To keep a YouTube broadcast running from a Windows cloud PC, run a streaming encoder on that PC, connect it to a YouTube Live stream with the server URL and stream key from YouTube Studio, then monitor the Live Control Room for a clean signal. The setup can run without your home computer, but unattended 24/7 operation also depends on the cloud PC provider’s runtime, network and recovery behavior.
Before you set up the stream
- Your YouTube channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16. First-time live-streaming activation can take up to 24 hours. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and setup guidance.
- Choose a Windows cloud PC with enough encoding capacity for your intended resolution and frame rate, and verify its current policies for unattended runtime, disconnects, reboots, outbound streaming connections and any GPU requirements. These details vary by provider.
- Decide how you will handle stream restarts and recordings. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not rely on one uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast being archived in full. Plan separate recording or segmentation if you need a complete record.
Connect the Windows cloud PC to YouTube Live
- Enable live streaming. Verify the channel and enable live streaming if it is not already active. Allow up to 24 hours for initial activation.
- Create or select a stream. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create a stream or select the one you intend to use. Copy the server URL and stream key shown there.
- Protect the stream key. Enter it only in the encoder’s streaming settings. Treat it like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your stream. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Set up the encoder. Install and configure a Windows-compatible encoder on the cloud PC. Enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key, choose RTMPS where supported, and set the video and audio parameters described below.
- Test before relying on it. Start the encoder and check the preview and stream health in the Live Control Room. Test with representative motion and audio, fix warnings or errors, and only then leave the setup unattended.
YouTube Help recommends RTMPS, a secure extension to RTMP. Google’s developer documentation describes RTMPS as RTMP over SSL and specifies a valid RTMPS endpoint and port 443. Use the endpoint YouTube provides for your stream rather than substituting an address from another service. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions and the YouTube Live ingestion protocol guide.
Choose encoder settings the connection can sustain
YouTube’s current encoder guidance supports RTMP/RTMPS, H.264, H.265/HEVC or AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate encoding and frame rates up to 60 fps. These are YouTube ingestion recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular cloud PC provider can deliver a stable signal at those settings. Test the actual cloud PC’s upload path and leave capacity in reserve rather than choosing settings at the limit.

The bitrate figures are YouTube’s published ingestion settings, accessed October 3, 2026. They are not measured cloud-PC performance. If the stream health shows bitrate instability or ingestion starvation, reduce the output bitrate or resolution and test again. Full current guidance is on YouTube’s encoder settings page.

Keep the broadcast unattended
A working encoder connection is only one part of a continuous stream. Before leaving it alone, check that the cloud PC plan permits long-running sessions, that logging out or disconnecting your remote desktop will not stop the session, and that a reboot or brief network outage has a recovery plan. Confirm that the machine can reach YouTube’s ingest endpoint over the required outbound connection. The exact Windows session and recovery settings depend on the cloud PC provider and encoder; verify them in that provider’s current documentation.
YouTube’s live guidance currently states a limit of 10 active streams per channel and three active streams per stream key. If you need a continuous schedule rather than one long broadcast, plan how you will stop and restart streams, manage keys, and create any needed recordings. An archive of a stream under 12 hours does not replace a recording plan for a longer broadcast.

Diagnose common stream problems
Use the Live Control Room’s stream health and messages to identify whether the problem is the encoder configuration or the signal reaching YouTube. Google’s LiveStreams API documents health states and configuration diagnostics; examples include codec, bitrate, keyframe and ingestion problems.
