Choose a YouTube setting based on your stream’s resolution, frame rate and codec, then confirm that your actual upload connection can sustain it in a realistic test. For H.264, YouTube recommends 8 Mbps for 720p, 14 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 17 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. These are encoder recommendations—not guarantees about Airtel upload performance.
Recommended YouTube bitrates for common resolutions
YouTube’s published encoder guidance separates minimum bitrates from recommended bitrates. The H.264 values below are in megabits per second (Mbps):
| Resolution and frame rate | Minimum H.264 bitrate | Recommended H.264 bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s published settings for the specified codec, resolution and frame rate, not measured Airtel service speeds. The minimum is not the same as the recommended target. If your connection cannot hold the recommended bitrate consistently, choose a lower resolution or frame rate, or reduce the bitrate and test rather than assuming the minimum will produce a stable, good-looking stream. YouTube Help: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
If your encoder supports AV1 or H.265/HEVC
YouTube gives separate minimum-to-recommended ranges for AV1 and H.265/HEVC. Do not mix these figures with the H.264 table above:

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Resolution and frame rate | AV1 or H.265/HEVC range |
|---|---|
| 720p at 30 or 60 fps | 2–6 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 4–10 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 4–12 Mbps |
Use these values only when your encoder and streaming setup support the selected codec and YouTube accepts it for your stream.
Does an Airtel 40 Mbps plan support 1080p on YouTube?
The plan label alone cannot answer that. Airtel’s Xstream Fiber page advertises tiers including up to 40, 100 and 300 Mbps, and up to 1 Gbps; some offers have geographic availability limits. Those advertised speeds do not state an individual customer’s sustained upload bitrate. Airtel’s broadband explainer also notes that upload speed matters for streaming. Check the upload you actually get rather than treating a plan’s advertised speed—often discussed as a download figure—as proof that a particular live setting will work.

How to choose a bitrate that works on your connection
- Choose the quality target. Decide whether you need 720p or 1080p and whether 30 or 60 fps is important. Higher frame rates can help with fast movement but require a suitable, steady upload.
- Pick the matching codec row. Use the H.264 recommendations if you are streaming in H.264. If using AV1 or H.265/HEVC, use YouTube’s separate ranges for that codec rather than carrying over H.264 figures.
- Measure your upload bitrate. YouTube Help says, “We recommend running a speed test to test your upload bitrate.” A single speed-test result is a useful check, not proof that the same rate will hold throughout a broadcast.
- Test under realistic conditions before the event. YouTube advises, “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” Test with audio and movement similar to the real programme, at the intended resolution, frame rate and bitrate. If other people or devices share the connection, include that normal activity in your test.
- Watch stream health during the broadcast. If the connection struggles, lower the bitrate or move to a lower resolution or frame rate. Recheck stream health after changing settings; do not assume an advertised plan speed will resolve instability.
Encoder settings to check
- Protocol: YouTube supports RTMP/RTMPS and recommends RTMPS.
- Video codec: YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 as supported video codecs. Select a codec supported by your encoder and use the bitrate guidance for that codec.
- Rate control: Use constant bitrate (CBR), as recommended by YouTube.
- Keyframes: Set a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds.
These are YouTube’s published encoder recommendations. Your encoder may label settings differently, so check its documentation if the option names do not match exactly.

Keep a pre-recorded YouTube stream running without a home PC
If your goal is a 24/7 YouTube stream made from uploaded video rather than a camera broadcast, a cloud service can remove the need to keep a computer and home connection running. StreamNeo is one option: upload a recording or create a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops the uploaded video from the cloud and can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. It streams to YouTube only.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo keeps the stream running with your computer off. It plays what you upload as made, up to 4K 60 fps, at one flat price per slot without quality tiers. It includes automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required; it is one free day per account. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month.
