There is no single best cloud server for every 24/7 meditation stream: the right choice depends on whether the server must encode video in real time, the stream’s bitrate, and the provider’s monthly outbound-transfer allowance. Amazon Lightsail is a documented VPS candidate, but its Mumbai-region transfer allowance is half the standard allowance in its general bundle table, so size it against your actual stream before choosing a plan. Choose the architecture before choosing a server
A cloud server sending a live feed to YouTube uploads to YouTube’s ingest service. YouTube then transcodes the incoming stream into formats for viewers’ devices and connections; the VPS does not serve the audience directly in this arrangement. That means an India-based audience does not, by itself, require an India-based encoder. Choose a server region for a reliable route to YouTube’s ingest endpoint and convenient administration, then test the connection.

Why a VPS plan’s transfer allowance matters
A continuous stream sends data upstream all month. Estimate transfer from the bitrate you intend to send, then leave headroom and check how the provider counts traffic. For example, at 10 Mbps, a continuous feed uses roughly 3.24 TB over 30 days before protocol overhead or other traffic. Treat that as a planning calculation, not a provider bill estimate.
Amazon Lightsail bundles combine compute, RAM, SSD storage, and transfer. Its current general Linux public-IPv4 listing includes a $24 USD/month bundle with 2 vCPUs, 4 GB RAM, 80 GB SSD, and 4 TB transfer. AWS says Mumbai plans include half the general transfer allowance; both inbound and outbound instance transfer count toward the allowance, and excess outbound transfer may incur charges. Size compute for the actual video workload
Relaying already encoded media
If the video is already encoded and the server only loops or relays it, it generally needs less CPU than real-time transcoding. Confirm the software’s requirements, storage needs, and ability to keep the process running through interruptions.
Encoding or transcoding in real time
Real-time encoding consumes CPU continuously, and the required headroom depends on resolution, frame rate, codec, and encoder settings. AWS says Lightsail is not intended for highly configurable environments or consistently high CPU performance, including video encoding, and recommends EC2 for those needs. Do not assume a bundle will handle a particular encoding workload without validating it. Read the Lightsail instance guidance.

Configure YouTube ingest reliably
- Use RTMPS where your encoder supports it. YouTube recommends RTMPS, an encrypted extension of RTMP. Use the ingest URL and stream key shown in YouTube Studio; keep the key private and do not put it in public scripts, screenshots, or shared logs. YouTube’s RTMPS guide.
- Set constant bitrate (CBR). YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends CBR and a two-second keyframe interval, with a maximum interval of four seconds. Match the selected encoder’s settings to the current guidance for the codec and resolution. Check YouTube’s current encoder settings and bitrate table.
- Choose a supported codec and audio format. YouTube’s guidance lists H.264, H.265, and AV1 video, and AAC or MP3 audio. Compatibility depends on the encoder and workflow, so check the current settings page before configuring production.
- Use bitrate guidance as a starting point, not a universal minimum. YouTube’s H.264 table lists 4 Mbps for 240p–720p at 30 fps and 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps. These are guidance values for the stated codec, resolution range, and frame rate; they are not guarantees of quality or minimums for every meditation stream. Recheck the current table when choosing your settings.
- Watch YouTube’s stream-health status. A process can appear active on the server while YouTube is not receiving a healthy feed. Monitor the live control room and your encoder or relay, and set alerts for disconnects if your software supports them.
Build restart and recovery into a 24/7 setup
A persistent process is not the same as an always-recovering service. Plan for a lost network connection, a server reboot, an encoder crash, and an interrupted YouTube ingest session. Use process supervision or an equivalent restart mechanism, configure startup after reboot, and verify recovery by testing a controlled interruption before relying on the channel.
Managed services also have limits to account for: Google Cloud’s Live Stream API documentation says a channel session lasts 24 hours after start and may need restarting if it remains in a streaming state. When a larger AWS video stack makes sense
AWS documents a 24/7 live-channel architecture using MediaLive and CloudFront, with packaging or origin components where needed. That architecture is for a fuller live-video delivery workflow. If YouTube is the destination and YouTube handles viewer delivery, a VPS sending an encoder feed may involve less infrastructure. Compare the complete service design and metered costs rather than treating CloudFront delivery as a requirement for a YouTube stream. Read AWS’s CloudFront video streaming guide.
Cost-check a Lightsail candidate
The published general Linux public-IPv4 Lightsail listing is $24 USD/month for 2 vCPUs, 4 GB RAM, 80 GB SSD, and 4 TB transfer. It is a listing, not a final-bill guarantee; Mumbai’s allowance is half the general figure. Include any excess transfer, storage, taxes, and other applicable charges in your comparison, and check current regional plan details before committing. No performance test establishes that this bundle is suitable for a particular stream.
