The laptop, encoder and internet connection must keep working for the stream to stay live. Just as important, every track must be cleared for continuous public livestreaming—and any archived replay you intend to keep.
Before you start: check channel access and music rights
Confirm that YouTube lets the channel livestream
YouTube’s general eligibility guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. Check the channel’s access before building a long-running program. YouTube’s live-streaming help
Clear every recording for the way you will use it
Make an inventory of each recording and composition in the playlist. Confirm in writing that the relevant permission covers a public YouTube livestream, the channel’s intended geography, and any retained replay. Buying a track or finding it described as “royalty free” does not by itself establish that these uses are allowed; the license terms determine the scope.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. A match can replace the video image, interrupt the broadcast or terminate it. Even if you have a license, YouTube says to ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist: YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams. Keep permissions and any allowlisting confirmation accessible while the channel runs.

Build the spa program and visual
Use streaming software (an encoder) to send a video-and-audio program to YouTube. The visual can be a still image or a slowly moving spa scene; the audio can be a playlist or loop. Configure the encoder to repeat only media you have permission to use. The exact loop controls depend on the software you choose, so test the full sequence rather than assuming a playlist will restart cleanly.
Check that the audio is continuous and at a consistent level, that the visual does not freeze unintentionally, and that the program behaves as intended when it reaches the end of its playlist. If a specific image, recording or video is included, clear that material as well.

Create a YouTube stream and connect the laptop
- Open YouTube Studio and create or schedule a livestream. In Live Control Room, set up the broadcast and choose the encoder workflow. YouTube’s setup guide walks through creating the stream: Set up a live stream with an encoder.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key. Enter them in the encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the key like a password: do not show it on screen, publish it or share it. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Start the encoder and wait for YouTube’s preview. Confirm that Live Control Room receives the picture and sound. Check stream health and listen to the audio before beginning the public broadcast.
- Start the broadcast in Live Control Room if the selected workflow requires it. Follow the status shown there; sending data from the encoder and starting the YouTube broadcast are related but distinct parts of the workflow.
Keep the Live Control Room open during initial testing so you can see whether YouTube is receiving a stable signal. YouTube’s guide covers the setup sequence and control-room workflow: YouTube encoder setup.
Choose settings the laptop and upload connection can sustain
Use a test stream to find a stable combination of resolution, frame rate and bitrate. YouTube’s current general encoder guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), AAC or MP3 audio, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval, with a maximum of four seconds. For H.264 at 1080p30, its recommended video bitrate range is 5–14 Mbps. These are YouTube recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular laptop or internet connection can sustain them. For mostly static spa imagery, a lower resolution or frame rate may be adequate, but choose based on a real test and the quality you want viewers to receive. Make the test resemble the actual stream, including its audio and visual content.
YouTube advises keeping the total stream bitrate below the available upload capacity and recommends leaving 20% headroom. Measure upload speed rather than relying on download speed, account for other people and devices using the connection, and check stream health during operation. A wired Ethernet connection can be useful when available, but it cannot fix an unreliable internet provider or a congested network. See YouTube’s streaming tips.

Keep the stream running—and plan who responds if it stops
A laptop-hosted 24/7 stream depends on the laptop’s power, cooling and encoder, as well as the local network and internet connection. YouTube advises using a reliable connection, keeping bandwidth available and monitoring the stream; it does not certify a laptop for continuous operation. Decide who will check the stream and what to do if the signal drops. Test your actual setup before relying on it overnight or unattended.
- Keep the laptop connected to reliable power and make sure its cooling is unobstructed.
- Reduce avoidable upload demand from other devices or applications during the broadcast.
- Monitor stream health and check that both audio and video remain present.
- Plan how you will restart the encoder and resume the broadcast if the laptop, software or connection fails.
A laptop with no suitable network port can use a compatible USB-C Ethernet adapter if its specifications support one. It is optional, not a YouTube requirement, and does not resolve an unstable ISP connection.

Know what happens to a 24/7 replay
Do not assume YouTube will preserve a complete archive of a continuous feed. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. It recommends recording a local backup. If a complete replay matters, plan a separate local recording or publish shorter sessions; recordings of music still need the appropriate rights. See YouTube’s live-stream archiving guidance.
Alternative ways to keep the channel live
The laptop method gives you direct access to the encoder and local media, but makes the broadcast dependent on equipment and connectivity at home. A remote server or cloud playout shifts that dependence to the host or service and its configuration. Compare options by who handles restarts, monitoring and alerts; how you manage the media and stream key; whether scheduled breaks are supported; and the total operating cost. YouTube’s encoder guidance does not establish which model has better uptime, and vendor descriptions are not independent performance tests.
