You can add bhajans without ending the YouTube broadcast if you keep OBS sending to YouTube and change the media source that supplies the video. OBS’s VLC Video Source can play a playlist, but its documentation does not guarantee that edits to a playlist during playback will apply seamlessly. Test your exact setup before relying on it for a continuous stream.
What “without restarting” means
There are two separate things running: the encoder connection from OBS to YouTube, and the media source playing bhajans inside OBS. Updating or switching the media source does not itself require ending the YouTube event. Stopping OBS’s encoder output or ending the event in YouTube Live Control Room does.
YouTube’s encoder instructions have you start the encoder, wait for the preview, then click Go live in Live Control Room. To end a broadcast, YouTube says to click End Stream and stop sending content from the encoder. Keep the encoder session running while you work on the media source if your goal is to keep the broadcast live. YouTube’s encoder setup and end-stream instructions
Set up a playlist in OBS
- Prepare the stream in YouTube Live Control Room. Create or select an encoder stream and use its stream URL and stream key in OBS. Start the encoder and confirm the preview appears before clicking Go live. Do not reset or replace the stream key as part of changing bhajans; YouTube documents key management separately from playlist playback. YouTube Live stream settings
- Choose the OBS scene carrying the live program. Add a media source or VLC Video Source to that scene. OBS’s Sources Guide explains how to add and arrange scene sources. OBS Sources Guide
- Use VLC Video Source for a playlist. OBS documents playlist support, loop and shuffle options for VLC Video Source, and the requirement to have VLC installed. Configure the playlist and playback options before going live. OBS Media Sources documentation
- Keep OBS output running while managing playback. Do not click End Stream in Live Control Room or stop streaming in OBS if you intend to preserve the current broadcast. Work on the media source instead.
Can you edit a VLC playlist while OBS is streaming?
Possibly, but do not assume a live edit will take effect cleanly. OBS’s official documentation describes VLC Video Source playlist controls; it does not promise seamless playlist changes mid-playback. An OBS community discussion reports inconsistent results when adding media to a running stream, so a particular operator’s success is not a reliable guarantee. - Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Before changing a playlist on a valuable 24/7 broadcast, test the precise combination you will use: OBS version, VLC version, operating system, playlist format, and the way you edit or reload it. Check whether the current bhajan continues, restarts, or is interrupted, and whether the next item plays as expected. Keep another known-good scene or playback source ready so you can recover if the change disrupts the program. These are precautions, not a guarantee that a particular playlist workflow will work.
Built-in VLC source or a third-party playlist source?
| Option | What is established | What to verify before relying on it |
|---|---|---|
| OBS VLC Video Source | OBS documents playlists, looping and shuffle; VLC must be installed. The documentation does not guarantee seamless live playlist edits. | Whether edits apply during playback, whether the current item restarts, and whether the workflow behaves reliably in your OBS/VLC/platform setup. |
| Media Playlist Source plugin | The third-party OBS forum listing advertises editing a playlist without restarting video. Media Playlist Source listing | Current plugin version and compatibility with your OBS version and operating system; playlist behavior and recovery after an OBS restart. The listing’s feature description is not a controlled comparison or guarantee for your setup. |
Neither option has a documented, dependable guarantee here for every live-edit case. Use a test broadcast or another low-risk test before changing the playlist on an important channel.

Will the YouTube live link stay the same?
Changing the OBS media source is not the same as ending the YouTube event: if you keep the encoder output and event running, you are changing what the source plays, not deliberately creating a new stream. YouTube’s documentation does not describe a YouTube-side editor for the active encoder’s bhajan playlist. Live Redirect is for sending viewers to another live stream or Premiere after the current stream ends, not for adding content to a program that remains live. YouTube’s live stream settings and Live Redirect information
Common problems and fixes
- The stream ends while you update the playlist: Check that OBS is still streaming and that you did not end the event in Live Control Room. YouTube treats stopping encoder content and ending the event as end-stream actions.
- The new bhajan does not appear: OBS’s documentation does not promise that a playlist edit will refresh seamlessly mid-playback. Test the exact editing and reload steps ahead of time; if necessary, use a tested source-switching workflow rather than assuming the edit was applied.
- The current bhajan restarts or playback is interrupted: Treat this as a possible outcome, not a reliable indication that every setup behaves the same. Test whether a scene or source switch is workable in your setup before using it on the main stream.
- The VLC source is unavailable: OBS lists VLC as a dependency for VLC Video Source. Install VLC, then verify the source in OBS before going live.
- A plugin option is incompatible or behaves differently than expected: Check the current plugin listing against your OBS version and operating system, then test its playlist edits and restart recovery before depending on it.
- You are looking for a YouTube playlist control: YouTube’s stream-settings documentation covers metadata, stream-key reset and Live Redirect; it does not document editing the active encoder’s media queue there.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is a YouTube channel that keeps looping uploaded bhajans without leaving a home computer on, StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded video rather than broadcasting from a camera.
