First determine whether the prerecorded video is lagging or freezing while the broadcast remains live, or whether the broadcast actually ends early. For lag and freezing, StreamYard’s specific guidance is to reduce a video bitrate above 10 MB/s, re-encode the file, and upload it again. For a true drop, separately check network stability: StreamYard’s network advice is general streaming guidance, not a guaranteed fix for prerecorded broadcasts.
Identify what is actually disconnecting
“Disconnecting” can describe different failures, and the right fix depends on which one you see. StreamYard’s prerecorded-stream guidance addresses upload trouble and lagging; its reviewed help pages do not give a dedicated diagnosis or guaranteed recovery sequence for every prerecorded broadcast that ends early.
- Video stutters or freezes, but the broadcast stays live: start by checking the source file’s bitrate and encoding.
- The broadcast ends before the video finishes: check the connection and collect details about the file, destination, and any error. A high-bitrate file is not established as the cause of every early end.
- The video finishes and then the broadcast ends: this is expected behavior for a scheduled prerecorded stream.
- The destination platform shows an error: note the exact message and which platform reported it; that may point to a destination-side issue rather than a problem with the source file.
Fix lag or freezing by optimizing the video file
StreamYard says prerecorded streaming supports a maximum video bitrate of 10 MB/s and that a higher-bitrate video should be reduced before upload to help prevent lagging and freezing. This is the most direct prerecorded-specific troubleshooting advice in its help material. StreamYard’s video optimization guide recommends HandBrake for re-encoding.
- Check the source video’s bitrate. If it exceeds 10 MB/s, re-encode it to reduce the bitrate before uploading.
- In HandBrake, choose MP4 as the output container.
- Enable Web Optimized and Align A/V Start.
- Export the converted video, then upload that new file to StreamYard and test the broadcast again.
These are StreamYard’s documented recommendations, not a guarantee that re-encoding will resolve a full broadcast disconnect. If the video was already within the bitrate guidance or the broadcast still ends early, continue with the separate connection checks below.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check file format, size, and plan limits
StreamYard’s Recommended Video Formats article lists MP4 and MOV as supported formats for video-library uploads and recommends H.264 video with AAC audio. Its prerecorded-stream guidance describes MP4 with H.264. The formats article lists maximum file sizes of 10 GB for Core and Advanced plans and 25 GB for Teams and Business plans; other limits may also vary by plan.
Because requirements and plans can change, check the current upload interface and your account’s plan before treating those listed limits as current for your situation. If an upload fails, verify the format and file size there before troubleshooting a live connection.

For a broadcast that truly drops, test network stability
StreamYard recommends at least 5 Mbps upload speed, with 7 Mbps or higher preferred, in its internet speed guidance. Its general Requirements article recommends at least 5 Mbps for both upload and download. These are general streaming recommendations; they do not prove that a particular prerecorded stream dropped because of bandwidth.
- Test your connection and consider packet loss and fluctuations, not just the headline speed-test result.
- Connect directly to your router with Ethernet if possible. StreamYard recommends a wired connection when available.
- Pause large downloads, backups, and other heavy network use; limit simultaneous activity on the connection while testing.
- Try the broadcast again. If the problem persists, restart the router and computer, close extra tabs and apps, or test another network or device. These are general connectivity checks, not a prerecorded-specific guaranteed fix.
Check whether the stream ended normally
A scheduled prerecorded broadcast starts at its selected time and ends after the video finishes, according to StreamYard’s prerecorded-stream guidance. StreamYard also says these broadcasts are no longer automatically saved to its library. A missing library copy alone does not show that the stream disconnected; check what the destination platform displayed and whether the video ran to completion.

If it still ends early, give support useful details
The reviewed StreamYard help material does not establish one universal cause or a dedicated recovery procedure for a full prerecorded-broadcast disconnect. If re-encoding and basic network checks do not help, assemble the details that distinguish a file issue from a connection or destination issue:
- Scheduled broadcast time and destination platform.
- Whether the video stopped, the broadcast ended, or only the destination reported an error.
- The source file’s format and bitrate, plus its size and plan.
- The exact error message, if one appeared.
- Whether you tested over Ethernet, another network, or another device.
Share those specifics with StreamYard support so they can assess the particular failure. The available help guidance does not promise a particular resolution.
