You can send a continuous Indian folk music broadcast to YouTube through OBS, but clear the rights to every recording first and do not rely on YouTube to save a full 24-hour replay. YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. For a replay, use shorter scheduled streams under 12 hours and keep a local recording as backup.
Before you build a 24/7 music stream
Clear the music rights
“Folk” describes a musical tradition, not blanket permission to broadcast a track. A traditional composition, a modern arrangement, a particular recording, and a performer’s rendition may have different rights holders and permissions. Confirm that you have the rights needed for the actual music you plan to stream, in the territories where it will be available, and that permission covers both live use and any replay you intend to keep.
YouTube’s Livestream Terms and Conditions make the provider responsible for having all necessary rights for worldwide use on Google services, including music licensing rights and applicable territorial approvals. If you are using protected music, YouTube for Artists recommends coordinating with the label or distributor.
Check Content ID and allowlisting
A license does not necessarily prevent an interruption. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a match can trigger a warning, replace the stream with a placeholder, or interrupt or terminate the broadcast if the identified material remains. Ask the rights holder or its administrator whether your channel needs to be added to its Content ID allowlist, and keep written permission and any relevant documentation accessible. See YouTube’s live-streaming copyright guidance.

Enable live streaming ahead of time
If this is your first livestream, YouTube for Artists says to enable live streaming by verifying your account at least 24 hours before going live. Follow the current instructions in YouTube Studio rather than relying on older screenshots or interface directions. YouTube’s guidance is at YouTube for Artists.
Set up OBS to stream to YouTube
- Create the broadcast in YouTube: Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. Set its title, description, visibility, and other details there. An unlisted test stream is a prudent way to check the setup before launch.
- Connect OBS to YouTube: In the encoder connection instructions, select YouTube in OBS if it is offered, or use YouTube’s Live server URL. Copy the stream key from YouTube’s Live Control Room into OBS. Treat the key like an account credential: do not share it, publish it, or include it in screenshots.
- Configure the video and audio: Set OBS output to a resolution and bitrate your upload connection can sustain. Use the Auto-Configuration Wizard in OBS as a starting point, then check the resulting settings and monitor the connection. The right values depend on your upload capacity and the quality you intend to send; the available evidence does not establish one bitrate or resolution as right for every Indian folk stream.
- Prepare the music and visuals: Add only the rights-cleared music and the visuals you are authorized to use. Check that the audio plays at the intended level, the picture is correct, and the stream title and description accurately describe the broadcast.
- Start sending and inspect the preview: Start streaming from OBS, then check YouTube’s Live Control Room for the incoming preview and stream status. Make the broadcast public only when you are ready for viewers. Run an unlisted test in advance to catch problems with audio, visuals, or connection.
YouTube’s current encoder workflow is documented at Set up your encoder for live streaming. The OBS help portal explains how to use the Auto-Configuration Wizard and interpret dropped frames: OBS stream connection troubleshooting.

Choose a schedule that preserves replays
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream lasting longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. It recommends keeping a local archive backup. That makes a single 24-hour broadcast a poor choice if preserving a YouTube replay matters. YouTube’s archive guidance is at Create a YouTube live stream archive.
| Schedule | What it offers | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| One uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast | An always-on destination for viewers. | YouTube says streams over 12 hours may not be captured at all, and DVR may also be limited or unavailable after 12 hours. A complete replay is not assured. See YouTube’s archive guidance and DVR guidance. |
| Repeated shorter scheduled broadcasts | Better aligned with YouTube’s under-12-hour archive guidance; planned breaks also make it easier to check and restart the setup. | You must schedule and monitor each segment. The available YouTube documentation does not establish that recurring streams will hand viewers off seamlessly or guarantee an uninterrupted transition. |
If the archive matters, keep each scheduled segment under 12 hours rather than aiming exactly at the threshold, and record a local backup. YouTube’s stated threshold is guidance, not a promise that every shorter stream will be archived successfully. Its documentation does not establish a guaranteed seamless rollover between segments.

Why OBS may drop frames
OBS says an increasing “Dropped frames” counter, alongside a yellow or red connection indicator, can mean the connection to the server is unstable or cannot sustain the selected bitrate. Dropped frames are a connection symptom, not proof that the music file itself is faulty.
- Reduce the output demands: Use OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard as a baseline, then lower the selected bitrate or output settings if your connection cannot sustain them.
- Check the connection: Investigate network instability if the dropped-frame count keeps rising. A wired Ethernet connection is an option to consider, but it is not a guaranteed fix.
- Test before going public: Use an unlisted test to inspect the preview, audio, and stream status before the scheduled broadcast.
- Recheck after changes: Confirm the stream is reaching YouTube and that the status and preview look right after adjusting settings.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want the YouTube channel to stay live without leaving a computer running at home, StreamNeo is a cloud option for uploaded videos and playlists. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud keeps the loop running, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on.
