You can keep a YouTube channel live around the clock by sending a pre-recorded video feed from an encoder to a YouTube livestream. YouTube provides the stream page, server URL and stream key; your encoder or playout service must handle playback, playlist looping and recovery. YouTube’s documented auto-start and auto-stop controls are not a built-in file-looping feature.
What you need for a 24/7 pre-recorded livestream
The setup has two parts: YouTube Live Control Room creates and manages the livestream, while an encoder sends the video and audio feed. Choose encoding software, compatible hardware, or a managed playout service that can play your files or playlist continuously and recover from interruptions. YouTube’s encoder guidance explains how to connect a feed, but it does not endorse a particular looping product.
YouTube’s reviewed help pages do not establish that every continuous livestream made entirely from pre-recorded videos is permitted or prohibited as a format. The general livestream rules, rights obligations and channel monetization policies still apply; do not treat encoder instructions as specific approval for this format.
Check channel access and content rights first
Confirm livestream eligibility
YouTube’s live-streaming guidance says the channel must be verified, have no live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and the person streaming must be at least 16. Check the current requirements in YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance. An active restriction cannot be bypassed by streaming from another channel; see YouTube’s restriction-circumvention rules.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Clear every element in the stream
Make sure you have the necessary rights for all video, music and other material you broadcast. You remain responsible for applicable law and YouTube’s rules, including for content in an unattended stream. Review YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions before going live.
Create and connect the YouTube livestream
- Select a playout method. Choose encoding software, a hardware encoder or a managed service that can send your prepared feed to YouTube. Verify that it supports the playback schedule, playlist looping and recovery behavior you need; those functions are not established by YouTube’s generic encoder setup instructions.
- Open YouTube Studio and create or schedule a stream. In Live Control Room, create a livestream or schedule one. Scheduling can make an upcoming stream available for promotion and reminders. YouTube documents reuse of stream settings and keys, along with optional auto-start and auto-stop controls. For details, see Manage live stream settings.
- Copy the connection details. In the stream’s encoder settings, copy YouTube’s server URL and stream key into the corresponding stream settings in your encoder or playout system. Treat the key like a password: anyone with access to it may be able to connect an encoder to your stream.
- Start the prepared feed. Start playback and the encoder’s outgoing stream. YouTube creates the livestream watch page once it receives the feed. Confirm the preview and stream status in Live Control Room before relying on unattended playback. YouTube’s step-by-step guidance is at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Verify looping and recovery separately. Test what happens at the end of a file or playlist, after a scheduled transition, and if the encoder, service or connection stops. YouTube’s documented auto-start and auto-stop controls do not mean that YouTube loops the files or restarts a failed encoder.
YouTube says that all streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived. This is an archive rule, not a stated maximum stream duration. See the encoder setup guide.

Protect monetization eligibility and originality
Livestreaming a video does not itself establish eligibility for the YouTube Partner Program. YouTube’s channel-wide monetization policies distinguish inauthentic content—repetitive or mass-produced material—from reused content that repurposes material from YouTube or elsewhere without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value. Having created or obtained permission to use material does not by itself resolve the reused-content review.
On July 15, 2025, YouTube renamed its repetitious-content policy to “inauthentic content” and clarified that repetitive or mass-produced material is ineligible for monetization. Read the current YouTube channel monetization policies. Avoid assuming that putting videos you own into an uninterrupted stream is sufficient to qualify.

If a channel is eligible and monetization is enabled, YouTube documents livestream ads, Super Chat, Super Stickers and memberships as possible revenue options. Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve, and none of these options guarantees that a particular pre-recorded channel qualifies. See YouTube’s livestream monetization guidance.

Software encoding is an available route; YouTube recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production events, but that does not make dedicated hardware necessary for a basic pre-recorded channel. Before buying hardware or choosing a service, confirm YouTube output compatibility, file playback and looping, scheduling, stream-key handling, and what happens after an outage. YouTube’s general live-streaming tips cover encoder approaches, not product-by-product capabilities.

Troubleshoot common setup problems
- You cannot start a livestream: Check that the channel meets YouTube’s verification, restriction and age requirements, and review any restriction notice in Studio.
- YouTube does not receive the encoder feed: Recheck that you copied the server URL and stream key for the intended stream and placed them in the encoder’s stream settings. Keep the key private.
- The stream stops at the end of a video: Confirm that your encoder or playout service is configured to repeat the file or playlist. YouTube’s auto-start and auto-stop settings do not provide file looping.
- The stream fails to resume after an outage: Check the encoder or service’s recovery behavior and test a disconnect before relying on unattended operation. The reviewed YouTube guidance does not promise automatic restart after encoder or network failure.
- Content is claimed, interrupted or unsuitable for monetization: Recheck rights for every video and audio element, then review the livestream terms and channel monetization policies. Rights clearance alone does not ensure reused-content monetization eligibility.
