To keep store product videos live on YouTube, use an encoder to send a prepared video feed to YouTube Live. First make sure the channel is eligible to livestream, then create a stream in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, enter its server URL and private stream key in the encoder, preview the feed, and start broadcasting. For prerecorded videos that should keep playing without a computer running at home, a cloud service such as StreamNeo is an alternative; it plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed.
Choose the right kind of product stream
There are two distinct formats. A live demonstration uses a camera or webcam and someone presenting products in real time. A prerecorded product-video channel uses an encoder to assemble authorized footage, graphics, narration, and other segments into a continuous feed. The second format is easier to schedule around a catalog, but it still needs useful, varied content: repeatedly broadcasting the same unchanged footage can create a monetization problem.
For either format, the encoder sends the video and audio to YouTube Live. YouTube’s setup supports software and hardware encoders; it does not require a particular brand or model. A webcam is relevant if you need to film a live demonstration, but it is not required for prerecorded footage. A hardware encoder may suit a more involved installation, but should not be treated as a universal requirement.
Check channel eligibility before building the setup
- The channel must be verified and must not have live-streaming restrictions within the previous 90 days.
- YouTube’s general live-streaming guidance says the streamer must be at least 16.
- Check the channel’s current eligibility in YouTube Studio before scheduling a launch. Eligibility and feature availability can change.
- Use footage, music, product images, logos, and narration that you have permission to broadcast. Store ownership of a product does not automatically grant rights to every image, soundtrack, or brand asset used to promote it.
Set up YouTube Live with an encoder
- Prepare the content and source. For a live demonstration, connect the camera and microphone to the encoder. For a prerecorded feed, build a sequence of authorized product clips, graphics, and narration in the encoder. Test with representative movement and audio rather than a static screen alone.
- Create or schedule the stream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. Choose a title and other stream details that accurately describe the products and content.
- Copy the connection details. Copy the stream server URL and stream key from YouTube into the corresponding encoder fields. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, include it in a recording, or share it with people who do not need access. Reset it if you think it has been exposed.
- Choose a resolution, frame rate, and bitrate your connection can sustain. YouTube publishes ingestion bitrate recommendations by resolution and frame rate. For H.264, its table recommends 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 14 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. These are YouTube’s recommended incoming bitrates, not a guarantee that a particular internet connection can sustain them. Check your actual upload capacity under load and leave headroom for stability.
- Set the remaining encoder options using YouTube’s current guidance. Match the encoder’s output to the selected stream resolution and frame rate, and use the current YouTube-compatible codec and keyframe settings available in the encoder. The exact control names depend on the encoder; do not assume one configuration fits every device.
- Preview before going live. Start the encoder’s output, wait for the incoming signal in Live Control Room, and inspect picture, sound, framing, and stream health. If the preview is wrong or the signal is unstable, correct it before you make the stream public.
- Start and monitor the broadcast. Go live from the encoder and monitor Live Control Room for stream-health warnings. Keep a local recording if you need an archive or a recovery copy.
For a product catalog, organize the feed into distinct demonstrations, comparisons, setup guides, answers to common questions, or feature explanations. That makes the stream more useful to shoppers and helps avoid turning the channel into a loop of identical material.

Plan sessions and archives instead of trusting one endless broadcast
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams that exceed 12 hours may not be captured at all. If a complete YouTube replay matters, schedule sessions shorter than 12 hours and record locally as a backup. A single endless broadcast is not a reliable assumption for producing one complete archive, and the available guidance does not define a guaranteed seamless handoff between sessions.
Decide in advance whether you value a continuous public feed, a complete replay, or both. If the archive matters, use planned sessions and local recordings; if you restart or overlap sessions for continuity, test that operating plan before relying on it.

Can you tag products during a YouTube livestream?
Tag products from your own store
YouTube Shopping can let eligible creators show products from a connected store and tag them in livestreams. The documented Shopify connection has requirements that include an eligible country, monetization approval, channel access, and matching accounts. Check the current eligibility and connection flow in YouTube Studio and your store account rather than assuming that every merchant or country qualifies.
Shopify’s documentation says eligible U.S. merchants may offer in-app checkout; customers outside the U.S. are redirected to the merchant’s online store. Country coverage and available features can change. Product tagging is an optional layer on top of the livestream setup, not a substitute for sending a working encoder signal.

Tag products from other brands
YouTube also supports eligible creators tagging products from other brands on videos, Shorts, and livestreams. Tag only products that are relevant and meaningfully featured, and follow applicable rights and paid-promotion disclosure rules. YouTube says tags can be suppressed for some content and monetization states, so a tag should not be treated as guaranteed to appear.
On August 27, 2026, YouTube General Manager and Vice President for Shopping Travis Katz announced, “Amazon is officially part of the YouTube Shopping Affiliate Program!” The announcement concerns eligible U.S. creators tagging Amazon products in Shorts, long-form videos, and livestreams. It does not establish that every creator qualifies or specify commission rates, cookie windows, or the availability of a particular product; confirm access and terms in the applicable account or program.

Build useful variety into the feed
YouTube’s July 15, 2025 policy notice renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content” to clarify that repetitive or mass-produced content is ineligible under the existing policy. The guidance allows similar series when each video materially varies and offers creative, educational, or other value. That is policy guidance, not a prediction of how YouTube will review a particular channel.
- Give each segment a distinct purpose, such as showing a product feature, comparing two options, demonstrating setup, or answering a shopper question.
- Update clips when product specifications, availability, or instructions change.
- Avoid relying on one unchanged loop as a monetization strategy.
- Use only footage and audio you are allowed to broadcast, and make any required promotion disclosures clear.
What can earn revenue—and what is not guaranteed
For eligible channels, YouTube lists ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and channel memberships as live monetization options. Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve, so treat these features as possible sources rather than a revenue forecast. Product tagging and affiliate participation are also subject to eligibility and program terms; neither guarantees views, sales, or commissions.

Choose between a self-run encoder and cloud playback
For an ongoing feed, the main choice is whether to operate the encoder yourself or let a cloud service play uploaded videos. These approaches solve different problems: an encoder can carry a live camera and a custom production; a prerecorded-video service can keep an uploaded playlist running without leaving a computer on at home.
| Option | Best fit | What to account for |
|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo, a cloud option to consider first for uploaded-video playback | A prerecorded product-video feed that should continue while your local computer is off. | It streams uploaded videos to YouTube; it does not go live from a camera. Set up product tagging and other YouTube Shopping features separately if eligible. |
| Software encoder on a computer | A camera-led demonstration or a production that needs flexible local inputs and control. | The computer, encoder, and internet connection must remain available for the broadcast. Plan for monitoring, restarts, power, and a local recording if needed. |
| Hardware encoder | A higher-production installation with dedicated encoding hardware. | It is one possible setup, not a platform requirement. Compare inputs, remote restart and alert options, redundancy, heat, power use, and operator support needs before choosing. |
Or let it run in the cloud
For prerecorded product videos, StreamNeo keeps a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos or a playlist. Upload your video, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The computer and home connection do not have to stay on, and the service can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a camera, and it does not replace YouTube Shopping eligibility or product-tag setup.
