Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →You can use a spreadsheet to plan a sequence of YouTube livestreams, but YouTube Studio does not document a way to schedule an entire playlist to run as a succession of live broadcasts. Schedule each broadcast separately in Studio, then manage playlist placement separately. For larger schedules, a developer can build custom automation that reads spreadsheet rows and creates broadcasts through the YouTube Live Streaming API.
What a spreadsheet can—and cannot—schedule
Think of the spreadsheet as your event calendar and tracking system, not as a native YouTube scheduler. YouTube Studio’s documented scheduling workflow is for an individual broadcast. Playlist tools separately let you create and manage playlists, add videos, and arrange their order; the documented ordering control is manual drag-and-drop. YouTube’s instructions do not describe scheduling a playlist as a chain of livestreams, though that does not rule out external tools or custom development.
For a documentary channel, a spreadsheet can keep a planned run of premieres or live events organized: one row per broadcast, with its own title, start time, description, privacy setting, intended playlist, and status. Adding a playlist column records where you want the resulting video organized; it does not make YouTube add the broadcast to that playlist automatically.
Set up the schedule spreadsheet
Use one row for each broadcast, and keep the date and time unambiguous. Store the scheduled start as a date and time with its timezone, or use a canonical ISO 8601 datetime if you will send it to the API. These are practical planning fields, not a YouTube-prescribed spreadsheet template.

| Column | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Title | The title for this individual broadcast. |
| Scheduled start | Date and time, including the timezone. For API automation, use an ISO 8601 datetime in the future. |
| Description | The broadcast description you intend to publish. |
| Privacy | The intended privacy status for the event. |
| Playlist | The playlist where you intend to organize the resulting video, if applicable. |
| Status | A working value such as planned, scheduled, needs review, or completed. For API workflows, record the response or error so a failed request is not mistaken for a scheduled event. |
Do not put a stream key in a shared planning sheet. It is sensitive connection information for an encoder; the spreadsheet workflow needs event details, not the key.
Schedule each broadcast manually in YouTube Studio
- Open the scheduling area: in YouTube Studio, choose Create > Go live, then open Manage and choose Schedule stream.
- Start the event: create a new stream or reuse settings from a previous one.
- Enter the event details: set the title, description, privacy, and scheduled start to match the spreadsheet row. Check the timezone and date before saving.
- Record the result: update the row with the scheduled event’s status. You can promote the scheduled event and share its URL; viewers may receive reminders.
- Repeat per row: Studio’s documented flow schedules individual broadcasts, so each event in the spreadsheet needs its own scheduling action.
YouTube’s encoder instructions explain that the stream URL and stream key connect an encoder to YouTube. Keep those connection details in the encoder setup rather than treating them as spreadsheet scheduling fields. See YouTube’s scheduled livestream instructions and its encoder setup guide.

Organize the resulting videos in a playlist
Playlist management is a separate task from scheduling the broadcast. In YouTube Studio, create or select the playlist, set its visibility and arrangement, add the relevant video, and reorder entries as needed. The documented ordering method is manual drag-and-drop. Consult YouTube’s playlist management instructions.
Do not assume that scheduling an event puts it in a playlist. The Live Streaming API creates a broadcast resource; playlist insertion is a separate API operation. If you automate both, implement and verify playlist organization separately rather than relying on the broadcast-creation request to do it.

Automate spreadsheet rows with the YouTube Live Streaming API
A spreadsheet-to-API workflow is possible as custom development, not as a built-in Google Sheets scheduler established by YouTube’s instructions. The API’s liveBroadcasts.insert operation creates an individual broadcast and requires authorization. Its required event fields include snippet.title, snippet.scheduledStartTime, and status.privacyStatus. The start time is an ISO 8601 datetime and must be in the future and within a reliably schedulable range. Review the Live Streaming API documentation before building against it.
- Prepare the data: map spreadsheet columns to the required title, scheduled start time, and privacy status. Validate that dates are future dates and correctly include a timezone.
- Authorize the application: implement the required authorization and confirm that the account and channel have the permissions and streaming eligibility needed for the operation.
- Create one broadcast per row: send a separate authorized
liveBroadcasts.insertrequest for every event. Creating one broadcast does not schedule the other rows. - Check each response: write the result or error back to the spreadsheet. Do not mark a row scheduled just because the request was attempted.
- Handle playlists separately: if the workflow also organizes videos into playlists, use and verify the separate playlist workflow. The cited broadcast operation does not establish automatic playlist assignment.
API automation can reduce repeated data entry, but it adds code, authorization, error handling, and maintenance. Use manual Studio scheduling if you only have a small number of events or do not want to support a custom integration.

Choose between Studio and custom automation
| Approach | Best fit | What you must manage | Playlist handling |
|---|---|---|---|
| YouTube Studio | A manageable number of scheduled broadcasts and a straightforward setup. | Schedule each event individually and keep the spreadsheet status current. | Manage playlist placement separately in Studio. |
| Spreadsheet-to-API automation | Repeated event creation when you can build and maintain an authorized integration. | Authorization, channel permissions and eligibility, date validation, API errors, and response tracking. | Separate from broadcast creation; implement and verify it independently. |
Help viewers follow the schedule
Choose a cadence you can sustain, communicate the schedule to viewers, and tell them when it changes. YouTube’s guidance for live content recommends considering frequency, consistency, content volume, and sustainability. Scheduled event pages can also be shared so viewers can find individual broadcasts and set reminders. See YouTube’s livestream scheduling tips.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded videos looping as a YouTube livestream rather than schedule separate events, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It is YouTube-only and plays uploaded videos; it does not broadcast from a camera. Nothing has to stay on at home, video streams as uploaded at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
