How to Stream a YouTube Live Product Showcase from a Playlist

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To stream a product showcase made from prerecorded clips, queue the local video files in OBS Studio using its VLC Video source, send the OBS output to a scheduled YouTube Live broadcast, and start the event from YouTube Live Control Room after checking the preview. A YouTube playlist page does not itself become a live broadcast: YouTube needs an incoming feed from an encoder.

Before you build the showcase

Check that the channel can go live

YouTube says a channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and be operated by someone at least 16 years old to live stream. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.

Prepare clips and confirm permissions

Gather the product videos in the order you want to show them. Make sure you have permission to stream every video, image, music track, and other asset in the program. YouTube’s live settings documentation includes rights-management information, but whether you have rights to a particular asset depends on your own permissions and licenses.

Decide whether the showcase should play once or repeat, and whether you will add a live presenter, microphone, camera, or graphics. Test the full sequence and check that audio levels are consistent between clips before the event.

Build a playlist scene in OBS

  1. Install VLC if needed. OBS’s VLC Video source requires VLC to be installed. Match the architecture: with 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC. If VLC Video is missing from the source menu, check this installation and architecture first.
  2. Create or select a scene. In OBS, use a scene for the layout of the showcase. Scenes are assembled from sources such as video, audio, and graphics.
  3. Add the playlist source. In the Sources panel, add a VLC Video source and load the local clip files in the intended sequence. For a single video, OBS’s built-in Media Source is another option; VLC Video supports multiple playlist items.
  4. Set playback behavior. Leave Shuffle Playlist off for a product demonstration that must follow a planned order. Enable Loop Playlist if the showcase should repeat. OBS documents Loop Playlist as on by default and Shuffle Playlist as off by default, but verify the source settings before going live.
  5. Add optional live elements. Add a microphone or camera source only if a presenter will speak or appear during the showcase. Check the mix and transitions by playing the complete playlist in OBS.

See OBS’s Media Sources guide for VLC Video and Media Source settings, and its Sources guide for how sources build a scene.

Schedule the YouTube broadcast and connect OBS

  1. Schedule the event. In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go Live, choose Manage, then Schedule Stream. Add the title, description, thumbnail, visibility, and other event details. Scheduling creates a watch page to share and may let viewers opt into reminders. You can choose public, private, or unlisted visibility.
  2. Copy the encoder details. In Live Control Room, obtain the stream URL and stream key for the event. In OBS, open its stream settings and enter those details to connect the encoder to YouTube.
  3. Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password: it lets an encoder send a feed to your YouTube broadcast. Do not share it publicly. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update OBS with the replacement.
  4. Start OBS and check the preview. Start streaming from OBS, then wait for the feed to appear in Live Control Room. Confirm the correct clips, picture, and sound are reaching YouTube before using the broadcast’s Go Live control.
  5. Start and end the event deliberately. For a scheduled encoder stream, click Go Live in Live Control Room once the preview is right. To finish, click End Stream in YouTube and stop sending from OBS. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived.

For the current encoder setup flow, see YouTube’s encoder instructions and live stream settings.

Test timing, latency, and viewing

YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours before an event and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start. Use the time to check the Live Control Room preview, monitor audio and video, and open the watch page on the devices your audience is likely to use. YouTube’s live-streaming tips say expensive equipment is not required to get started.

Choose latency and DVR settings for the event. Lower latency can reduce the delay between the presenter and viewers, but may increase buffering. DVR allows viewers to pause and resume; that can be useful for a showcase people may want to revisit while it is live. Prefer the setting that fits the balance you need between interaction and smooth playback.

Troubleshoot common problems

  • VLC Video is not available in OBS: Install VLC and confirm its architecture matches OBS. Restart OBS after installing if the source still does not appear.
  • YouTube is not receiving the OBS feed: Recheck the stream URL and key in OBS against the current values in Live Control Room. If the encoder reports an error, YouTube’s stream troubleshooting guidance recommends getting a current key and updating the encoder.
  • The scheduled stream has no preview: Starting the scheduled event and sending the encoder feed are separate actions. Start OBS, wait for YouTube’s preview, then use Go Live in Live Control Room.
  • Clips have uneven sound: Review the levels in OBS and listen through the entire playlist before the event. Monitor audio and video quality while the stream is running.
  • The playlist plays in the wrong order or stops too soon: Check that files are listed in the intended sequence, Shuffle Playlist is off, and Loop Playlist matches the planned run.

Or let it run in the cloud

If the showcase should keep playing without leaving a computer and home connection on, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos as a continuous YouTube stream from the cloud. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It keeps the stream running if your computer is off and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.

Each slot streams your uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price, with no re-encode or quality tiers. The first day is free with no card. The monthly option is $9.99 per month.
