Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor a 4K/60 YouTube Live stream, set the video bitrate according to your ingest codec: YouTube recommends 35 Mbps for AV1 or H.265/HEVC, or 50 Mbps for H.264. Use CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, and RTMPS where available. These are YouTube’s ingest recommendations, not a guarantee that your encoder or connection can hold the stream; test with representative motion and audio before going live.
Recommended 4K/60 settings at a glance
| Setting | YouTube guidance |
|---|---|
| Resolution and frame rate | 3840 Ă— 2160 at 60 fps |
| Video codec | AV1, H.265 (HEVC), or H.264 over RTMP/RTMPS |
| Video bitrate | AV1 or H.265: 35 Mbps recommended, 10 Mbps minimum. H.264: 50 Mbps recommended, 14 Mbps minimum. |
| Rate control | CBR |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds |
| Connection protocol | RTMPS recommended |
| Latency | Normal latency; low latency is unavailable at 4K/2160 |
These figures are YouTube’s encoder ingest guidance. The minimum is not the recommended target, and neither value guarantees a stable broadcast. YouTube advises choosing a quality your internet connection can reliably sustain and testing your upload bitrate. The guidance does not specify a universal upload-speed margin above the selected video bitrate. See YouTube’s live encoder settings.
Choose a codec and bitrate
AV1 or H.265/HEVC
For 4K at 60 fps, YouTube lists 35 Mbps as the recommended video bitrate and 10 Mbps as the minimum for either AV1 or H.265/HEVC. Use one of these only if your encoder supports it and can produce a reliable output at the chosen settings.
H.264
For H.264 at the same resolution and frame rate, YouTube lists 50 Mbps recommended and 14 Mbps minimum. The higher recommended figure reflects YouTube’s codec-specific guidance; do not apply the AV1/HEVC bitrate recommendation to an H.264 stream.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
HDR versus SDR
For SDR, YouTube recommends Rec. 709 color and 8-bit depth. For HDR, its guidance specifies H.265/HEVC and 10-bit depth; AV1 is not supported for HDR in this guidance. If sending AV1 at 3840 Ă— 2160 or above, configure at least two tile columns.
Set the encoder’s video options
- Scan and pixels: progressive scan and square pixel aspect ratio.
- Rate control: constant bitrate (CBR).
- Keyframes: set a two-second interval. YouTube recommends two seconds and says not to exceed four seconds.
- Codec options: YouTube’s recommended advanced settings include two B-frames, one reference frame, and CABAC entropy coding.
- Color: for SDR, use Rec. 709 and 8-bit depth. For HDR, use H.265/HEVC and 10-bit depth.
Encoder menus use different names and may not expose every advanced option. Match the values that your encoder supports; do not assume a setting is active merely because it appears in a preset name.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Configure audio
YouTube lists AAC or MP3 audio. Its recommended sample rate is 44.1 kHz for stereo and 48 kHz for 5.1 surround. Recommended audio bitrates are 128 Kbps for stereo and 384 Kbps for 5.1. With RTMP/RTMPS, 5.1 audio is supported only with AAC.
Test before the broadcast
- Set up a test stream: apply the intended resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, audio, and keyframe interval before the event.
- Test representative material: include movement and audio similar to what viewers will see. A static test image does not exercise the same conditions as moving footage.
- Check upload capacity and stability: test the bitrate your stream will send. YouTube does not publish one universal upload-speed headroom figure for this setting, so assess whether your connection sustains the chosen output rather than relying on an invented fixed margin.
- Watch stream health: monitor YouTube’s stream-health status and messages during the test and the live event; address warnings before the main broadcast when possible.
YouTube explicitly advises: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” For 4K/2160, choose normal latency because the low-latency option is unavailable.

Troubleshoot common 4K/60 problems
Stream health reports unstable or insufficient bitrate
Check the encoder’s actual output bitrate and whether the connection can sustain it. Confirm the codec-specific target: 35 Mbps recommended for AV1/HEVC or 50 Mbps for H.264. If the connection cannot reliably carry the selected quality, lower the output quality or bitrate to a level it can sustain, then test again.
YouTube reports a keyframe or encoding issue
Set CBR and a two-second keyframe interval, and verify that the encoder is applying the setting. Keep the interval at or below four seconds.

HDR is not being accepted as expected
Check that the stream uses H.265/HEVC and 10-bit depth for HDR. AV1 is not supported for HDR in YouTube’s cited guidance. For SDR instead, use Rec. 709 and 8-bit depth.
There is no low-latency option
This is expected at 4K/2160: YouTube sets these streams to normal latency.

Audio format or surround sound fails
Use AAC or MP3 and the recommended sample rate for the channel layout. If sending 5.1 over RTMP/RTMPS, use AAC; YouTube’s guidance does not list RTMP/RTMPS 5.1 support for MP3.
