How to Run Prerecorded Videos on a YouTube Live Stream from an Indian Cloud Server

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You can broadcast a prerecorded video as a YouTube live stream by running FFmpeg on a cloud virtual machine (VM), feeding it the video at real-time speed, and sending the encoded output to the stream URL and key for a YouTube Live event. The workflow is: confirm channel eligibility, create the event, prepare a VM and video file, start the encoder, then check the preview and stream health in YouTube Live Control Room.

What you need before you start

  • A YouTube channel eligible to livestream: YouTube says it must be verified, with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days; its eligibility page also sets a minimum age of 16 for live streaming. Check the current requirements at YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility page.
  • A prerecorded video file accessible to the VM, either stored on it or transferred there from another location.
  • A cloud VM with enough sustained CPU capacity to encode your chosen output and reliable outbound bandwidth for the stream. No particular VM size or price is established here: test the exact file and settings on the candidate machine and check current network and data-transfer charges.
  • An FFmpeg build that supports the encoder and RTMPS transport you plan to use.
  • A stream URL and stream key from the YouTube Live Control Room. Treat the key as a password; do not put a real key in a public script or share it.

Indian cloud regions include AWS Asia Pacific (Mumbai), ap-south-1, and Google Cloud Mumbai, asia-south1. These region names do not guarantee that a particular VM type is available or suitable. Check the current capacity, instance family, network limits, storage location, and charges for the exact configuration. Google Cloud’s location guide discusses latency, cost, resiliency, and proximity of storage and processing in the context of its managed Live Stream API; for an ordinary VM, treat proximity as a useful consideration, not a requirement. See AWS regional endpoints and Google Cloud Live Stream API locations.

Create the YouTube Live event and get its stream details

  1. Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to enter Live Control Room. Configure a new stream or select the appropriate existing stream and event.
  2. In the stream settings, copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream. YouTube explains these settings at Set up your encoder for live streaming.
  3. Keep the key private. Use a protected environment variable or secrets/configuration mechanism on the VM rather than committing it to source control, placing it in a public script, or posting it in logs or support messages.
  4. For a typical RTMP-style encoder workflow, evaluate RTMPS. YouTube documents encrypted RTMP over SSL on port 443. Use the exact valid ingestion server and application path YouTube provides for your stream; do not guess or substitute an endpoint from another service. See YouTube’s RTMPS ingestion guide.

YouTube also accepts HLS and DASH ingestion, but those protocols have different format requirements and trade-offs. Its comparison describes RTMP/RTMPS as suitable for normal, low, or ultra-low latency and HLS/DASH as encrypted options with other codec choices that are generally more appropriate for high-resolution use and often involve higher latency. Choose a protocol only when your encoder configuration matches YouTube’s instructions for it: YouTube ingestion protocol comparison.

Prepare the video and choose encoder settings

YouTube’s encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265, and AV1 in its general settings information, frame rates up to 60 fps, CBR (constant bitrate), AAC or MP3 audio, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. Codec support depends on the selected ingestion protocol, so do not assume every codec in the general guidance works with every protocol. Check YouTube’s current live encoder settings and select a profile compatible with both the protocol and the video.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  • Resolution and frame rate: Match the output to the source and the profile you intend to send. A higher output setting does not add detail absent from the recording, and it increases the bitrate and encoding demands.
  • Bitrate: Choose a bitrate appropriate to the output resolution and frame rate, then verify the VM can sustain that upload rate. YouTube advises choosing quality based on reliable upload bitrate and testing the stream; use its current settings page for the relevant profile rather than assuming one bitrate fits all videos.
  • Keyframes: Set a two-second interval where possible and do not exceed four seconds, in line with YouTube’s recommendation.
  • Rate control and audio: Use CBR and an accepted audio codec such as AAC or MP3 for the selected protocol/profile. Confirm the file’s audio is present and at a suitable level before going live.
  • Input compatibility: Check that FFmpeg can decode the source and encode the selected video and audio formats. If the file has an unusual pixel format, frame rate, or audio layout, configure conversion deliberately and test it rather than assuming a direct copy will work.

