Estimate ad revenue from your own stream’s YouTube Analytics—not from a generic CPM calculator. If you know estimated monetized playbacks and your creator revenue per 1,000 monetized playbacks, use: estimated ad revenue = (estimated monetized playbacks ÷ 1,000) × creator revenue per 1,000 monetized playbacks. Alternatively, use total views only when you have an ad-only revenue-per-1,000-total-views figure. Build low, typical, and high scenarios from comparable periods; an always-on schedule does not guarantee a fixed income.
Choose the right YouTube Analytics data
Start with the specific live stream’s data in YouTube Analytics. Use the Live filter and the live-stream revenue breakdown to isolate the stream and time period you want to estimate. YouTube says Analytics can show ad revenue from live streams and their replays. For an ads-only projection, use Estimated ad revenue or an ad-specific report from Revenue sources; do not substitute a broad total-revenue figure without separating its components. YouTube’s guide to understanding ad revenue analytics explains its revenue metrics, and its live-stream monetization guide covers live reporting.
Keep the revenue category consistent
Estimated ad revenue is the ads-only measure. Total estimated revenue may also include YouTube Premium and fan-funding sources such as memberships, Super Chat, and Super Stickers. Sponsorships and other income outside YouTube are separate again. If your question is specifically how much advertising earned, calculate from ad revenue rather than total creator revenue.
Match the denominator to the rate
A view, a monetized playback, and an ad impression are different measures. YouTube defines CPM as advertiser cost per 1,000 ad impressions, and playback-based CPM as advertiser cost per 1,000 playbacks on which an ad was shown. These are advertiser-side figures, before the creator’s share. RPM is creator-focused and is after revenue share, but the default RPM can include revenue sources beyond ads and uses all views, including views that did not monetize. Use a rate whose denominator and revenue scope match the quantity in your formula.

- Monetized-playback basis: estimated ad revenue = (estimated monetized playbacks ÷ 1,000) × creator ad revenue per 1,000 monetized playbacks.
- Total-view basis: estimated ad revenue = (total views ÷ 1,000) × ad-only revenue per 1,000 total views.
The second rate must be ad-only. Do not multiply total views by CPM as if every view produced an ad impression or earned the advertiser-side CPM. This matching rule follows from YouTube’s separate definitions of views, monetized playbacks, ad impressions, CPM, and RPM.
Build a low, typical, and high estimate
Choose several comparable periods from the same stream, or from streams with a similar audience and setup. For each period, record the ad-only revenue, the matching denominator, and the resulting creator yield per 1,000 units of that denominator. Use a lower, typical, and higher observed yield as planning scenarios rather than presenting one number as certain.

- Set the period. Select a consistent span—such as a week or month—and keep the stream and Live filter selection the same when comparing periods.
- Record matching inputs. Capture estimated ad revenue and monetized playbacks, or estimated ad revenue and total views. Do not mix periods or combine one denominator with a rate calculated from another.
- Calculate each period’s yield. Divide ad-only revenue by the matching playback count, then multiply by 1,000.
- Choose scenarios from the history. Use a lower observed yield for the low case, a representative yield for the typical case, and a higher observed yield for the high case. Apply each to the projected matching playback count or total views.
- State the assumption. Explain that the estimate assumes a similar audience and ad-serving mix, and name the historical period used.
Where the data supports it, compare periods with similar viewer geography, content, streaming hours, ad settings, and season. A change in any of these can change the result, so refresh the scenarios as the stream’s audience and history develop. YouTube does not publish a universal typical CPM or RPM for always-on streams in the documentation cited here.
If the stream is new
Without channel-specific performance history, there is no reliable personalized yield to apply. You can model hypothetical low, typical, and high inputs, but label them as assumptions rather than a forecast or a YouTube-wide rate. YouTube says earnings are not guaranteed; its partner earnings overview explains this directly.

Understand why always-on ad revenue varies
Being live continuously increases the opportunity for viewers to watch; it does not mean every view is monetized or that ads will fill every opportunity. YouTube identifies ad availability, advertiser friendliness, viewer targeting, geography, Premium status, and recent ad exposure among the reasons a view may not show an ad. Consequently, two periods with similar total views can produce different monetized playbacks and ad revenue.
Live ad slots may not serve
YouTube’s live-stream guide states: “Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve ads.” Monetized live streams can use pre-roll and display ads, as well as mid-rolls. The number of breaks you enable is not the same as the number of ads viewers actually receive, so estimate from delivered historical revenue rather than counting planned slots.

Mid-roll choices affect opportunities, not certainty
YouTube describes automatic mid-rolls, scheduled breaks at 6-, 12-, 18-, 24-, or 30-minute intervals, and manual insertion. Automatic frequency can be set to low, medium, or high. With manual insertion, no mid-rolls are served if you do not insert breaks. These settings provide different levels of control and potential interruption; none guarantees that an ad will serve.
YouTube reports that creators who chose live automatic mid-roll ads saw, on average, over 20% uplift in instream ad revenue per hour compared with channels that had not turned them on. This platform-published comparison was averaged across 207 countries in January 2024. It is not an independent causal estimate or a promise of the result for an individual stream.

Check monetization eligibility before projecting income
A revenue estimate only makes sense if the channel and stream can earn the revenue being modeled. YouTube says a channel must be in the YouTube Partner Program and have the relevant monetization enabled. To earn Watch Page ad revenue on long-form or live content, the channel must accept the Watch Page Monetization Module. Check your applicable agreement and settings in YouTube Studio; YouTube’s monetization options guide describes the available modules.
YouTube’s partner earnings overview states that the Watch Page Monetization Module pays creators 55% of net revenue from ads displayed or streamed on public videos on the Watch Page. Treat that as YouTube’s stated standard module term, not a substitute for checking the terms applicable to your account.
