generation happen on your computer. The encoder sends the output to YouTube, so the computer, encoder and network connection must remain available for the broadcast to continue.

  1. Check eligibility and create the event. In YouTube Studio, use the current Live Control Room workflow to schedule or configure the broadcast. Set its visibility and timing, and make sure you have the correct channel selected.
  2. Prepare a continuous video source. Arrange the prerecorded videos in a playlist-capable local workflow and configure the encoder to send that output. OBS is one possible encoder, and its official help portal covers streaming support. The exact OBS playlist setup depends on the current version and workflow; confirm the steps in current OBS documentation rather than assuming YouTube Studio will sequence the files for you.
  3. Connect the encoder to YouTube. Follow YouTube’s current Live Control Room instructions for the stream and encoder connection. Use the matching stream details and do not expose your stream key; treat it like a password.
  4. Check the preview before going live. Confirm the right playlist is playing, the order is correct, audio is audible, the image looks right and the event has the intended visibility. Watch for gaps or unexpected transitions between files.
  5. Keep the system running and monitor it. The computer must keep playing and encoding, and the network must keep sending the stream. Have a plan to notice interruptions and restore the encoder if playback or the connection stops.

Option 2: use a hosted playlist service

A hosted service runs playlist playback and stream generation on its own infrastructure rather than on your computer. Its plan limits, scheduling controls and recovery behavior are service-specific, so check the current terms before choosing one.

OneStream Live

OneStream Live’s help page describes selecting videos from a device, its own storage or cloud storage, connecting a YouTube channel, entering stream details and scheduling a 24-hour broadcast. The vendor currently says this feature requires its Enterprise plan and allows a stream to run for up to 30 days; those are OneStream’s stated terms, not YouTube-wide limits. Confirm current eligibility and duration with OneStream Live’s 24/7 streaming instructions.

Looping Stream

Looping Stream describes building a playlist and using cloud streaming for continuous YouTube broadcasts. Its service page does not establish comparable plan limits, monitoring or recovery terms, so check those directly before relying on it.

Protocol note: HLS is not a universal encoder checklist

The following constraints apply only if your encoder or service uses HLS ingestion. YouTube’s HLS setup guidance specifies segment durations of 1–4 seconds, TS segment format, no byte-range support, a rolling playlist with at most five outstanding segments, HTTPS POST/PUT, and encryption only through HTTPS. YouTube also says HLS has higher latency than RTMP because it sends video in segments rather than as a continuous stream. If you use RTMP or another ingestion path, do not apply HLS-specific settings automatically.

Troubleshoot common scheduling and playback problems

The broadcast starts, but only one video plays

Likely cause: You scheduled the YouTube event but did not configure a playlist player as the encoder’s live source. Fix: Set up the sequence in your local playback workflow or hosted service, then check the encoder preview before starting the event.

The stream never reaches YouTube

Likely cause: The encoder is not connected to the correct scheduled stream, or its stream details are wrong. Fix: Recheck the Live Control Room connection instructions and the stream details used by the encoder. Keep the stream key private; if you suspect it has been exposed, replace it using YouTube’s current controls and update the encoder or service.

The playlist stops when you leave

Likely cause: A local encoder depends on the computer, playback and internet connection staying active. Fix: Keep those running and monitored, or use a hosted workflow. Do a test run to confirm the behavior of your chosen setup.

  • What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.

There is a gap, unexpected order or missing audio

Likely cause: The playlist or media sequence is configured differently than intended, or a file’s audio or transition behavior differs from the others. Fix: Run through the complete sequence in preview, including transitions and the point where the playlist repeats, if applicable.

An HLS stream is rejected or has excess delay

Likely cause: The HLS segment or playlist settings do not match YouTube’s HLS requirements, or HLS latency is being mistaken for a fault. Fix: Check the HLS-specific constraints above and allow for higher latency than RTMP. They do not apply to every ingestion method.

Or let it run in the cloud
