Yes. A 24/7 YouTube stream can earn revenue if its channel is eligible for the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), monetization is enabled for the stream, and the creator has accepted the Watch Page Monetization Module. An ad blocker may stop ads from appearing for the viewer using it, but YouTube’s published guidance does not say that ad blockers disqualify an otherwise eligible channel. Neither continuous streaming nor monetization settings guarantee revenue from every view.
What an ad blocker changes—and what it doesn’t
YouTube says viewers using ad-blocking software or browser extensions may not see ads. That can reduce ad opportunities in affected viewing sessions. It does not, on the evidence YouTube publishes, automatically remove a creator’s eligibility to earn from other eligible views.
Ad delivery and creator eligibility are separate. YouTube may show ads on content even when its creator is not eligible to receive a revenue share. Seeing an ad—or seeing none—does not establish whether a channel earned from that view. YouTube also says live-stream ad slots are not guaranteed to serve ads; if an ad does not run, the viewer can continue watching.
YouTube does not publish a blocker-specific revenue-loss percentage, or report how many viewers of a particular stream use blockers. Do not treat a change in a stream’s earnings as proof that ad blockers caused it.

What a creator needs to earn from a live stream
- YPP eligibility: The channel must qualify for the YouTube Partner Program and comply with its terms and monetization policies. A stream’s duration or uninterrupted availability does not create eligibility. See YouTube’s YPP overview.
- Watch Page monetization: To receive Watch Page ad and YouTube Premium revenue, the creator must accept the Watch Page Monetization Module. See YouTube’s overview of monetization modules.
- Stream monetization: Enable monetization for the live stream and choose the available ad controls. YouTube’s systems determine whether each potential ad slot actually serves.
- Policy-compliant content and traffic: Monetization policies apply to live streams as well as other formats. Copyright and other rights, originality, advertiser suitability, YPP terms, and valid traffic matter. Invalid traffic may result in adjusted earnings, limited ads, payment delays, or loss of monetization. Do not ask viewers to click ads or use traffic-boosting schemes. See YouTube’s channel monetization policies and its invalid-traffic guidance.
Choose how to manage live-stream ad breaks
YouTube offers automatic, scheduled, and manual mid-roll options. These controls create possible ad opportunities, not promises about when ads will appear or how much a stream will earn. Check the current Live Control Room options for the channel.
| Option | What the creator controls | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| Automatic mid-rolls | YouTube automatically places potential mid-roll opportunities. YouTube describes this as its recommended option. | The system still decides whether a slot serves. YouTube reports that creators who chose live automatic mid-rolls saw, on average, over 20% uplift in in-stream ad revenue per hour. That January 2024 platform-reported comparison averaged channels that enabled the feature against channels that did not across 207 countries. It is not a guarantee, an estimate of blocker losses, or proof that the feature caused the difference. |
| Scheduled breaks | Set potential breaks at 6, 12, 18, 24, or 30 minute intervals. | An interval sets opportunities, not a fixed ad cadence or guaranteed delivery. |
| Manual breaks | Insert a potential break when you choose. | Viewers may receive ads at different times, and a slot may not serve. Consider the interruption before placing a break during an important moment. |
YouTube also describes a Live Control Room delay feature for automatic mid-rolls during important moments. These controls affect potential ad placement; they cannot make ads appear to viewers whose blockers prevent delivery. Read YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance for current controls and details.

How to check what the stream earns
- Open YouTube Analytics for the channel and review revenue for the relevant period.
- Use the Live filter to examine live-stream and live-replay ad revenue, where available.
- Compare periods carefully, accounting for differences in viewing, content, monetization settings, and other factors. Analytics does not identify ad-blocker-attributed losses in the reviewed reporting.
Do not treat RPM and playback-based CPM as interchangeable. YouTube describes RPM as a creator-focused measure of total revenue after revenue share across its listed sources. Playback-based CPM is an advertiser-focused measure related to monetized playbacks and advertiser spend before revenue share. Neither, as described in YouTube’s documentation, isolates the effect of ad blockers. See YouTube’s Analytics revenue metrics explanation.
Other eligible ways a channel may earn
Depending on eligibility and feature terms, YPP may provide revenue routes beyond ads, including YouTube Premium revenue, channel memberships, Super Chat and Super Stickers, Super Thanks, and Shopping. These are possible channel-level options, not evidence that a viewer using an ad blocker generated revenue through another route. See YouTube’s monetization modules overview and its guide to earning on YouTube.
