Then check playback quality, Wi-Fi conditions, and the YouTube app or browser. If mobile data works but BSNL does not, that narrows the issue to the home-network or ISP path; it does not by itself prove BSNL is at fault.
Start by narrowing down where the problem occurs
Note the exact error shown, such as “Connection to server lost” or “Playback error. Tap to retry,” and when it happened. YouTube’s official troubleshooting guidance describes general playback errors, not a special BSNL-specific error. The comparison tests below help distinguish a problem with one stream, one device, Wi-Fi, or the broader connection.
- Reload the stream and try another live stream. If only one live stream fails, the issue may be limited to that stream or its delivery at that time. If several fail, continue testing.
- Try YouTube on another device using the same BSNL connection. If that device works, focus first on the original device’s app or browser, extensions, cache, software, and restart.
- Try the same device on another connection, such as mobile data. Be mindful of mobile-data charges. If the stream works there but not on BSNL, the comparison narrows the problem to the home-network/ISP path; it cannot tell you whether the cause is Wi-Fi, the router or ONT, local congestion, routing, or an ISP issue.
- Check whether other services are affected. Problems across several services and devices are useful evidence to share with BSNL.

Check speed and lower playback quality
Run a speed test near the device you are using. For a clearer comparison, test when other household internet use is quiet, and note what happens when the stream fails. Temporarily lower playback quality in YouTube and see whether the error stops. A speed test is only a snapshot; it does not establish connection stability, packet loss, or a route-specific fault.

Check Wi-Fi and other household internet use
- Move closer to the router and reduce obstacles or sources of interference where practical.
- Temporarily pause large downloads or other high-bandwidth activity, then check whether playback improves.
- If both devices have compatible Ethernet ports and a cable is available, compare playback over a wired connection. This is an optional diagnostic test, not a required purchase: it may help separate a Wi-Fi issue from a broadband-path issue, but it cannot fix a fault outside your home network.
YouTube notes that congestion and other factors can cause live-programming issues or delays even when a connection otherwise seems good. Refresh the app or browser before changing network settings
If you watch in a browser
- Reload the page, then close and reopen the browser.
- Update the browser if an update is available.
- Test with extensions disabled, or use a private window. If that resolves the issue, investigate extensions before changing your network configuration.
- Clear cache and cookies if the problem persists and you are comfortable signing in again where needed.
If you watch in the YouTube app or on a TV
- Close and reopen the app.
- Check for YouTube app and device-system updates.
- Restart the device and try the stream again.
Inspect DNS cautiously
If the error continues, inspect the device or network DNS settings and check whether a third-party app changed the preferred DNS servers. YouTube recommends checking DNS configuration, but does not identify a public DNS address as a BSNL-specific fix. The available evidence does not establish that changing DNS, disabling IPv6, changing MTU or router mode, or using a VPN will resolve this problem. Avoid changing router settings as a routine first step; if you do test a setting, change one variable at a time and know how to restore it. YouTube’s video-error guidance covers DNS checks.

When to contact BSNL, and what to provide
Contact BSNL if the issue persists across devices, affects other services too, or remains after the basic comparisons. The official BSNL Contact Us page lists 1800-4444 for Bharat Fiber/landline. The appropriate route can depend on your service and location, so verify that the contact applies to your connection. You can also submit a complaint through the BSNL complaints portal and check it on the BSNL complaint-tracking page.

Give support concrete comparisons rather than only saying that YouTube is slow. Record:
- The exact on-screen error or a screenshot, plus the date and time.
- Your city or area and BSNL service type, such as FTTH/Bharat Fiber or another broadband service.
- Whether one stream or several fail, whether other services are affected, and whether one or several devices are involved.
- Speed-test results, the playback quality selected, and whether the issue is intermittent or associated with busy times.
- Whether Wi-Fi, wired Ethernet, and another connection behave differently.
- Your router or ONT model and any settings you changed, if known.
The available official guidance does not establish a current BSNL-wide YouTube fault or a guaranteed BSNL-specific router, DNS, MTU, or IPv6 fix. Treat those settings as possibilities to investigate, not proven remedies.
