How to Add a Church Logo to a Continuous YouTube Sermon Stream

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Add the logo in your encoder, not as a YouTube Studio channel watermark: in OBS, add a transparent logo file as an Image source, size and position it in the scene preview, and include that source in every scene where it should appear. Then connect OBS to the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio. For a genuinely continuous channel, plan separately for encoder uptime, network interruptions, stream restarts, and archives; YouTube’s archive guidance is not a promise of an indefinite broadcast.

What you need before adding the logo

  • A logo image file. A transparent-background image is usually best for an overlay because it avoids placing an opaque rectangle over the sermon picture. The cited OBS walkthrough recommends transparency but does not establish universal dimensions or a file-size limit.
  • OBS installed and a scene set up for the sermon. OBS labels can vary between versions, so treat the names below as the general workflow rather than a version-specific screen guarantee.
  • A YouTube live stream set up in YouTube Studio, with its server URL and stream key available. Keep the key private: anyone with access to it may be able to send video to your stream.

Add the logo in OBS

  1. Select the scene. In OBS, choose the sermon scene in which the logo should appear.
  2. Add an Image source. In the Sources list, select the plus control, choose Image, give the source a recognizable name, browse to the logo file, and confirm. The OBS walkthrough describes this image-source workflow and cropping as needed: OBS: Adding logo and graphics.
  3. Size and position it. Adjust the image in the preview. Place it where it does not cover the preacher, lyrics, scripture, or other important content. There is no fixed position or safe-area measurement established here; check the result in the actual program preview.
  4. Crop only if needed. If the image includes unwanted margins, crop it in OBS as appropriate. Preserve enough of the logo to keep it legible.
  5. Check every scene. A source added to one scene does not automatically mean it appears in all scenes. Add the logo to each relevant scene, and check any scene changes used during the service. Different scenes may use different logos.

Connect OBS to YouTube

  1. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select the stream.
  2. Copy the YouTube Live server URL and stream key into OBS’s stream settings. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance says to enter the server URL and stream key in the encoder: Set up your encoder for live streaming.
  3. Start the encoder from OBS. For a scheduled YouTube stream, wait for the preview in Live Control Room, check that the logo and program picture look right, and then select Go live.
  4. Before the service, verify the logo in each scene you expect to use, and make sure it does not obscure faces or on-screen text.

Choose the setup that fits your production

Route Best suited to Trade-off
OBS Image source A church already using a computer-based OBS production. You must configure each relevant scene and keep the logo file available to the computer running OBS. The cited walkthrough does not specify universal image dimensions.
Hardware encoder such as AJA HELO Plus A production seeking a dedicated encoder with built-in graphics controls. It requires separate hardware purchase and setup. YouTube lists the AJA HELO Plus as an encoder with built-in logo graphics, but it is not necessary for a basic OBS overlay; current price and availability are not established.

What continuous means for YouTube archives

YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That guidance does not establish how to operate an indefinite 24/7 loop, nor does it guarantee that a longer broadcast will remain uninterrupted or be archived in the same way. A church planning a continuous stream should separately account for encoder uptime, its internet connection, recovery or restart procedures, and how it wants to handle archives.

Or let it run in the cloud

For a YouTube channel that should keep playing uploaded sermon recordings without leaving a church computer running, StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add the YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos; it is not a live camera encoder or a logo-overlay editor, so prepare the finished video with its church branding before uploading.