Run FFmpeg on the Indian cloud VM

  1. Provision a VM in the Indian region you selected, and install or verify an FFmpeg build with the required encoders and RTMPS support.
  2. Place the media file on the VM or fetch it from storage. Confirm the file path and that the VM has enough disk space if you are storing it locally.
  3. Run the encoder at real-time pace and loop the file if the broadcast should repeat. The following is an illustrative command shape, not a tested provider-specific recipe. Replace the placeholders only with the stream-specific values from YouTube and validate the output settings against YouTube’s current requirements.
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i /path/to/video.mp4
  -c:v libx264 -c:a aac -f flv
  'rtmps://YOUTUBE_INGEST_HOST/YOUTUBE_APP/YOUTUBE_STREAM_KEY'

-re reads the input at approximately real-time pace; -stream_loop -1 repeats the input indefinitely. The example uses H.264 video and AAC audio in an FLV output container. It does not set resolution, frame rate, bitrate, keyframe interval, or pixel format because those depend on the source and chosen YouTube profile; add suitable options and confirm YouTube’s health indicators accept the resulting stream.

The destination format above illustrates how an RTMPS URL and stream key may be combined for an encoder. YouTube’s endpoint and application path are stream-specific, so use its actual values and follow the encoder’s expected URL format. Do not copy an Amazon IVS endpoint into this command: AWS’s recorded-video FFmpeg example uses an IVS destination, not YouTube. It is useful only as an example of the real-time and looping flags; see AWS’s Amazon IVS streaming example.

Start, preview, and monitor the broadcast

  1. Start FFmpeg and check its output for connection errors, encoder failures, or repeated input warnings.
  2. Wait for the incoming signal to appear in YouTube Live Control Room. Review the preview and stream-health indicators before making the event public; use a private or unlisted test first when practical.
  3. Check audio and video quality during the stream, not only at startup. Watch for freezes, missing audio, dropped connection, or health warnings that point to bitrate, keyframe, codec, or format problems.
  4. If the broadcast matters, define how you will recover from a VM, network, or encoder failure. YouTube’s operations guidance recommends preparing streams ahead of time, checking preview, testing failover where applicable, and monitoring audio/video quality: YouTube live-streaming tips.

Copyright, reused content, and prerecorded programming

A video being prerecorded does not make its use automatically permissible. Before streaming, make sure you have the rights or licenses needed for the footage, music, narration, and any other material in the file, including permission for live-stream use where applicable. A livestream can be subject to copyright enforcement just as other YouTube uploads can. Do not assume that crediting a creator, using a short excerpt, or labeling a stream as a documentary grants permission.

Also distinguish the right to use material from eligibility for monetization. Repeatedly looping existing footage does not by itself establish that a channel meets YouTube’s monetization standards. Review YouTube’s current policies and the status shown for your channel before relying on revenue from a stream. Keep permission records and review a video for music or clips you do not control before sending it live.

Troubleshooting common problems

RTMPS will not connect

Confirm that the URL uses the rtmps scheme, the host and application path match the stream’s YouTube ingestion details, and the connection uses port 443. Check that the stream key is current and copied without added spaces, and that the VM can make outbound connections. YouTube identifies an incorrect host, port, or SSL setup among possible connection-error causes in its RTMPS requirements.

YouTube reports encoder or stream-health issues

Compare the actual outgoing stream with the selected YouTube profile: keyframe interval, CBR, codecs, bitrate, resolution, frame rate, audio, and output format. Use the Live Control Room preview and health messages to identify the failing setting, then change one relevant setting and test again. Refer to YouTube’s encoder settings.

  • Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft

The picture stops when the video ends

Check whether the input reached its end and whether looping was intended. For a file that should repeat continuously, verify that -stream_loop -1 is applied before the input option in the FFmpeg command and that the input is readable. AWS’s IVS example demonstrates this loop flag, though its destination is not YouTube.

The stream is unstable despite using a Mumbai region

A region label does not guarantee adequate VM capacity, outbound throughput, or a particular viewer latency. Test the exact machine, file, and settings under sustained operation, monitor CPU and network use, and check current compute, storage, and data-transfer costs. If the source file is remote, include transfer time and storage proximity in the plan.

Costs and operating trade-offs

A self-managed cloud stream combines VM charges with any applicable storage and outbound data-transfer charges. The exact total depends on the selected provider, machine, region, duration, media location, and current pricing; no specific VM size or provider cost is established here. Include setup time and the work of monitoring, restarting FFmpeg, protecting the key, and recovering from failures when comparing it with a managed service.

Or let it run in the cloud

If the goal is a continuous prerecorded YouTube stream rather than managing a VM and encoder, StreamNeo is a cloud service for uploaded videos and playlists. Upload the recording, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The cloud keeps it running without a computer or home connection staying on; it supports uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Start the free day with StreamNeo.
